The name thing is annoying because many are similar. The hobbit is beautiful. They read differently because they were written for different people. The hobbit was for his grandkids and LotR was for his grandkids when they grew up or his kids, I forget which.

I havent read it yet (and didnt watch it not a fan of watching before reading), but I read the Hobbit 1st and I LOVED it. I don’t understand why one of them said the writing is bad?! Maybe coz I’m not a native eng speaker so to me it was awesome. Though I lowkey regret not listening to my friend when she said read the lotr before the hobbit. I kinda felt like I couldnt get into lotr when I started (I’m still on the 1st chapters)

Tolkien created a sub genre. His writing is amazing. It's just a lot in one volume. Each LOTR book is made up of at least 3 books. LOTR is not overrated. It's a literary treasure created by a genius who put his every talent into middle earth. He had all these languages and lore and poetry and philosophical insight and he created middle earth as a media to share his awesomeness with the world.
