If you legalize drugs you can regulate it. I imagine a lot of overdoses happened because the drugs were never a set 'strength' or dealers would use additives that were dangerous.
@leonbrumett6155
@leonbrumett6155 3 жыл бұрын
Legalizing drugs causes addicts to feel like there is no punishment for their actions and would cause children and younger adults to experiment more. Legalizing drugs is only a bad thing, if you are a dealer you deserve to go to prison and if you are a user you might need to too.
@rhiahlMT
@rhiahlMT 3 жыл бұрын
@@leonbrumett6155 Well, I don't go to Washington state or Oregon any longer. They will jump all over you for lighting a cigarette there around a corner away from everyone, but if I take my kids and try to walk down the street I have to take them through plumes of smoke. They just passed recreational marijuana here. I voted against it more because it gives the car insurance people another reason to hike the rates. We have the worst drunk driving rates per capita than any other other state. I have no quarrel with taking the dealers out of the equation though.
@vktor5730
@vktor5730 3 жыл бұрын
@@leonbrumett6155 Thats absolute nonsense, legalizing drugs has led to a decrease in addicts. Turns out that treating drug addicts as criminals that cant be changed and “need” to go to prison instead of providing them with care to help them actually encourages continued use/addiction because they have no other options, who knew. Also, legalization leads to more regulated and overall safer drugs that are administered by hospitals, drug stores, etc. reducing drug dealers sphere of influence. No policy is 100% perfect, but to say its “only bad” is being a bit close-minded.

Sinking is a problem a lot of big cities have. Big cities tend to get built along major rivers, but the land along major rivers is often marshy swampland, so cities often get built on marshy swampland. Not exactly the most stable foundation. Some cities are also built in places where the crust is still slowly deforming after the glaciers receded at the end of the ice age, like London, leading to either sinking or raising.

If you are a dealer then your ass is grass. Portugal Treats the users and punishes the dealers. And yeah it kills when people confuse legalization and decriminalization, It blows my mind that I see so many people on Reddit that actually believe that any county would permit the recreational sale of coke, heroin and meth lol Portugal wouldn’t have much of a country if that were the case.

decriminalization isnt the same as legalization, i believe the positive effects mostly have to do with no longer treating drug addiction as a criminal offense and maybe more as a medical issue ? the state of oregon in the united states has recently also decriminalized drug use i believe!! i hope the effects also turn out positive. it’s pretty upsetting to see those with drug addictions being thrown into prison rather than receiving rehab or other proper help for their addictions

Yes, decriminalizing drugs eliminates the black market for them, and thus they become drastically more safe. It also means people are more likely to go to the doctor because of overdoses, and more likely to tell their doctors that they’re on a certain drug. Decriminalization is the single most effective way to combat all of the negative social impacts of drugs. Legalization, however, is not. Legalizing it means it’s regulated, and as soon as it’s regulated that means the black market still thrives.

Portugal took the greater chunk of money they were spending on drug enforcement and interdicition whcih included taking people from arrest, through their trial sequence and through to the end of a prison term and put it toward anti drug education, drug counseling and other forms of mitigation of the drug problem in a positive way. Other countries' governments, like the U.S., are too weak willed to even see that the approach has had phenomenal success in reducing the nation's drug problem.
