Kitty Softpaws' backstory always gets me, coz declawing such a horrific practice that somehow still happens today. If you are unaware, its not actually just removing claws, its an amputation at a cats first joint. Its the same as cutting off a humans finger at the first bend. It can leave them with arthritis and other joint-related issues later in life, as well as plenty of psychological/behavioural ones as well. If you cant handle the potential of being scratched, dont get a cat

I know, right? It's the same as debarking for dogs. Literally just cutting the dog's vocal cords because the owner doesn't like the barking! If you cannot handle your dog's barking, dont get a dog! Or you know, friggin train the dog to not bark excessively. Luckily, declawing and debarking is illegal where I live.

1. I love that this movie , while chronologically taking place before Shrek 2, is entirely its own thing that gives Puss his own proper backstory ans arc 2. The sequel is suprisingly *a significant improvement* over the original 3. Kitty is probably the best supporting character that was added to the franchise 4. The twist with Humpty was foreshadowed both blatantly and subtly throughout the movie. Obviously you have the looks he gives Kitty, but you also have him commenting on things not going as planned etc

as someone who has had to run away from geese in the past i can fully confirm that the mama goose in this movie is being almost abnormally nice. a true work of fiction. geese are an absolute menace even when given no reason to be (and also have way too many teeth i swear to god no bird needs that many teeth)

I caught some ducks as a child on a relative's property and got appropriately fucked up by the goose on the premises haha. My great uncle kept the goose instead of a guard dog and my god was that animal violent. Peace was, literally, never an option.

I loved this origin story for Puss in Boots I loved being able to see his childhood. I also think it teaches a good message of friendship and forgiveness. I also really liked Kitty Softpaws because she really embodies the strong female character role and I think that Salma Hayek was a good choice for her voice I can’t see anyone else playing her character!

I recently saw the second installment, the last wish, before I had seen this movie. Friends had told me that this movie was of no import, that it was far worse than the sequel, etc. So I watched it to see for myself. The first movie to me is very good, because of the main thing you noticed - the directing and camera motion. The animation and plot are rudimentary compared to the second movie (the plot mainly because they were still being very kid-friendly, and the animation because of the capabilities of software). But you can see the direction they wanted to go for very clearly and it works. Additionally it introduces a love interest that works very well as a standalone character, who complements Puss well. And slight spoilers for the second movie, she is a perfect mirror that shows Puss's insecurities and failures.

I get a few laughs out of this one, but one thing I absolutely cannot abide by is the movie treating it like Puss was wrong for leaving Humpty Dumpty after the betrayal. Whatever you want to say about teaching someone to turn the other cheek, Humpty acting like Puss was in the wrong is abhorrent to me. As someone who has forgiven people too many times, more people in our society need to learn the lesson about saying "Enough is enough". But we teach kids "Ooh, forgiveness is so important; it's important to be the bigger man; if you love someone, forgive them" without ever teaching the other side "If you want forgiveness you need to earn it" I'm sorry, this gets me on a really personal level because I have seen people, like Humpty Dumpty, who just manipulate and take advantage of other people because "You owe me; we have a bond.etc." and then when you finally set boundaries they make you feel like garbage. And I'm not ok with it in this movie. Humpty Dumpty does not do enough to redeem himself as far as I'm concerned

Antonio Banderas is remarkable for his voice acting skills, especially with Puss! If you haven’t checked the Zorro movies out yet, I believe a lot of the characteristics of Puss reference Zorro! Antonio Banderas plays Zorro in the Zorro movies! It’s funny how even the townspeople and the idea of puss to serve the people is referenced to zorro and even in the scene where he’s telling his story of how “he lost a brother and lost everything” references the Zorro story as well! Lots of references in this Puss Origin. Highly recommend checking the Zorro movies out! ✨

My only issue is that Humpty's plan has so many plot holes. Everyone knew Jack and Jill were in on it and let them go despite being murderers and they captured Puss even though he literally helped bring the eggs to the town. The only way to justify the plan is if everyone trusted in the fact that Puss could in fact steal the golden goose and if Humpty was the only one to know exactly how to use the beans, and even then the motivations are extremely weak and everyone hating Puss makes zero sense. It's also a shame that Kitty is never remotely hinted at during the Shrek movies and that it's taken over a decade to show up again.

Barley remembered what happened in this movie besides puss is a cat and can fight & walk on two legs also. It’s really good but for some reason I remember not caring for it when I first saw it. The aesthetic is based off of the Zorro movies, which are taking place in Colonial era Mexico (the bigger Mexico from before the US-Spanish War). Zorro alias Don Diego de la Vega was the basis for many superhero and adventure stories, including Batman and this version of Puss in Boots.

I might be wrong, but i think this is within the Shrek world, but just on a separate continent(?) we know from Shrek 3 that boat travel is somewhat common across economic classes, as Shrek literally takes a sea journey to find Arthur, and presumably Charming's goons would have had to take a boat to get to Merlin's hut, because the only other method of transport they have is witches brooms, and hook brought not just a piano, but a ship cannon, so that's out of the question. My personal theory; This was the continent Puss was born and raised in, but after becoming an outlaw, he fled across the sea to far far away for a time, but after the events of Shrek 4, returned to his homeland in order to settle his debt to his home town, and proceeding to get wrapped up in solo adventuring until after the events of the last wish, which will presumably lead into Shrek 5. So the timeline from my perspective is Puss in Boots flashbacks -> Shrek 1 -> Shrek 2 -> Shrek 3 -> Shrek 4 -> Puss in Boots -> The Last Wish

I know people like to compare Puss to Zorro, and while I do think a lot of the flair Puss had in this movie was very Zorro-like, it's almost the other way around. The original tale of Puss in Boots was written about four centuries before Zorro, and that doesn't even include the amount of time the story was shared by word of mouth before that.

There is a great Netflix series all about Puss, which I absolutely adore and is definitely worth a watch, even if it's not for the channel. I think it is supposed to fall between this film and Shrek 2, but in all honesty I can't be sure, but despite being unsure of the exact timeline, I would absolutely recommend it.

They're spelt the same but are pronounced differently. In America they pronounce the word "aluminium" as "al-oo-minum". Where I'm from we pronounce it "ali-minium". The words are spelt the same but are pronounced differently. Hope that helps 🙂
