But that's the rule, gotta say it exactly, and Pat did as much as he could to hint to him what he did wrong. He says he didnt know but the contestants are all furnished with the complete rules beforehand and sign paperwork saying they understand so that's on him. A lot of contestants on many game shows have been burned by that rule, watched one where the guy said "Mary Tyler Moore show" and they called him wrong. His opponent got it right: "THE Mary Tyler Moore show".

TNT Reactions... the college kid from Indiana during College Week had a really bad show. Not only did he mess up the "Achilles" answer, he had a pretty good gimme later ("The World's Fastest Man" when he asked for a C when the word MAN was all that was left with eth letter A showing), but really screwed up "_N-TH__ SP_T D_C_S_ _N" (On the spot decision) with On the Spot Dicespin... tough week for Hoosier academics

It's a judgement call, if it's a significant mispronounciation it should be called wrong IMO. But things need to be taken into consideration. One game show I watched they asked this lady who was from Puerto Rico (and had a bit of an accent): "According to the Bible, who did Delilah betray by cutting off his hair". She said "Samsone" saying it was the only way she knows how to pronounce it. They accepted it.

I know who Regis Philbin is but I don't know who Kelly Ripa is and if that was up there I would try and pronounce it and I would be wrong unless I got lucky with it.

Kelly Ripa was the replacement for Kathy Lee Gifford.

Ironically, I believe Kelly has hosted the show longer now than Regis did because he left it years ago before he died and she still hosts it. I could be wrong though, I don’t know how many years he and Kathy Lee hosted it together before Kelly.
