His strongest criticism and most insulting language was reserved for religious leaders. As with Judaism and Islam, Christianity has examples in scripture of its ancient cultural bias against homosexuality. As Jamie says, interpretations vary on why this is the case.

Abrahamic 'holy scriptures' never mentioned homosexuality because it was normalised at the time when they were written. However, what they do is put an emphasis on 'procreation', 'the sanctity of life' and 'faithfulness' hence there are verses about demanding people to make more babies, care for human life and never cheat on the partner. Unfortunately, when homophobia started to gain more popularity in the 13th century, the translations and interpretations went wild: The infamous 'Leviticus' chapter for instance went from 'Married men shouldn't cheat on their wife.' to 'Men shouldn't have sex with men.' when this was clearly a reference to the 6th/7th (no adultery) and 9th/10th (covet another wife) commandment.

I think interpretations vary because religion was a tool for control and the translation from one language to another was influenced on what would best serve the people in power at the time. The christmas tree was never christian and christs birthday wasn’t supposed to be in the winter but it was changed to assimilate the people celebrating yule. A lot of religion was changed to suite what people in power wanted. The existence of divine right should tell you all you need to know about christianity

Also I am pretty sure I am not Roly’s target audience (old straight cis female with no tattoos and only one piercing in each ear which has closed up because I didn’t wear earrings and too afraid of pain to have them repierced). Also, I get squicked out by piercing videos and especially by ear gauges ( not sure why-maybe because I’ve seen too many tears). I have to tell the story again. When my (christian)colleague got married to her wife, she invited the whole company to celebrate with them. One of our co-workers said he couldn't come because her marrying another woman was against his beliefs. I simply told her, IF Jesus did exist and was the way he was described in the bible, he would have taken a seat at her table and not at his if, if he had come across her wedding. For the flag one. How you "retire" flags is by burning them. You have to fold them a specific way (yes never touch the ground but that's always. You're never supposed to let it touch the ground through its entire existence.) And then you burn it. You retire them anytime they get torn or frayed. You are not to fly a frayed flag. And you also aren't allowed to let it fly in any weather that includes rain or snow. Giving a damaged flag to be used is actually against our flag code as you aren't supposed to fly those. But yeah, the proper way to "retire" flags is to fold and burn them in the proper ritual way.

Some of these flag nuts have some of the most tattered and ragged flags on their cars I've ever seen. We get grief at the store where I work because we have a pride flag but not an American flag. I temped at a flag co for a while. I didn’t know there were flag collectors and enthusiasts when I started there. One gave me the flag code list of dos and dont’s. You can search for the US flag Code and find this list easily now (I worked there pre google, a few years before I ever used a search engine at a job!) The only rule I’d known from childhood was to bring it in before the rain, it can never get wet! It was such an interesting place to work though. Loved seeing the massive flags being repaired for the car dealerships! I believe those were nylon and those probably get rained on all the time.

@@meuanglao7 CLOTHING kills me. I’m rusty on the code but I don’t think anyone should be wearing an image of the American flag if we’re going to respect it in the traditional way! I don’t feel all traditions are worth keeping up, but this one reminds me of our elders and (at least mine) had a lot of care and respect for people community and the flag. BTW, I’m pretty liberal. I know a lot of liberal Americans don’t want anything to do with flying an American flag. Some feel it has come to represent an awful lot of ugliness. I try to think of it as a reminder of what we are can strive for, the potential of this country. Just because far right Republicans plastered it all over everything they own, including their bodies and fly them left and right, including from their vehicles it doesn’t mean the flag represents only them. If we keep treating the flag with the respectful code in mind, it gives the message a lot more power when it comes down to someone having to burn one in protest!

Furry here! About the confederate furry: It's more common than you'd think. There was an attempt recently at a conservative furry convention (I believe it was called Free Fur All). Also, look up The Burned Furs, they were a group of far right furries early on in the fandom's history. The Furry fandom is so closely tied to LGBT+ partially because it was started by LGBT+ people in the 80's as a safe space to freely express ourselves in any way we wanted. A lot of trans people use furry to experiment with identities via different fursonas with particular names and genders. The history of the fandom is actually quite interesting, tbh! Edit: One of the cofounders/fathers of the fandom passed away recently, though his husband is still kicking as far as I'm aware. Both of them remained life-long furries

With the British English, as an American I have learned some overtime by watching British TV shows/movies, watching/listening to stuff by British content creators, and videos comparing British vs American words for things. I have some British words memorized. British slang is a bit harder for me, I can sometimes get the meaning of the word if it used in a sentence, however by itself I use Google to look it up if it is a word I don’t know or if I’m having a conversation either someone then I ask. Also I do agree that the patriotism here is a bit culty as well. Also I watch you because in addition to liking your content, I like it that you’re not afraid to be yourself.

It’s amazing how afraid society can be of aging, which we cannot control. It’s just skin, who cares as long as it’s healthy. 16:38 I have almost never seen people being all wrinkly in their 40s/50s. I’ve been working at a hospital and have seen a lot of different people. Most people will develop these notable wrinkles on their body in their 70s/80s. At this point people won’t be super attractive anyways. People have lived their lives and tattoos are memories of the way you lived it and I think that’s beautiful.

I know I'm commenting early but these religious comments have me dying laughing. The first one about not sleeping with another man is a mistranslation. The original quote said "thou shall not sleep with boy." They were implying pedophilia. Boys in that time were seen as sacred and needed to grow up strong. So pedophilia against them was forbidden. (Sadly, not so much against girls.) And the comment about religion and history nearly cleared my hiccups away! If these Bible preachers studied the history of the Bible they would hate history. A lot of historical evidence goes against what they preach. Did you know Mary wasn't a virgin when she had Jesus? Did you know he had (don't quote me on the number but I believe it was 2) older brothes and (3) younger sisters. There wasn't remarriage back then. If you either became a widow or widower. If you already had children there was no point in remarrying. Another thing that tosses their world into a loop is that we all scientifically start out as female. So the idea that God creates us in his own vision is wrong. Also, historically Jesus was banned from towns and was looked down upon. He'd be cool with the gays. Also, historically being gay wouldn't of made it in the Bible as a sin. Men used to sleep with other men even if they weren't gay. They would do this to avoid getting diseases from whores, avoid getting women pregnant, they used it as a way to get their jollies off but not "cheat" on their wives, if they were away from home for work they would sleep with men. This was very common among sailors. So, because this time was a man's world, why would they self sabbatoge themselves by writing in a law that they all do? The law was to not sleep with children. Young boys. That was the original text. Glad I can be of service with my little history lesson. :) if some of you don't like it I don't know what to tell you. I am not a time wizard and can't rewrite history.
