Tattoo history lesson: The reason why red ink used to cause severe health issues in japan is because it contained cinnabar. And the reason why the black and red (or Shu) combo was so popular even though everyone knew about the risks is because it was seen like a badge that proved how tough you are. If you had a lot of red ink in your tattoos, people knew immediately that you were a certified badass. That's also the reason why all tattooed characters (mostly warriors) depicted in old ukiyo-e artworks by artists like Utagawa Kuniyoshi, Utagawa Kunisada etc. have this color combo. That's how old this tradition is.

He attempted suicide and the blackout was his way to cover something. He attempted to blackout his head by himself first and later had a professional do the blackout. He doesn't travel all over the states doing construction instead he moves to the desert in Arizona and has been testing himself for self sustainably. Yes he is a skilled builder, finisher, and overall he embraces his common sense and takes advantage of being educated by reading and learning new skills with the unlimited amount of knowledge for free with the Internet. But what I believe he wants to be known for is his collaboration with Tiny Homes in the quest to help homeless people . He is building a community for people who have been through the same difficulties in life be it by depression, severe mental illness, drug addiction and anyone who needs help. Sean Gatz is a genuine person who survived the evil that manifested itself to be his own consciousness. He battles that enemy and uses helping others as the weapon .

The reason that black out is even there in the first place was because he did it to himself while high / drunk and he figured if he messed his face up, then maybe it would make taking his own life easier. He gotten it touched up to not look as bad and well, he's way better now doing wonderful things and in a great head space to be successful.

About red ink, I don’t know how it is nowadays but on one of my arms I have a lot of reds and pinks. The tattoos are 30ish years old now and they still swell op every now and then. Even had some scarring in the lines. Not my tattooist fault he did all my tattoos (2 sleeves and 3 big pieces) and only reds/pink/ orange gave me that reaction. Maybe the colours are better now but yeah… reds fuck me up

Do tattoo artists ever get up and look at their tattoo from afar mid session? Like I am not heavily tattooed, only two different artists and as an illustrator I either step away from the canvas, squint my eyes or zoom out. Just curious because I guess it would also help people who are hesitant with the black in black and grey tattoos. It's of course a different medium and canvas but the basic principles of contrast and stuff should still apply right? 🤔 I was always interested in how tattoo artists design their tattoos because sometimes it's cool to use techniques from a different area to get new visual results. Maybe I should finally try and apply some tattoo techniques into my artwork, that gotta be fun.

What's it like to tattoo on scars? Do you tattooers feel a difference in resistance or anything like that? And in what way will the tattoo change overtime after healing and such? And how long should you usually wait before tattooing scars?
@nuh-uhbro7653 ай бұрын
This is what I’ve learned on the subject: - Not all scars are the same to work with, burns, cuts, etc affect the skin differently - Generally scars have harder and thicker skin that has a harder time taking ink, so yes the artist can feel a difference - It’s best to wait several years after the injury so that the scar is as settled as it can be, tattooing a scar too soon can increase the odds of damaging the skin farther

Ever tattooed a paralyzed person? My friend got a tattoo some years ago. It's all black and a good 25×15cm. He of course doesn't feel pain, but his body definitely does. He got spasms every time the needles touched his leg and the spasms only got worse and worse. A friend ended up sitting on his legs to keep them still, but unsurprisingly that didn't help much, so the tatooer ended up timing the spasms and shut like that and the tattoo ended up pretty decent actually. It's uniformly black throughout and there weren't too many blowouts in the outlines 😂😂

Every time I've had white added to a tattoo, it's gone by the time the thing heals. Every single time, doesn't matter how heavy it's packed in or anything. I have a 'white' flower on my wrist and just had to settle for pale blue shading and calling it good because every time we tried to put in some white highlights? Three weeks and it's like it was never there. Red ink reactions definitely depend on ink. My first piece, 20 years ago, had a red sun that I had a reaction to, and it's still raised to the touch even today. But the kraken on my forearm has a lot of bright red in it, and healed without issue. I feel like good quality modern inks are generally a lot safer than they used to be.

He has a little bit of red in a second tattoo but that doesn’t itch. They were done about 20 years apart and different tattoo studios so maybe that’s part of it too? I have 3 autoimmune illnesses but once I learned people could have reactions I found it suoer odd I didn’t plus my tattoos heal faster than my husband plus I almost never have pain/sensitivity during the healing process.
