Carl Weathers ad-libbed the final twitch on the canvas at the end. Because it wasn't in the script, the film crew thought he had actually been hurt.

This movie came out the same year that Gorbatchev took power and started to change a lot of things in the Soviet Union. That was the meaning of Rocky's speech after the match. I still remember back in the 80's when this movie came out--it was accurate with what was happening in reality.

I think in an interview, Stallone said, Apollo won their fight. This is one thing I really miss about the 80s, you could do these types of ultra-patriotic movies and just enjoy them. If you want to see something similar in an historical context, watch Joe Louis vs Max Schmelling fight from 1938. They had fought once before, and Schmelling won. In their rematch, Schmelling who was German, was being touted as a symbol of Ayrian Supremacy, even though he didn't believe in any of it. Louis became the symbol of all that was good about America. After WWII, Louis and Schmelling actually be good friends. Louis lost all his money, tax problems, and Schmelling paid for his funeral. There are 2 more Rocky movies after this. I really liked the last one because I thought it was a fitting goodbye to the character. Then there are the 3 "Creed" movies in which focus on Apollo's son.
@TenTonNuke

Max Schmelling was a really good person. He was never a Nazi and Hitler sent him to the front because of that. Max's manager or trainer was actually a Jewish man and Max wore the star of david on his boxing shorts more than once. Because the Americans believed the German propaganda, they had a bounty to kill Max during the war. After the war, Coca-Cola went to Schmeling to make him the face of their brand in Germany. He not only did that but rose high in the company. I think he visited Joe 3 times afterwards and yes, paid for his funeral.

The soundtrack to this movie is awesome and good when working out. Respect to Tony Burton who played Tony "Duke" Evers as the corner man for Apollo and Rocky. Burton was an excellent athlete that played high school football, baseball. an was a golden gloves champion boxer in Michigan. He also became a professional professional heavyweight boxer for a few years. It was interesting that Duke was playing chess in the movie because he was an avid chess player too. He played chess with Stanley Kubrick on the set of The Shining, and Kubrick was a pretty good chess player. Burton passed away in 2016 from complications of pneumonia.

When they were originally released in theaters it was largely appealing to a male audience. Things have changed a lot since then. The death of Apollo Creed is very tough with the recent real death of the actor Carl Weathers, RIP.🙏🏻 You are right, Dawn. It is the next Rocky film, "Rocky V" (1990) that many people weren't happy with. The good news is they made another Rocky film after that called "Rocky Balboa" (2006) which does feel like it is a Rocky film.😉 Great reactions to your fourth and probably the biggest event Rocky film of them all, Dawn!!!🎬👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻

8:28 "I think Apollo's tryin' to prove to everyone that he thinks it's a joke of a fight." Well, I mean, technically, this is supposed to be an _exhibition_ bout. That means putting on an _exhibition._ That means the two contenders wear gloves with more padding and don't go for more than _five_ rounds instead of _fifteen._ That also means the idea is not necessarily for one of them to win. That event waits for the _main_ match. The idea, here, is to generate buzz in the rumor mill about the assets and liabilities of the two contenders.

It was against the MMA "Russian Bear", all the announcing in Russian, a lot of which I can pick up (it's on KZbin). Lots of loud punches - the sound of the punches hitting gloves and getting blocked. He lost a split decision, but he was in the same age situation as Apollo Creed was, so it wasn't too bad for his age. It was only scheduled for three rounds.

You find out who won the "favour" fight in the first creed film. R.I.P. Carl Weathers and Burt Young.

I think it works better to leave it for surprise.

Fun fact: Ivan Drago is played by Dolph Lundgren. Dolph is from Sweden and he has an IQ of 160. He graduated from high school with straight A's. After having served in the Swedish Marine Corps for two years, he took up his studies and graduated from The Royal Institute of Technology in Stockholm and completed his Master's Degree in Chemical Engineering on an exchange program with the University of Sydney in Australia. Graduating at the head of his class and got a Fulbright scholarship to MIT. He has also trained/competed in the karate style kyokushinkai (he has a 4th degree black belt in the style) which is a form of competition in full contact, knock down karate. He became Swedish karate champion in 1981, British open champion in 1980 and 1981 and Australian open champion in 1982. His father was physically abusive and took out his own personal frustrations on his wife and eldest son Dolph, which was the reason why he started practicing self-defense as a 10-year-old. He is also an really good drummer and singer.

You should also include the home robbery story to that.

Rocky IV is my favorite of the Rocky films. I just love the whole 80's vibe the movie gives off. Dolph Lundgren is also my favorite of his opponents. At the time this movie came out the US and Russia were in the middle of the Cold War so Rocky's message at the end of the film hits hard for us 80's brats. Rocky V is a low point in the franchise. However, it's still a good movie, but for different reasons. At least, that's how I look at it.
