I'm pretty surprised that Path of Exile is not on the list of nominees for best ongoing games. It has a huge playerbase (thanks to D4s misgivings); the devs make tons of fantastic seasonal content; and there is NO predatory MTX pricing like genshin.

I just want Hi-Fi Rush to win something at The Game Awards its been my personal game of the year since it came out and i believe they deserve all of the W's. I will say Halo Infinite not being on the best multiplayer, ongoing, and esports game awards list really sucks. Not only has the multiplayer been amazing all year but HCS this year been insane.

Without essaying, AW II will win GOTY, as the game is been slept on. And that's coming from someone who is blown away by BG3 as an RPG, and fan of cRPGs in general. The biggest achievement of BG3 is just pushing into mainstream with all its complex mechanics of cRPG, DnD based game and roping all sorts of people to try it out and like it, and ask if there are more games like this in the genre. BUT, AW II is just insane, and I can't even run the game properly (while running BG3 smoothly), just mostly watch some streamers play, and it has been slept on by BG3 community and pretty much everyone as the actual GOTY winner. It is important to remember, even with Golden Joysticks, that Critics Choice award was AW II, it is just the award system in other categories is different, completely online-vote based.

Cyberpunk's inclusion into Best Ongoing is 100% a conciliatory gesture. They could have easily thrown Phantom Liberty into the Best RPG category; Witcher 3's Blood & Wine expansion is a previous winner in that category, so there's already a precedent. And PL is certainly more of an RPG than Lies of P. There are plenty of other games that have *actually* been (and still are) 'ongoing' that deserve the spot. Also yeah, Dave the Diver isn't just published by Nexon, it's developed by them - it's just an internal studio they made to focus on single player games rather than the MMO/MP stuff Nexon's traditionally known for. Nothing indie about that.

IMO Sea of Stars should be replaced with Chained Echoes. That game was robbed purely due to release timing. Too late for last year's awards, and too old for anyone to remember it this year despite being eligible. A better game than SoS too, I think.

Like it's not an actively BAD game but there is hardly anything special about it compared to the prior two Insomniac Spidey games. IMHO, FFXVI shouldnt be in the RPG category, i loved the game and all, even with its problems i enjoyed it, but that game is NOT an RPG, for me shouldve been in the Action category, the game barely had any RPG elements at all, dialog choices didnt matter most of the time, equipment and loot were laughable to a "RPG" FF game. Again, played 100% of it and had a great time but still don't agree it is an RPG just because has Final Fantasy in the title

On the Action Adventure category (and similar) not making sense: I don't think that's true at all. Games in that category are specifically being asked, Is it the best game when it comes to action adventure? But there are more factors than just that when looking at Game of the Year. For instance, I think Tears of the Kingdom is far and away the best game in that category, because as an action adventure game, it is the best at doing that thing. But in terms of game of the year? I'd probably give it to Alan Wake 2 over Zelda, because I find the narrative and presentation elevates that game beyond what Zelda is doing. A category like Action-Adventure is not asking, "What is the BEST GAME in this category?" It's asking what is the best game when it comes to the action and adventure aspects.
