What 3 Madonna music videos should I react to next? :)

What about three black and white videos still remaining unseen: Justify my love, Erotica and a little known masterpiece I want you?

None of these videos are that impressive. At least not for Madonna's standards. Don't you think it's time to react to a ballad? "You'll See" the follow-up to "Take a Bow". Thanks again for your mesmerizing analysis.

What a reaction! The music video for Dark Ballet is one of my all time favourites and It’s definitely very relatable for so many of us LGBTQ+ members. Specially the moment in Mickey Blancos imagination where she walks up to all these religious figures one by one with her arms open, but instead she is laughed at and rejected. Yet she doesn’t allow that to get to her as we see in the second part of the imagination scene when she celebrates herself unapologetically. But personally, the moment that makes me very emotional every single time is the fact that she is still able to say “its a beautiful life” at the very end all while standing tall despite everything she’s been through. There really is nothing more powerful than the power of hope. Thanks for this beautiful reaction Eric

The look for the papa don't preach video is a reference to one of her favourite actors Jean Seaburg, one of the many references she makes to European cinema albeit a subtle one.

It's wild to me that the interpretation of "Papa Don't Preach" has changed so much over the years. When it came out it was scandalous because it was seen to be promoting teen pregnancy. "Keeping my baby" was read very literally then. There were many protests and much hand-wringing over what dangerous messages we may be sending to our youth through popular music. Even the Pope spoke out against the song! Now it seems most, see it as a girl falling for a boy from the "wrong side of the tracks".

Her look in "Papa Dont Preach" is inspired by James Dean, as is the entire True Blue era. Sean Penn, her then-husband, was called the new James Dean. The True Blue album was dedicated to Sean. **** I love when your videos appear on the timeline. You are very honest and accurate in your analysis, and you are always very kind. Hugs from Brazil!

Madonna did not write Papa Don't Preach. However, she recorded it, and she believed in its message. I think the message was neither for nor against abortion but more of a statement on teenage pregnancies and lack education on birth control. Madonna received a lot of criticism, but she made no statement about the song or her personal opinion on the matter. Some might argue that Madonna's song was encouraging promiscuity or influence sexual behavior because of the audience who receives it. However, the teenage pregnancy rate in 1986 was 107 out of 1,000 women (aged 15-19). My HS had like 3K students, let's say half were girls that is about 153 PG students that were mothers of 2 or 3 kids by 10 or 11 grade. There was a 20% decrease in teenage pregnancies after the song was released and that decrease held until the year 2000 (U.S. Teen Pregnancy Statistics, 2004). In addition, approximately 70% of students who get pregnant drop out of school. Madonna dedicated the song to the then current pope upon its release. Dark Ballet is truly art!

As always, your reaction is one of the best ones I have ever seen on these videos. It simply is AMAZING how many concepts and ideas you are able to grasp while watching a music video, you are AWESOME! As far as dark ballet is concerned, I don't know if it's just my imagination or not, but I have always thought that the scene with all those colors, when Mikky Blancos walks up to all those religious figures with her arms open (and she gets laughed at and rejected) looks a lot like the caricature of an inquisi.t.ion process... even the music changes a lot and seems like a "circus-like theme", as if the message was:they put me on trial, judged and executed me declaring they were serving God and his justice, but it was all a far.ce"... Hope you understand what I am trying to explain (English isn't my first language!)... :-)
