Btw, if you're enjoying the Indy movies may I suggest the two National Treasure movies featuring Nicholas Cage (they made a third in 2022 but I haven't seen it yet), they are very Indy-like, Nicholas Cage doing the same thing Indy does but in the modern day as he tries to track down artefacts from America's history, then there is also The Goonies (brilliant 80's movie) where a bunch of kids do the Indiana Jones thing of trying to find a lost pirate treasure. In fact the kid from this movie (Ke Huy Quan who plays Indy's sidekick) has a major role in The Goonies.

The Anything Goes intro is one of my favorites in any movie EVER Interesting factoid: the man who plays the village shaman didn't know a lick of English. Spielberg sat right next to camera, feeding him his lines, and the actor would repeat the words, the best he could, phonetically. This one is often seen as the "black sheep" of the trilogy, but I absolutely love it, and the ending gets me in the feels every time. The looks on the parents' faces when the children return are so genuine & tender. One more thing: if you want a little bit more of the actor who plays Short Round as a youngster, and if you haven't watched it already, you HAVE TO watch The Goonies. You'll love it.

Oh, me too. I saw it the weekend it opened in the theater, so of course it was (1) totally packed with no empty seats and (2) no one really knew what to expect. Yeah, the entire theater was squirming and squealing at the scene with all the bugs. Bedlam is right. But the whole movie was like that: groans of disgust with the monkey brains, collective shock when the heart was removed, everyone leaning to one side as those rail cars veered around curves, gasps of breath every time those rail cars had to jump a gap in the track, and laughter whenever the rail car safely made it across. It was an experience you can only get in a theater! Sadly, you have to wonder if those days are long gone.

Even Kate Capshaw questioned Spielberg on all the screaming but Steven wanted screaming so screaming he got. I think that there is some truth to idea that they made her so annoying as a kind of catharsis to the acrimonious divorces they were both going through. @@ronweber1402 There was the faintest whiff of a good idea in the scene where they were talking about her grandfather, and how it was that she ended up obsessed with making money (grandpa died poor no matter how many people he made happy... making people happy is great, but if you die because you can't afford a doctor or heat for the house in the winter, not so good). The arc could have been her realizing that making kids happy was a good thing to do, and maybe you don't have to be rich to be secure, or something like that. The materials were there. The priest pulling the sacrifice dude's still-beating heart out of his chest, him still living, then the heart bursting into flame when the guy does is amazing. When Willie is being sacrificed, the priest's hand moves toward her chest, but for some reason, he does not do the heart-pulling trick. Obviously, we need Willie to live, for film purposes. But why he refrained from performing that part of the ritual in the moment is unclear. When the priest and Indy are clinging to the slats of the dangling bridge, his fingers start to burrow into Indy's chest, but Indy manages to out-muscle him and pull his hand back. It is one of the cooler, but definitely weirder, magical effects in any of the Indiana Jones films- of fantasy films in general.

The bats are actually Fruit Bats & will come out during the daytime. The exterior of Pankot Palace was realised as both sets, which were build here in the UK….& also as a series of matte paintings. The guard who gets crushed is Pat Roach; who you saw get minced by the plane in Raiders. He also plays General Kael in Willow. Also, during the fight with the guard in the room, Ford suffered a severe spinal disc herniation. Despite Ford managing to film some scenes, production ended up was shut down whilst Ford was flown to hospital. For the following 5 weeks, stunt double Vic Armstrong body doubled for Ford whilst he recovered. Just as Indiana Jones was named after Lucas's Alaskan Malamute (who was the inspiration for Chewbacca), the character of Willie was named after Spielberg's Cocker Spaniel, and Short Round was named after scriptwriter Willard Huyck's dog, whose name was derived from The Steel Helmet. To answer the question about the fall from the aeroplane….Mythbusters tested it & the test dummy only sustained a broken pelvis….so it is possible that it would be survivable.

An interpretation is that Mola Ram never actually pulled anybody's heart out of anybody's body -It was all mass suggestion. Mass hypnosis, if you want to call it that. During the first sacrifice, we are shown what those present think they are seeing. During the second (attempted) sacrifice, we see what really happens (Mola Ram doing as if he is holding aloft a beating heart, when in fact he isn't). At the end of the movie, I interpret what Mola Ram tries to do to Indy on the remains of the rope bridge as an attempt at suggestion, perhaps inducing a heart attack or something.

Not the fact a man's heart got ripped out and he still lived, not the inflatable raft out of the airplane bit, the voodoo doll or how drinking blood turns you into an obedient slave. The thing that made me go "come on, now" even back when I was a kid watching this was how Indie made a grown man slide several feet away on the granite ground with 2 punches, that man slid a good bit, and was out, sleeping like he was in his bed. That cracks me up the most in this movie, I'm glad Dawn pointed it out, Lol

This one takes place in 1935, Raiders takes place in 1936, so Marion is not in the picture yet. If you want to see the actor who plays Short Round all gown up, you will have to watch a movie called "Everything, Everywhere, all at Once", which earned him an Oscar.

"Is he their god now?" 🤔 In some ways, yes. The elder says that Shiva has sent them, which in theology usually imbues the individual with certain abilities as an 'avatar' of that diety. Indy goes through various trials in the underworld, a common theme, and ultimately vanquishes a cult worshiping a demon (calling it 'Kali' is an insult to Shiva as Kali is his wife, and Shiva ain't gonna let that stand). He even activates the shankara stones by invoking Shiva's name, and isn't burned when he catches the last one while the heretic Mola Ram is.

If I'm not mistaken (I frequently am) Spider-Man's weakness is his enhanced senses. They can cause overload on his brain which leaves him open to attack. Which is one reason why he wears that suit. Think about how annoying a house fly is buzzing around the room when you're trying to sleep. Multiply that by a couple million and make it come from everything in the world that moves.

@Dawn Marie, the Temple of Doom, though the second movie, is a prequel... though that term had yet to be coined when it came out. Raiders is 1936, Temple is 1935... That means Indy and Marion hadn't met back up yet. "CGI's amazing" you said. I laughed so hard! What CGI? There was some rear-projection screen work and some practical effects. This move was made in 1985. The state of CGI was practically non-existent, and wasn't actually called CGI yet.

To those of you moaning about Dawn Marie being too warm, you are showing your ignorance. UK homes are designed to retain heat and after a day of 20+ heat the internal temp will be much higher, especially in a small space such as the room where Dawn Marie records. If you come from say Tampa Florida your home is designed to shed heat (overhangs, under floor crawl spaces, air con etc).

Thanks for this review panel, Jason. I am so excited to see this movie. One of my best friends saw it today and he felt confused by it, but is willing to see it again. I can see that the length and sprawling nature of the storytelling might be challenging. But I welcome that. I confess that I am a Western fan, and usually I’m all in from the get-go. And then it takes a lot for me to not at least like it. But because this is Costner, and his passion project and I just watched and loved OPEN RANGE, this for me is a must. I’ll be surprised if I don’t want to see it at least three times.
