I think Lasha is a great example for a lifter who never truly goes up to and beyond his limit, which results in his lifts looking very easy for the most part. In my opinion he could have done even more than 258 kilo at the Rio Olympics and from the looks of it he could have done more at every other World Championship as well. Since there was no threat to him at all, he didn't do it. This is really clever training programming and attempt selection by his coach. Rather than chasing the highest possible weight at any given championship, he does what it takes to win and progresses steady at his own pace. I am fairly certain that he will eventually hit a 500 kilo total during his career.
@tombennettband14853 жыл бұрын
I agree. He's sticking to the coaches plan and staying consistent. He rarely misses lifts. They want him to do 500kg and they're easing him up to it I think

Lets not forget that for nations federation and also for the athlete himself, first and foremost goal is securing a gold medal. Nothing goes above that. I feel his 223 snatch looked smoother than all his 220 ones. His 265 CJ, his clean at 260+ has gotten smoother. He is catching the 265 higher than his 264 in 2019, and he is able to stand up from the bottom position right after the catch. I feel Lasha could do 225-226 snatch and 267-269 CJ at this point.

The Europeans is a dress rehearsal and warm up competition for the Olympics. The first and most important goal for Lasha and his team will be to ensure that he stands on top of the Olympic podium with a gold medal and the Georgian flag. What he lifts to achieve this will be secondary. It would be silly to risk injury trying to lift beyond his best in the Euros. Probably 1kg more than his snatch world record in Euros and maybe 1kg more in the jerk if things are going well. As a somewhat better snatcher his Olympic strategy will be maximize his lead going into the jerk, this will mean something like 212-215, 217-220, 220-223, he will then look to get a good strong opening jerk, win with his second attempt and have the third attempt spare. That would be the time to expand his world records if he has the ability on the day.
