@@Fodayswayyou can resole solovairs and for the price of even a Indonesian made doc its not worth it to me. Plus im not after doc or doc style necessarily. Just combat style boots with a wide toe box is really what im after.

Doc Martens are a fashion statement and they still look and wear good, but the price has gone up, but so has everything else that's just the World we live in today.

Yeah.. I wish they had some type of way that they could resole your docs

It is funny when people get upset about Doc's history with Germany. Do they have the same issues with Subaru or Volkswagen 🤔 I dont have any Doc's myself i wear Jim Green AR8's. Which i custom ordered steel toe. Better leather, build quality and supporting a much more ethical company. My wife has a pair of Doc's chealsea which seem pretty good. My main complaint is the "paint" on the leather, more so the amount. But for the cost they are a pretty good boot. I am thinking of ordering a pair of dr martens clogs, for around the house type wear. Anyways thanks for the video Cheers, beers and whiskey 🤠🥃

@@Fodaysway i only have a pair of AR8 from jim green. Just a heads up, They had a double layer of leather, almost a total of 4mm. Basically double the average boot. So they can be a heck of a break in period. For sizing i usually take a 7.5 EE US. Short but fat 😉🙊 (theres a dirty joke in there) Jim Green doesn't really have width options but are naturally a wide boot. I ordered a 7.5 which fit me great. If you want to use an aftermarket insole id suggest maybe size up half a size. (Not sure exactly) just email them they are extremely fast at responding and more then happy to help. Now the insole is fastened in & does not have "typical cushion". But the sole i got is solid rubber with a small heel and yes a shank. 😉 Once the boot is broke-in it feels like a glove on the foot. But is truly meant for bush not cement. If you will be more in city they have a wedge sole i understand is a better option. The trick to breaking in these boots is leather oil conditioner, inside and out. Either way im looking forward to more of your video's Cheers 🍻 Greg

I was sad when they moved off shore , but they make English docs so the choice is up to the consumer . You can still chose the cottage industry shoe ❤. I have english docs dating back to 84 and i dont really see a quality difference between the new boots as far as construction goes . People that say they have gone down hill might not have boots from 35 years ago to compare them to.

Okay that’s good to hear.. I generally hear leather is thinner now and goes bad fast

@@FodayswayI think the leather is less supple for sure , as far as the construction process , I think the quality is still there . I’m not sure what’s going on with leather in general , I feel like leather in general in all boots is more dry and brittle and I feel like it might have to due with the more environmentally sound ways of tanning and processing leather. I have older pair of Chippewas as well as some Danners and I just feel like the older leathers had more moisture and a better grain. Any boot I’ve bought in the last ten years , I’ve been pretty disappointed in the leather itself. I have been an avid hiker most of my life and always swore by leather boots in the early days, but now with synthetics being better and leather getting worse , I haven’t bought leather hiking boots in about 12 years.

@@Fodaysway Well.../regarding leather... I'm not a shoe or boot expert, but I DO see a massive change in bridle and saddlery leathers. My old saddler {I worked with horses} said that you just CAN'T get good grade leathers easily in UK any more. I look at the English leather stuff I had in 1980's /90's and it's beautiful. Well worn and smooth, but looked after, as good as new. I look at modern leather sold for horses and dogs and it's shocking. Thin, weak, just not like the beautiful 'waxy' beautifully aromatic English leather that was tanned in the traditional manner in oak bark tan pits.

@@Oakleaf700I think the same, the construction didn't change, but leather quality is a problem everywhere. Also other brands in the mid price range or above only have mediocre quality. In the 80/90s even cheaper shoes had durable leather with less cracks and though thicker, it was softer in general and had this typical leather smell, whilst modern leather shoes hardly have a smell and are dry and thin.

@@lars5288 Oak bark tanning is wonderful.. there is a tannery in Devon who produce really good leathers, but they are not cheap. Good leather cared for well ought to last 100 years or more - There was some Russian Reindeer hide from 1790's that was rescued from a shipwreck - this hide is fantastic- preserved in the mud of the Solent, it is a rich chestnut brown. What is also good, no men died in the wreck, either. The Devon Tannery sought to replicate it - {or the methods of tanning,} and did a pretty good job. I was given some scraps of the original Wreck leather back in the 1980's which are lovely.

Well it’s not 1992 anymore so I can understand how the popularity has waned, hard to make fancy boots if they don’t sell loads right? I’m happy being a gen X-er wearing my “ugly boots” as the kids at the mall said. Solovair looks good but the white stich turns me off

@@Fodayswayit’s definitely innovate or die. They weren’t going to survive as the punk scene faded into the sunset. I’m glad it’s a brand that is available and attractive to a lot more people. Wearing them back in the eighties got me called a few names that started with “N”and ended in “I” and where I went to school in NC they were banned for a short while . It’s funny if I drag out the old oxbloods I’ll still get some side eye from people my age , but the younger kids are like those are so cool, because they missed that whole era of docs they are innocent to the negative connotation to that and I like that. I was deep into the Ska scene back then and docs were made “good or bad” by how you wore your laces. Everyone knew the lace codes .
