Hey Lorelai, do you have any suggestions for how to disinfect natural materials so I can make them into rabbit toys? I just finished trimming birch bark into sheets I could use for crafts. I've also got materials and equipment for weaving and a really long scrap of seagrass rope. Also tons of cattail reed cordage. The marshes near me dried up for a month or so this summer making harvesting pretty easy. I could have dug the roots up to eat if I wanted to. Dottie's setup was the most beautiful. Also I know that design cut in the doors has a specific name I just can't remember what it is.

I thought she was saying, “Dottie” not “Daddy,” lol. I love the Halloween one. My buns lost free roam privileges when they have cost me more than one security deposit, but they do have the whole living room. There is just a pen around it to keep them from the walls. Its theme is the “Bunderful World of Disney” and has all the Disney bunnies. I even have commissioned art of each of my bunnies with a Disney character. Maybe someday I’ll make the series. 😊

I had gotten a rabbit about a year ago, he was free roamed and his home base was my bathroom area because i live in a studio apartment, a few weeks ago i found an older couple who was looking for a younger bunny for their mama rabbit and the mamas son, i didn’t wanna give my rabbit up but when i realized he would be able to free roam all of the time, play with other bunnies once bonded, go outside (they live on a beach), i decided to rehome my rabbit as much as i didn’t want to i love him so much and just want what’s best for him. my studio wasint fit for him, but i’m so glad he’s at a better home now.

It’s from one of those primitive building channels. They make all these habitats for animals, but they’re all “fake”. They’re not built the way they show in the videos and the animals don’t live in them, they’re just put in for the sake of the videos. Not sure why she used it as the thumbnail but if you would like to find it I would search up primitive animal habitats and you should find it.

Rukia has begun MOVING her litter box across her pen closer to her bowls. XD Also OMG my rabbit's water bowl gets SO DIRTY good to know its a normal thing. Got to vacume up poos later. Dottie. Its dottie. and this set up is ADORABLE. I think the kid from Argentina was asking you for help. My guess is the basket is there for privacy. As for bowls, at the very least that person needs to move them lower to the ground so its easier. I get trying to fix them in place, whenever Rukia is bored the first thing she does is she tries to flip the water bowl. But I have a tip proof water bowl leftover from when I had guinea pigs. She can't tip that. It has to be refilled more often but she can't tip it.

i am so envious of how pretty some of these habitats are! one of my rabbits is extremely sensitive to stasis so unfortunately i can't use any fabric in their pen because she chews on it. I also can't buy toys because some woods are bad for her and the vet told me to avoid everything but untreated pine. as such, i make everything myself, and while its functional, it is rather ugly. the last time i had one of those fabric tunnels, the bunnies destroyed it overnight.

The handmade home base, omg, someone's talented. My bunny has a cage but it's only his home base. And it's one of the biggest pieces of furniture in our living room. He's free roaming. The best thing (I think in his opinion too) that we ever bought was a big rug, we had smaller area rugs, but now we also have this big one and he loves it. So if someone is wondering what to buy for themselves and bun then I would recommend nice fluffy rug. When I'm handsewing there is also blanket on the floor, and he is always laying there. He loves soft surfaces.

Not all dogs are predators. I recently introduced a bunny to my dog. Fully expected it to take years to get them used to eachother. The bunny was constantly meeting her at his cage (while I litter trained him). Now he uses her as a ladder and plays and naps with her. Thumper now gets to free roam In the whole house except at night where he is locked in my room with me.

I went in thinking they would tell me to give her some critical care but I left the vets without her.

Hey Lorelei, great episode - it's great to see the feedback and to encourage people to make safe stimulating environments and free roam instead on the horrible ugly cruel prison style set ups. I would love to show you a DIY bunny house we made out of wire cubes, a tablecloth and serviettes (yeah I know sounds weird but with some basic sewing and design it's an awesome rabbit den multi tunnel set up with a washable cover. It's easy and portable, you can change its design to stimulate the bunny and with some memory foam mats underneath it's a super comfy bunny hideout. also I don't know if this is helpful for other "Lenny's" since we got some seagrass mats ( they are cheap at hardware stores and safe once washed in warm water with vinegar just to be sure ) Snuggles the bunny has stopped destroying anything but the mats. Just a suggestion for all your viewers with bunnies that can do the odd naughty thing which can limit their free roaming lifestyle. The seagrass mats can be stitched together with jute to make tunnels, bent to make arches and even used in the litter box over recycled kitty litter so they don't dig in their litter box and the pee doesn't get on the bunnys feet and just drains away.

PetSmart and even Walmart have bowls that are acceptable. I found a cat bowl for My rabbit. And PetSmart has gotten so many better things for rabbits now. I'm really happy with that. Also, if a rabbit is only in their enclosure at night, that's completely fine. Not everyone can free roam all the time or permanently. And it does not make you a bad person! That is fully acceptable. Rabbits need to be in a space sometimes when they can't be watched constantly. Especially younger rabbits. They will chew your furniture and destroy your dry wall. So don't beat yourself up if yours can't be free 24/7. Just make sure they're in a big enough space, and let them out for at least a good part of the day. So they can roam and get exercise.

Hey Lorelei, My Netherland dwarf Bash had been having some teeth problems were they grew rather long, we got them trimmed but I am worried that something like that will happen again. It would be really appreciated if you made a video on rabbits teeth and how to keep them healthy, thank you :).
@asleepyb0i4002 жыл бұрын
I’ve heard of a disorder in rabbits that makes their teeth grow longer than they can wear them down. The best solution for that would be to surgically remove their incisors. It sounds scary, but rabbits do surprisingly well without any incisors. If you know for sure that your rabbit doesn’t have that disorder, and just doesn’t take very good care of their teeth, then maybe try chews that would entice them? I got flavored balsa blocks with all sorts of natural fruit flavors from Rabbit101 for some rabbits as a treat, and they took to them almost immediately (except for the pineapple flavored one. They would do an experimental nibble, lick their lips, and move on to the other flavors lol)

in my opinion the second rabbit temp home is the best. It has protective walls on each side (visual and physical), ledges for shelter/exploring, what looks like a large bed of hay which can be accessed through a tunnel and last but not least, fresh air and sunlight which is very important for your buns health. The first bunny base is too cramped hence the rabbit laying outside and have fun breaking your back replacing the tiny container of hay

My little bun is free roaming 24/7. We have gates where he is not allowed to go. I’ve encased every cord in chew resistant tubing, that we inspect daily. I have grippy mats everywhere he likes to lay or sit and groom. I’ve got feeding bowls that are up off the floor. His water dish, which IS on the floor, gets washed daily, but he manages to get it dirty. That automatic water fountain looks like a great idea! He loves pets, he loves treats, he loves homemade fresh salads! Hubby thought I was nuts, but we spoil all our babies….safely, of course. He was a rescue that we got last Christmas. He absolutely hates being picked up, and will make you believe he’s going to bite you if you touch his paws. He will sit on the table beside my chair and allow me to pet his nose for hours. Seriously! He starts about 11pm and I can pet him till 2 or 3 or until I decide I’m going to bed. Always been a night owl. If I’m in thee kitchen getting a coffee or something, he’ll stretch as tall as he can with his feet on my leg. Other than not holding him or touching his paws we have a pretty good relationship. When we brought him home, he seemed thrilled to realize that there would be no cage ever again. And he’s completely litter trained . He’s a gorgeous black and white Rex and most of his markings look like either hearts or smiles. I love his adorable flops, half rolls, (though he did a full roll once) his high binkies, and super fast zoomies. I’d love to take him outside but we are rural and have way too many predators. Thank you for all of your videos. I’ve been following for quite some time, but the last bunny I had was over 20 years ago. Didn’t think I’d ever have another. ❤

I have a question and I'm just asking not harping or judging. On cage #3, they had a small little hay thing next to the litter box. Is that enough for the bunny since it's right next to it or does the bunny need more hay?

Do you have to worry about mold / bacteria in the water fountain filter?

please take care of your bun buns. My two bunnies Shyla and Whisper died of maggots at the same time while we were on a trip. My Grandpa was taking perfect care of them, it was just the rabitat. They were living in a wooden hutch in our garage. We found out while on vacation. 😭
@Rockin7E Жыл бұрын
Yes the maggots probably came from what's called a botfly.... Botflies bury under the skin of the bunny and that is where they lay their eggs which then turn into maggots I know it sounds gross but that's how it happens....I had the same experience when I had outside Bunnies that is one reason they are to be inside there are too many types of harmful things that can happen when bunnies are kept outside not to mention fleas flies etc etc

I just got a lionhead rabbit!! It's brown and a girl. We got it from our local 4h people. I felt bad for it since it was in cages all day and only had food and water and it was used for shows. So I watched some of your videos before we got it and now it's running around my room so happy that it's not on a cage. (Yes I bunny proofed my room) and I do have one question. The 4h people said that they only have 1/4th of a cup of pellets everyday and only hay once a week. I know that sounds super bad but could u tell me what's right? Mostly hay and a lil pellets or mostly pellets and a little bit of hay (like our 4h people)

I also bought my rabbit by 4h people and you want alot more hay then pellets and if he is young then slowly have them eat veggies daily once older😊

That's perfect for hay and pellets! If you are able to I would start by giving him small amounts of lettuce(Roman) and slowly going more and more.

That was great! Are you doing another one soon? My bunny is in a fairly big playpen but it is in my room so it is not huge. He has full access to my room when I'm with him but he likes to do endless naughty things! Lol. This is very inspiring! Thank you! He is in a pen bc of you, Lorelei, thank you so much for sharing all this amazing information! He would still be in a cage if it wasn't for you!
