Henri Toivonen was actually leading the rally about 4 minutes which was a lot at that time, also he was in high FEVER when he was driving that last stage, right before he started the stage, he was asked how is it going atm... Henri answered that these cars are way too fast that your brains cannot keep up with it, also as he was sick it might had something to do with the accident too... its so sad, he was young and one of the best drivers on planet, actually he was getting better and better all the time... also he was not very happy to work for Lancia as driver because they insisted henri to drive or he would be kicked from the team, which was his WORK, he was sometimes driving because he had to and not that he wanted to. he sent most the money he got to his home and family, he had kids and like that... and why he didnt like to drive in lancia was partly also because it was so dangerous, there is rumors that at some point lancia replaced the rollcages with fake-cardboard-rollcages to get less weight on the car...

I liked that you gained some perspective about Group B! Another thing about the Lancia Delta S4 was that the car was very hot inside. The twin chargers heated up the inside of the car, so you can imagine driving this competitively in a hot country, ooof… Henri is an absolute legend. Top skilled driver.

Group B had no regulations on boost, meaning any car with forced induction to hit the stage could be boosting whatever the team felt like and what the engine could handle. To this day the most powerful rally car to run a stage of the WRC remains the quattro S1 E2, claiming just shy of 600hp. Who knows if they pushed beyond those official numbers. The 205 T16, Delta S4 and RS200 were also capable of eye-watering power, all known tho have run "official" 550hp. In the end is common knowledge in the Group B sphere that all turbo 4WD cars were making around 600hp on stage if conditions were right, it was the wild West of racing. Nowadays boost is heavily regulated, with FIA mandated restrictors and specs. The Celica GT-Four ST205 may be the best known case of cheating boost regulations. Toyota Team Europe was removed from the 1995 season and banned from taking part in the championship the following year. Other disciplines also have their oopsies with boost. Nissan had a "problem" with some cheeky wastegates on their LeMans car, helping it reach some absurd ~380kph down the Mulsanne straight (even after the chicanes). Wastegates had "without explanation" failed and shut close, making the engine output ~1100hp for the qualy lap, before grenading itself over the inmense excess boost. They managed several seconds off 2nd position. Just funny coincidences.

Group B cars are very hard to drive you can try this out in games like dirt rally 2.0 if you have wheel/pedal set acceleration is just too much to do anything useful.

It easy , remove back seat , take ove luggage to empty , choice 5-6 speed manual gearbox car where is gear ratio mani 3,22 :1 ; first 2,91 :1 , second 2,44 :1 ; trhid 1,78 :1 , forth 1,22:1 ; fifth gear 0,89 ;1 . and coupe , best is empty weight 960 until 1050 kg Use gear chanfge at 10 % at red RPM -s and if test drive get 1 st gear 30 , second 65 ; trhid 90 km/h and forth 125 km/h then it is RIGHT car. Yes no older then 12 Year and what ess electronics adds that better. to ride on gravel roads
