Always worth listening to both, lives are always different, & each song is preformed different at each concert. They add more vocals & guitar to the lives, which also adds to JPJ & Bonham adding on. We won’t be disappointed if you do both, because we love Led Zeppelin, I search for Zeppelin reactions. Thank you once again for your reaction. I personally love the lives more, I love watching their passion filled performances, you can tell how much they love what they do.
@jakeenan3 ай бұрын
They played that song differently every time on their 5 night run at Earls Court. This version was by far the fastest. JPJ set the tempo from the start and Bonham and Page went with him. It was Jazz....it was falling down the stairs on their feet. Insane mastery. Great reaction, Steph.

It's not very often that a band has control over their music. Most bands in the 1970s were under the thumb of record labels, bad management, or didn't bother reading over the contracts they signed. Jimmy Page paid out of his own pocket for the first album, and produced every Zeppelin album. Their manager Peter Grant protected the band, and took no crap from concert promoter's and all sorts of corrupt people looking to try and scam money from them. Obviously you have seen, and heard how gifted the band was. Well manager Peter Grant was gifted in being their manager. Such a great band
@johnwalsh91443 ай бұрын
Yes, and along with that came his equal 20% share of everything LZ, thus his nickname, the 5th member. This is a deep funk groove they laid down here, and I think you see this concept throughout their catalogue, where they use something very popular at the time in music and put their spin on it. They never miss and the end result is the incredibly diverse playlist which is unmatched by contemporaries or followers some 55+ years later! Steph, whether it's here on your channel, or by yourself, play the studio version for context! Great reaction!

"Gifted", like Tony Soprano was gifted.
@jimred57003 ай бұрын
Peter Grant was a true revolutionary as a manager. The financial security & musical freedom he secured for Led Zeppelin was unheard of at the time and set the template for every manager thereafter. He truly was the "5th" member.

@@jimred5700 Annnnd, he was a straight up gangster. His methodology was, let's say, less than professional. A brit Soprano.
@jimred57003 ай бұрын
@@3rdOption-l9t Actually that is a myth. The reason Peter Grant was so successful was because he was FAIR. Yes he was tough, but he had to be. He came from within the business, he knew how promoters "operated", how they treated the acts, performers. He knew they regarded even the biggest stars as little more than money making devices and treated them as such. That was NEVER going to happen with Led Zeppelin; Peter Grant loved each member as though they were his flesh&blood. Any record exec, any concert promoter who tried to cheat Led Zeppelin soon realized that was a mistake you could only make once with Peter around.

Always start with the studio versions. This is where you find the artists’ INTENTIONS! Once you’ve heard the original product the live version will now have context, to you as a listener. What’s most unique about Zeppelin (and others of course) is that their greatest attributes involved their primacy IN the studio. Jimmy Page was a recording genius, which is what made their work exceptional.

@danquerry34362 ай бұрын
Absolutely! Live versions are often great, having their own dynamic and spectacle, but to skip the balance and perfection of the original is tragic. The studio version is almost always better listening, and having this context makes the live versions better.

Best deal with Zep is to do what we did at the time, listen to the record first then go to the show. You'll appreciate them that much more if you follow that path. Best wishes. P.S. You reacted to "The song remains the same." Do a reaction this way; put on the song remains the same and then let it play straight through into the next song on the record "The Rain Song." You will NOT be disappointed.

Led Zepplin live was an experience but to truly appreciate their music listen to the studio versions. Page was a genius producer & sound engineer in his own right. His brilliance in layered sounds counter melodies and textures was more impressive than his guitar abilities in my opinion. The studio compositions are the true gems and displays of the full range of what Led Zepplin really was because live could not duplicate the multitracked subtleties & dynamics of the studio masterpieces.

Hi Steph, I'm an old Aussie Bloke who grew up listening to music from the 50s and beyond! If I were to give you some advice on Studio V Live, it would be to do what we HAD to do! We bought the latest studio album and then waited sometimes for years for the release of a live album. Then you get the feel of the band first, and then your mind is blown listening to and nowadays Watching LIVE!
@chrissiegle10653 ай бұрын
In my opinion, you should always listen to the studio version of any song first. It's the version everyone hears first, and the live versions come later. In 98 percent of the cases this is true. And sometimes you should do the studio, then the live version, if the live version is any good. In this case, three tempo is way too fast live.. you don't get a good feel for the song first. That's just my opinion. Unless someone specifically asks for a live version, I would do the studio version first. Great reaction. Thank you. ❤

It's also my favorite album of theirs); they also manage to work in a small bit of "Gallow's Pole", a song from "Led Zeppelin III", in this live version.

If you are only going to do one, than the answer should always be, listen to the studio version. If you are going to do both, then the answer should be, always listen to the studio version first. This way, you have a truer understanding of the song and not just some live improvisation, as Led Zeppelin would often break off into. It still blows my mind that you haven't listened to two of the greatest studio recordings ever produced with the songs "Stairway to Heaven" and "Since I've Been Loving You", having only listened to the inferior (although cool) live MSG versions. You really should make it a point to revisit both of those songs and listen to the studio versions. The studio versions of both songs will open your eyes to the true power and magic that was Led Zeppelin. Peace

For example, it sounds like this song's instrumental break was extended considerably. Had you started with the studio, this live version would have been a better treat, instead of the studio version now being "disappointing" for being "so short" by comparison.
