PLEASE React to the Jamaican America's next top model show. There was a model there who's known for her natural hair and they made her perm her hair and the woman yelled at her for being unprofessional tell her she's misbehaving. It just ended all her business and she left the show.

This is something I think, say, feel evertday!!! I dnt have an daughter yet but I love how Black Women have put on the armour to change, uplift, and empowered our community. The difference from when I started my natural journey to now...the looks, the comments, "jokes" then my whole family started to go natural. I love all the little girls with full, long hair makes my soul smile. We did that!!!!

@@LolaJay_ I think Cantu leave-in has isopropyl alcohol in it, so be careful. Kinky Curly Knot Today is a good leave-in and it has good slip. It's thick so I like to put some in a spray bottle and dilute it with water. It's not hard to find, I buy mine from Walmart, Target, or local beauty supply. Hope this helps!😊

I really don’t understand why it was setup like this. The fact that we even have to encourage our women to love their natural hair is so traumatic to me. I watched “bad hair” on Hulu and I got the message like if she switches away from her natural she is open to many different forces/spirits because she is not her normal self. She’s walking the cloak from someone else. This is not to say if you wear weave or wigs it’s negative. I really wish black men would stop saying that(they the only ones who be saying that)! you just have to protect your hair like that’s it just like everybody else. It’s not much to it.

That's a real touchy subject for me. I'm Dominican and was getting my hair relaxed since i was 4 and i can't even tell you how liberating it was too see what my actual hair looked like, cuz i didn't even know. I had to learn on my own. I remember going to the Dominican hair salon one last time so she could trim the last if the relaxed parts off and when i got off the chair with my full fro the lady said with a disgusted face "let's see how long you'll last " and now I'm here loving my hair more than anything.

I almost cried watching this video. During quarantine I’ve gone on zoom meetings with mini twists, cornrolls, and updos. Before each meeting I had to big myself and remind myself that it’s possible to be natural and professional. At the end of the day, hair is not just hair especially when pertaining to black women. I also think we can all resonate and connect with Kat in that aspect ❤️
@notyouraveragejoe7003

When I went natural in high school, I always thought natural hair was more professional than relaxed hair. Tv commercials or tv shows always had “professional” women with natural hair. It’s funny to hear that a lot of other woc think it’s the opposite
@tiffanyi524
@tiffanyi524 4 жыл бұрын
Not Your Average Joe I always thought natural hair was and is beautiful in all ramifications. However we live in a society where hair discrimination among black women/men and little black boys and girls are real. A lot of black girls/boys and black women have been sent home from school, suspended or fired/discriminated in workplaces. I’m usually the only black woman in a predominately white workplace so that’s why my natural hairstyles are important to me. The CROWN Act is so important because it bans hair discrimination in the school/work place and unfortunately only a few states implemented this law. That’s why I said hair is not just hair especially if its part of systematic racism directed towards a specific group. I love me and I thank God over my hair all the time love. Perhaps my message was misconstrued.

Here's a story for you....I am 51 years old and bi-racial. When I was 8 years old my mom took me to a beauty salon and had my first relaxer put in. Circa 1977. And for the next 40 years my hair remained relaxed! Fast forward to 2017 and now I have a lot of gray hair coming in. So I decided I needed to color my hair to cover the gray but I knew I couldn't relax AND color because my hair can't take all that chemical. So I decided to go natural. I just gradually cut off the relaxed ends as the new growth grew in. No big chop. Once all the relaxed hair was gone and I really saw my natural hair, AND CURLS, for the first time....it brought me to tears! For 40 years I never knew my natural hair was so beautiful and curly! I remember my mom fussing with my hair and never knowing what to do with it. I remember it was dry and kinky, mainly because it wasn't being well maintained. I don't blame my mother she simply had no idea as most white women don't when it comes to black hair. And it was the 70's! Grease and a hot comb was the rage back then. Or a fro! So now in 2020 for the first time in pretty much my WHOLE DAMN LIFE, I am in love with my hair! It is somewhere in the 3c to 4a curl pattern and thanks to all you wonderful youtubers I know how to take care of it. I can't believe I wasted the prime of my life literally abusing the f out of my hair trying to get it to look the way it does NATURALLY! I have a 3 month old granddaughter who as long as I'm alive will NEVER see a relaxer. I already made a blend of the finest natural oils for her so her hair will get off to a good start. And I colored my hair too so no more gray!

Our hair is SO important because it is unique to us not just as Black people but as *BLACK WOMEN*. Our society has discriminated against Black hair for centuries but it has been way more accepting of afro textures on Black men than on Black women. Styles like locs and afros and even braids have always been viewed negatively but we are quicker to accept them on men than on women. So I don't mean to cast aside Black men, we ALL face our own issues, but our struggle as Black women with afro hair is unique to us and it unites us in a way that is stronger than any other culture. Black girl magic is truly a beautiful and incredible thing. God bless us!

@@avionlanier5574 the problem is when people marry outside their race and then start trashing their own people. I’ve seen it happen with Black men AND Black women. I'm bra strap length & still using that Cantu Moisturizing Lotion 😂. I wash my hair every 2-3 weeks & the Cantu is kind of a in between moisturizer. also use Alikay Shea Yogurt & Taliah Wajiid curling curl cream (I use it as kind of a light hold product, my hair hates gel 😪 ).

"we find a deeper level of love for ourselves" This is the most truthful statement I've ever heard! I never really stopped in the mirror and hyped myself up before I cut off my dreads, took care of my hair, and was finally seeing the health and growth. I felt like a Queen. A woman's hair is truly her pride and glory. Just today while I was taking out my braids I looked at myself in the mirror and suddenly I felt damn cute for no reason. I have to make sure my future babies know what this feels like, my self confidence shot up like a rocket. I'm still learning how to take care of my hair but so far the emotional journey has been a blast. Whew chile my afro is pretty big even with the shrinkage after I just finished washing. Ima remember them kids at school who called me bald headed when I first cut my hair and when I wore cornrows to school. Wait till I get my afro pick. I'm coming for y'alls heads, periodt.

Whew chile!!!! So many different things! I'm so glad you covered this topic because I really didn't want to watch a known biracial over-exaggerate the struggle and not talk about the beauty of our hair and our personal journey BUT... once I saw you begin the first few minutes I knew she was really genuinely into it and this quarantine really gave her a blessing amongst the chaos! I was so happy to see her admit to her struggle, her racial makeup and why it's always been that different because knowing multi-cultural people, when you take after your black side with texture of any kind and get raised by a WHITE counterpart, you're BOUND to have issues. Of course we know in our own community it's a double edged sword because you know...some of our grandmas and mommas still on that creamy stuff or JUST got into it after saying "Are you crazy!?" for us doing it for the very first time. And that is a learned self hatred which to be honest I feel is worse than inherent ignorance of being white because it is willful. But hopefully, regardless of whichever style a black woman decides to choose, there are sooooo many products you will go bonkers with joy (and a bit of anxiety lol ngl) trying to discover your hair's best cocktail. She was super genuine and you're super dope for giving this the pure appreciation and objectivity this deserved. Much love, mamita!
