Most people don't realize this but, the Romanian language is a Romance language in the same family as Italian, Portuguese, and Spanish. It's unusual because Romania is surrounded by nations who speak Slavic languages. Romania is also thought of as an Eastern European nation and few people would think it has linguistic ties to Latin. That could help explain why Italians are the largest immigrant group in Romania.

Probably yeah, but I wouldn't call it idiotic. with the amount of money the US spends on its military, and how it's been used after WW2, makes sense for most countries to worry about it. Unless you're speaking on so many believing Iran to be a threat to world peace, then I'd agree that's pretty idiotic to think now.

When I joined the US army I was put in to a class to test my language ability because I had a very high test score (ASVAB), basically said I could maybe learn Latin based languages. My wife (who I met in the military) eventually became a linguist in Arabic. I’m no linguist, I’m good at math. Makes me smirk/laugh to this day that they even checked to see if I was good at linguistics. I could’ve told you no if you asked, but whatever.

15:52 No, it's not about how many languages each person speak, but how likely two people picked at random will have different mother tongues. So you speaking English and a German neighbor of yours also speaking English but his native language is German, increasing the diversity in your country. Or if any Irish people speak their Celtic language as their mother tongue then they're increasing the diversity. And if two people only know a single language each, but it's different languages it's still increasing the diversity.
