I absolutely agree with you. Sisterlocks is hair freedom and I very much doubt I'll ever look back.

I felt like some of the big characters took their locs down during the pandemic. I think cost has a lot to do with the decision to take sisterlocks down. They’re not cheap to maintain and I think for some it takes a toll. I notice that they start doing their reties themselves and then eventually they take them out or cut them.

Yes... That's the one thing I can admit I still have a hard time with. The cost... Plus, it went up for me so... I've been thinking about combining or something. I love them, but I also want to do other things with my money. But I do understand why it's that pricey. I'm still holding on but as soon as my budget starts being too tight, I'm out. I don't like to stress over money.

She was one I watched when contemplating whether to get locks. She had a lot of locks and I wonder if that was part of the issue. I am older and love my locks. I was having similar scalp issues as you and believe it was my scalp resisting all the products I needed to keep my hair tamed in a wash and go. When I began to work from home due to the pandemic I twisted my hair and that’s the only style I wore. It was then I realized I had tired of styling my natural hair and decided on Sisterlocks. So far they are helping to thicken the hair that was becoming thinner in the crown and are flourishing. If I tire of them I would probably cut them off. I can’t see myself taking them down. Audria may return to locks one day. Now just may not have been the time for them but I appreciate her too. She helped influence my decision to get them and it’s a great decision for me.

I used to follow Just Audria and I didn't feel like she loved her locks and knew that she would cut them. I thought she was only 1 yr locked. I appreciated her honesty though. I do think your right. She was just used to doing so much to her hair. I think alot of people are getting them to try them out but they aren't for everyone. Thanks for the video!

Hi, Im a yr and half in my journey. I started natural at 3 inches. Now it's almost shoulder length. I am 57 and have thinning, low density hair. It lays flat, and you can always see my scalp from the top. Not full at all😏 Some of them are locked all the way with buds, some not, some just stringy. It is what it is, and it's gone do what it's gone do😁 It's hair freedom for me. Never could do perms, hard as I tried. Dry flakey scalp, too much heat.....oh, and least not forget those weekly standing appts. at the beauty shop...😲 2018 when I took my braids out for the last time, I washed my hair and it came out in clumps by the handfuls.....URGH Went to the barber, skinned it started over. 9/19 had enough to lock🤗 My locktitan never closed down during Covid. Took my temp at the door, asked if I had a cough. Made me wash my hands, and we wore masks. It takes her 2 hrs for my re-ty and I go every 5 weeks. I've been fully vaccinated now since 2/21 and I still wear a mask where ever I go😷.....Sorry for the long post. Just wanted to share my journey a lil bit. To each their own.....Do you Boo😊

I am 17 months locked. I started with relaxed ends and I had some issues with fatness but it was mainly due to me not braiding and banding but I was consistent there are no fat ends any more and I love my locks. As you so rightly pointed out she did several things to her hair in the time she took down the locks also during her journey she tried a whole lot of things. Maybe she likes manipulation and missed that. I find that people that keep it simple and stick to the basics have a wonderful time! However I’m happy that she is happy with her hair now!!!!!!

I’m 2 years in with Sisterlocks and I love my hair but I don’t consider it hair freedom. Of course, I like just being able to wake up and go but I went from spending $300ish on my hair a year for box braids to now paying $1200+ a year for reties + initial install price.
@c.p.507
@c.p.507 Жыл бұрын
Wow that you only paid $300 per year for box braids, just wow... that's amazing. My non-loc'd hair regiment is being charged $200 every 2 months for box braids (that includes the hair that the salon provides) 'or' about $150 -$200 every 6 weeks to buy products for wash days (yes, I'm a recovering product junkie🤦🏾‍♀️🤣🤣🤣)...I'm hoping sisterlocks will save money & time vs both of those avenues. My area stylists charge $80 - $120 for reties.

P.S. just peeked at your locs & wow they are beautiful!😍 + love your thickness. Are you willing to share how many you have & your texture? I am hoping to ensure my starting thickness lasts throughout my loc journey. I'm about to start & I have super thick 4A hair, fine, very soft fairy knot-ish hair (easily tangles) - it is super deceiving, looks loose + super easy to manage but isn't. My stylist says she wants to give me 400 largest size locs to avoid 'too much' thickness but I'm hoping it is thick enough to avoid thinning too much as the years go on. @Relatively Rich Life

I wasn't surprised she took out her sisterlocks. She's had them for a few years and it seems like she wanted to try other styles with her loose natural hair. I am grateful for her sharing her hair journey. I love how she keeps it real. Most times when people share what they initially think about their hair, that thought process usually doesn't change with time. The good thing is even if you decide to take down or cut off your locs, you can always get them installed again. The only thing about that is it will take a lot of money for an installation and you'll have to start your journey all over.

I must admit, it did shock me to see some of the more popular sisterlock creators take down or cut their locks, but I respect their journeys and appreciate how much they've contributed to my knowledge of the sisterlock installation and maintenance. My KZbin channel is not sisterlock/hair focused, but I'm showing up in this digital space proudly wearing my sisterlocks. As a person with 4b/4c hair, sisterlocks have definitely brought me hair freedom. Wash and go was never a thing for me pre-sisterlocks. I can self-re-tie, but whew...it's tedious. It's not my preference to self-maintain, but I didn't self-maintain when I had a relaxer! I don't know if it's sisterlocks sin 😆, but I don't mind using a bonnet hairdryer when the situation calls for it! The biggest take-aways from those who chose to end their sisterlock journeys: ease up on that water, careful on the products you put in your hair, braid and band until you are fully locked (it may take longer than you thought), and if you can, learn how to re-tie, even if you don't plan to self-maintain!

Thanks for sharing your thoughts on this video, I didn’t know she had taken her locs down! I have had my 300+ diy microlocs for 2 years & 4 months now. Only a fourth of them have locked in the back, none in the top or front have locked. I still have fat, open 4b ends with thin tight roots to the middle of my locks. My fault because I’ve always hated braiding & banding. I just let it bunch & unravel then run maintenance on it every once in a while with a 2 or 3 pronged crochet hook. I’m tender headed so I love the low maintenance of my locks but hate the stiffness as it nears shampoo day & the lack of styling options since it is only just now touching my shoulders. I love my locs most as soon as they dry after I’ve shampooed my hair! I love the bouncing & movement of my locs! I no longer have time to do my reties now do to full time work & coming home cooking dinner nightly for my husband & I, so I’ve paid twice for reties… YIKES! I’ve got to do better!

Thanks for the comment! Your journey seems to be going well. Enjoying the journey is what we should all do. We don't know what tomorrow will bring. I say now that I'll never take my locs down or cut them but I can't read the future. And I don't want to. 300+ locs seems like a great number. I've been thinking about my loc count and I sometimes think I have too many. It's just a thought I have sometimes... 💖

I'm glad I came across your video, very informational. I'm thinking of locking my hair, have not decided between the micro vs sister locks. Why did you take your microlocs down?
@AnnyKeyz
@AnnyKeyz 2 жыл бұрын
I really wanted Sisterlocks from the get-go. I tried to reason with myself and got Microlocs. They were so much cheaper and the look was similar. But I couldn't accept my decision because it was not what I really wanted deep down. So I took them down. 🤷🏾‍♀️ I know I would have loved Microlocs if the idea of Sisterlocks hadn't made its way into my subconscience. I couldn't shake it. My daughter has 300 micro twists right now and it's full and beautiful and manageable. She doesn't want to loc but I can see the potential. I also really love the interlock pattern on my hair throughout.

@@AnnyKeyz thank you! It’s a lot to consider. I’m 58 and want to make the best decision for my life & hair. I thought about the micro locs but that may take more time. I’m not too worried about the installation time…but more do worry about the retightening schedule/cost. Thank you again… I may have more questions later. My consultation is tomorrow.
@AnnyKeyz
@AnnyKeyz 2 жыл бұрын
Don’t hesitate if you have more questions. I can add that the cost and time depends mainly on how many locs you get. If you choose Microlocs, you will have more flexibility on the size and method of installation to cut down on time and cost. You can request larger Sisterlocks but the installation method is rigid and takes time.
