CORRECTIONS/UPDATES: SOOOOO... Hotel Transylvania 4 IS NOT coming out on October 1st, after it got bought by amazon there isn't a new release date yet. Also I didn't learn until just now (somehow) that BRIAN HULL is playing Drac in the new Hotel Transylvania, that's AMAZING! Sorry for the Owl House Spoilers, but if you gets you to watch it, not sorry ;) It's John Cho no John Wu, don't know how I got that wrong -__- I just found Bluey and it is super precious. Unfortunately I suspect Wendell and Wild will get delayed to next year 😢 I do think the MLP CGI is good, I was just in a really snarky mood.

"The Legend of Hei" film was technically released back in 2019, but the DVD was only just released in the US this year (2021) and I have watched it at least three times so far in both Mandarin Chinese and English. It's hilarious, dramatic, gorgeously animated, adorable, action-packed, and everything in-between! It's definitely worth a watch if you haven't seen it yet! 😊

I personally think that the CGI style for the new MLP movie looks absolutely adorable but I totally understand why it might not be others' cup of tea. I'm cautiously optimistic about the movie because some of the clips I've seen are pretty decent, and the main character basically being a brony/pegasister is both adorable and hilarious.

The “Why, Genndy, why?!” is basically because HT brings him money, which he uses to fund other projects, like the finale season of Samurai Jack, Primal, and that new Unicorn series. I’ve seen creators make mediocre things, mainly because it made money, so they can later work on their passion projects and have more creative freedom because they’re mostly funding it themselves.

I don’t think MLP going back to their roots is a bad thing. Like it or not, MLP IS kiddie and should first and foremost be for kids. Not all of them, but many of the bronies made the fandom unsafe and unwelcoming for girls and young children in the previous generation, so I think it’s a good think that G5 isn’t catered to them.

Well for this year i have finally caught up with Ninjago again (yes its stilll going alive and well) and im having a good time i'd say. The studio that did the animation changed which was jarring to adjust to but its atill a good time. Season 15 Seabound is the most recent story and while its not on par with season 8 to 9 imo its still fantastic and feels unique. Also that ending was pretty surprising and it makes me wonder how the next chapter will go

Bro, you don't know how much joy it brings me when I see people mentioning Ninjago on public platforms! Like seriously, the show is so good even after 10 years but it doesn't get nearly as much credit and viewers as it deserves! And agree with your assessment! You could tell the new studio and writers were having a bit of trouble getting used to how to create the show so that first seasons was a bit rocky, albeit still enjoyable. But they really gain momentum in season 12, hit their stride in season 13, then delivered that masterpiece of a season 15! It is seriously the best Ninjago season we've had since Seasons 8 and 9 and it's the type of season that reminds you why Ninjago is a show unlike any other on tv! I won't spoil it here, but Seabound's conclusion highlights how Ninjago is willing to take risks and deliver emotion in a way unlike any other Western Animated show in tv right now. I am so proud of them for still going strong 10 years later and Seabound was the proof we needed to know that Ninjago is just as good, nay, better today then it was 10 years ago!

I think the contrast was meant to underline his perversion of nature and of the act of creation.

As soon as the Monster came to life, Victor saw all the flaws and imperfection he had ignored in his singleminded fervor to create life. I take this to mean that the flaws and hideousness were always there, but Frankenstein was being an unreliable narrator who only noticed them when the monster rose up and the shock of the moment finally snapped the Doctor back to reality.

I agree you may have concerns with generation 5 mlp. I don't believe the CGI is done to distance the Brony fandom, I think because it's an animated movie, they would have the budget to go for CGI. I don't get why there is this attitude animation is best in 2D format, it's all about the execution not the actual form of animation used, many great Pixar films are 3D animated but what really makes them great is the emotional story attached to them and that animation works with the story. I love Ratatouille, one of my favourite films, they use the 3D aspect very well in the scenes where Remi is navigating the kitchen, and there's quite bit of depth in the story. I think the actual 3D product is actually well made, much better than the MLP 2017 movie. The fact it has G4 elements routed in the story, shows some respect to the loyal fans of G4, they could have started from scratch easily, but decided to expand on the future world of G4, which I'm very excited for. Also CGI is only for the movie as far as I can tell, the series could be animated in 2D, but with a limited budget 2D is pretty likely. The concern should be directed at story of the film (so older audience can still enjoy it), not really at the style of the film, as I said it's fine not to enjoy the style/look of the film, but I think it's how the story is delivered is the part it needs to get right first. The final product could be tweaked to reduce any weird bits of animation you see in the trailer, and other details as well. ^-^

Like Cell said, it’s not that CG is bad or that handdrawn animation is superior. But, Gen 4’s visual style was simple (and pleasing), and easily replicable. To understand the Brony community, is to know it was driven by its fan content. The simple characters designs made it easy for artists to copy it. From mere ponysona avatars, to full animations, the style was instantly recognizable and widely utilized. Most fans can’t do anything with CG. Creation is harder, and creation is a powerful force in any fandom.

You wanna know the best animated content I've seen this year that you haven't talked about? *Ninjago: Seabound* baby! Man, the ending was so bold and unbelievably sad that I almost cried! I never thought a show about colorful Lego ninja would make me so emotional but there I was, on the verge of tears! But I am very happy that even after 10 years (I'm not kidding, Ninjago has officially been airing for 10 years at this point!) that Ninjago is still willing to take risks and deliver extremely emotional and well written stories, stories that I fell in love with a decade ago and continue to throughly love today! Even when I have grown and changed so much in the last 10 years, I am so happy that Ninjago of all things is a constant presence that continues to entertain and engross me in its fantastic world!

no idea if you'd review international releases, or if this release was released in the USA (since i don't live there), but would you be interested in brushing up with this animated series called “Trese”? :0 it's a series based on the comic that talks about filipino mythological creatures and this girl being the protector of both the human world and the supernatural!! dives in deep w original filipino myths while also having a filipino setting and if you still want a bit more filipino animated film recs, there's one called “Hayop Ka” which translates to “You Animal!” which showcases this cat character's complicated romantic life. it's honestly littered with filipino humor, but i think you'd fancy the art style since it's the first filipino animated film released on netflix!

Honestly looking at what else came out this year, I feel like Ted Lasso is arguably the best narrative experience of this decade that also came out at the perfect time. The last three episodes that came out all made me cry and I urge anyone and everyone who reads this to watch it in whatever way possible.

I wonder if we’re going to get any news soon on Netflix’s two forthcoming stop-motion features: Henry Selick’s “Wendell & Wild” and Guillermo de Toro’s “Pinocchio”. While I hope they’ll release sometime in October or November, I suspect one of them might be pushed back to fill up their 2022 line-up (since the service has a plan to release six animated films a year). Regardless I am going to be *very* happy to see them, especially considering how long it’s been since Selick’s last film and how long “Pinocchio” has been in development for. And yes, I second the endorsement to watch “Wolfwalkers”! You all *need* to watch it!

As far as Helluva Boss, The last episode was part of the Big Four that creator Vivziepop has declared to be the culmination of the first season. Starting with episode 5 and ending the season on episode 8 will be the more lore heavy or intense episodes that the first four episodes were building up to.

The anime movie "Worlds Bubble Up Like Soda Pop" was a REALLY pleasant surprise on Netflix. Great coming of age and romance story, it has a really "chill" but still emotional vibe. It really connected with me, plus the visuals and the music are just wonderful. Highly recommend it

I didn't know how packed this year was. I'm pretty happy with WHAT IF so far, it seems pretty experimental and "wacky comic book" and i'm all in on multiversal exploration , love that shit. - Love Death and Robots Season 2, while shorter is still strong in its entries, and seems like each episode is longer. Yes! I'm a fan of the dragon prince. I've read an article that said season 4 was gonna come out in 2021.. But that article is more than 1 year old. I'm afraid the show got cancelled, all the articles related to the show are literally from early 2020 or even late 2019, and last time that happened with a series i was a fan of, that series got cancelled after a while. I hope that isn't the case for the dragon prince.

Not gonna lie, I think owl house is my favourite animated show ever. (Only topped by ninjago because I’m stupid). I know even when the owl house goes away forever, I’ll still hold it in my heart forever. Besides Zane from Ninjago, Luz is the only character I’ve been able to relate too. Because of me not watching shows made for older audiences besides Glee, I’ve never been able to find too many characters that have autism or that are lgbt like me without them just being coded. Having lgbt and autism coded characters are good, but it’s annoying to never actually see an autistic or lgbt character be human, and I find that harder to relate to. That’s why I love luz. She has been confirmed nuerodivergent and bisexual. She is me. She has trouble in her human school, she has trouble making friends, she has trouble understanding social cues, but she’s also creative and optimistic. I’ve never related to a character so much in my life. And I’m 14. I never got a character to relate to in my childhood. I’m glad now I have luz to see myself in. And of course, the other characters are spectacular (I even named my hamster after Amity Blight). I’m so glad owl house is a thing for it’s characters and worldbuilding , and I can’t wait to see what comes next. (Yes, I’m a hardcore Raeda and Lumity shipper, and yes, I want an owl house season 4, and yes, I’m waiting patiently for an owl house musical episode and the unofficial owl house musical)

I have been really enjoying Netflix's City of Ghosts. It is aimed at a young audience, teachable-moment style, it has short self contained episodes, but the art and voice acting is so amazing. Super unique for what we usually see these days. It reminds me a lot of the short of low budget shows I would watch as a kid, but with a budget.

My impression of Maya and the Three from the trailer was that the "rebellious princess who wants to do Boy Things" angle was something they were playing up for the trailer and won't be a major part of the plot; it seems like she gets established as a warrior early on and spends most of the series just doing her thing. But we'll see, I guess. I'm super pumped for it either way.

I'm really looking forward to MLP A New Generation tbh, I adore the CG a lot, the characters look practically needle felted and the horn designs on the unicorns look amazing, the Pegasi seem to have different wing shapes which is amazing given the like. Two variations in G4, and there's still a show coming with G5, so people will still have the opportunity to work on mimicking the art style and using it to create ponysonas, though tbh I've always been more a fan of designing my MLP characters in my own style and then putting them into the style of the show. And if the show stays 3D anyways people are really good at like, 2D-ifying the 3D models? Like going over them accurately with vector art to make a base that looks like the art style of the 3D model, and allowing people to draw in the style without doing any 3D work

I doubt they'll be changing that anytime soon, nor will they be trying to "ditch" the larger audience they gained in G4 because it meant, you guessed it, more toy sells, a lot more toy sells

I read some reviews where they talked about how the dark seedy stuff just jumps out at the end and was super confused... like... did you not hear the mentions of war from the first episode? The Sorceress's warning in Episode 3? The repeated reprisal of the Nowhere King's Lullaby throughout the series? How did you know know that things would take such a dark turn?

I loved The Loud House Movie. I thought it was better than an elongated episode. The story was exciting and heartwarming. I loved how they explored Lincoln's insecurities about never measuring up to his insanely talented sisters. Something the fandom has speculated on for years. I also liked the music and the additional characters. The animation was kind of hit-or-miss, but it didn't ruin the film.

The reason for the change in animation was due to using a different studio. Jam Filled Entertainment was busy working on the main series and The Casagrandes, so Top Draw Animation (which is located in Manilla) was asked to animate the movie.

Honestly, the first one wasn’t that bad. Its concepts are interesting, with all the characters trying to find meaning. It maintains some of the silliness of the original show, but is also more mature, a good blend. The main problem, and I hate to agree with the screeching mob, is that He Man isn’t the main character in the first half of the season. Yes, first half! Prince Adam is going to be the focus of the second half. The lead writer had always intended to tell a story about Adam losing his He Man powers, and struggling to find worth before regaining them. But Kevin Smith got it in his head that him dying would be a super cool dramatic twist. Unfortunately, that means sidelining him for half his show’s runtime. To be clear, I have nothing against Teela, she’s fine and her arc is interesting. But people didn’t tune in 35 years later to NOT watch He Man.

I'm sorry, but if Vivo is a kinkajou, I'm a 3,000 year old elven woman with perfect dead reckoning, vision that can see so far over the curve of the earth I can tell you what's going on at the antipode of any location, and perfect aim as an archer that all of history and fantasy's greatest marksmen would envy. Everything about Vivo's design screams monkey. Mirabel's design is adorable. The glasses really complete her look. She also seems to be the only one in her family who needs corrective lenses, so I'm guessing the prevalence of magic in the family also brings with it textbook health.

Yeah, as much as I absolutely love the movie Vivo and all its songs and characters and even the story, my one small complaint will always be that Vivo looks a lot more like a monkey. Hey, at least they got the nose and tail right, but everything else about him is just monke. But I still love him!

To be fair, kinkajous have a lot of similarities to monkeys, to the point that their other nicknames like “micoleon” actually translates to lion monkey, heck when I first saw the movie poster and the movie itself I also thought Vivo was some kind of monkey, one that I didn’t know about, until I heard the word kinkajou in the lyrics of One of a Kind, that’s when it hit me. Plus kinkajous don’t actually wear clothes unlike some performing monkeys, so maybe that contributed with the “more monkey than kinkajou” look. But all in all, I also loved the movie, one of my personal favorites I must say, and I also loved Vivo himself too.

When I ❤ Arlo came out I spent that whole day binging all the episodes and I totally loved it, it was so cute and wholesome and funny and I love that all the characters get more screentime and time to shine. While I also loved the movie a lot, I was kinda slightly disappointed at first that Arlo's friends didn't do as much as I expected, but then I stopped being disappointed when I realized that there was gonna be a show, so I was like "Ok, so the movie is meant for us to get to know these characters a little and then in the show they'll get their time to shine!", and I was right. I also love that the show has a whopping 20 episodes. Well, it's technically 19 episodes but the last one has the length of two episodes so yeah.
