I've never heard of this before I watched the original video. I could see it as incredibly hard to get someone to manufacture that product at a reasonable price and to fit tolerances. That's probably the biggest hurdle.

I bought two steel bowls from him 1 year ago on eBay. I had to wait 2,5 months but it seems I was one of the lucky ones that actually received his order. Everyone else who made these sticks struggled to offer them consistently.

ngl I dont understand why he didn't just make them in advance and then list them for sale. Would avoid the whole problem with terrible wait times. Steel stick makers need to stop with this made to order shit if they can't guarantee a timeframe.

outsourcing and upfront costs are high, which is why a lot of the stick makers do preorders. The upfront cost to set this up is fairly high for a niche product like this. Just because it's a preorder doesn't mean it's "made to order" but just funding the ability to make them in the first place. I don't disagree with your general idea but the upfront financial risk is why people keep doing this

Because it's not really that simple. Niche parts like this, especially those manufactured from steel, are not cheap to produce. If he gets a load made in advance that's capital he has to have and spend upfront. If those products then don't sell for whatever reason he is screwed. He's not some company that afford to incur costs upfront and recover from the losses if it doesn't pan out. The preorders essentially allow him to fund the manufacturing process while also giving him a rough idea of sales figures so he doesn't overproduce more than he can actually sell. This is pretty much standard procedure for niche products like this from independent sellers. As far as "guaranteeing a timeframe" goes, also much easier said than done. When your outsourcing your manufacturing to a factory like that you're basically operating on their schedule. If the factory can't give him a timeframe then he can't give you one. The factory might have a lot of jobs to fulfil, they might have issues setting them back and temporarily halting production, they might produce a batch that doesn't meet the specs so they have to start over again. Also the factory itself probably relies on their own suppliers who operate on their own schedules and have their own potential problems too. Again, it's not like this guy is a big company who has corporate wealth and weight to throw around.

Biinny also was critical about things like how much better his stream would look than any other SM64 streamer. It's not a stretch to see him be defensive of any other criticism. Crazy how people are willing to put up with terrible service when they're a captive audience.

Why not just make limited runs for the product. Sure preorders can fund the product and production, but if the demand is extremely high, without a functional production line you can't meet that demand.

Those people are insanely backwards in their thinking. You are lucky to get offered a refund in a situation like that. Learn how engineering feats work That’s literally an ambitious project/idea a steel stick controller. That’s a project/product you would EXPECT to break or have some weird phenomenons in like the 5 clicks off thing or whatever I understand he’s part of the community or whatever doing his thing with y’all or whatever but like hello use your common sense and buyer beware Situations like this is more of a seller/consumer/community all rolling the dice together type of thing if you can figure out how to wrap your mind around a notion like that Sort of like a 50/50 it it will be a great product or completely fail. You said your self in the video many projects like that started and stopped suddenly it’s because what I just explained The fact that he tried his best to give all the money back should be case closed in my opinion
