Twilight, if you look at it from Bella's dad's point of view, is a horror movie. A parent's worst nightmare. He and his daughter moved back to his hometown, then a few days later his daughter starts dating some brooding rich guy who lives in a mansion outside of town. She won't talk about him much, but spends a LOT of time alone with him doing who knows what. Sometimes she comes home hurt (physically, emotionally, or both) but she always insists she's fine. Also, there's some sort of man-killing animal in the woods. Yep, the same woods where she spends lots of time alone with her boyfriend and sometimes his adopted family. And the worst part is he's powerless to help her with any of it. All he can do is wait and try to be a supportive place to land if she needs it. It would be pure torture for a caring parent, which he absolutely is.

A headcanon I have for why Edward was so bad at lying to Bella was that since she's the only person whose thoughts he can't read, he's not able to predict her questions before she asks them, and not able to figure out what answers would satisfy her, the way he is able to with everyone else. So for the first time in 100 years he has to actually think on the spot. Idk if Stephenie Meyer actually did that as a deliberate choice but it's how I've always interpreted it.

I have always agreed with this headcanon. The books give you more conversation between the two of them on his perspective, along with what we got with midnight sun, we really see that he's hardcore struggling socially and has always used his powers to compensate. With Bella, she smells irresistible, he can't read her thoughts and she also just tends to think in odd patterns compared to what he's used to. This combination gives you at least a good frame of behavior for why he acts like a cold dick sometimes, not excusable with the gaslighting etc but makes sense.

this is proven in midnight sun! Great speculation on your part. Multiple times he had to try and come up with answers based on her past reactions/behaviors to distract her from subjects too!

Just so you guys know, I don’t think Bella was trying to have a whole “I’m not like other girls” moment at the dress shop. She only asked to go with her friends specifically because they were going to a town that had a book on the werewolf legends that Jacob was telling her about. Answers to questions (that weren't later answered): - Bella was born in Forks, but her parents separated when she was just six weeks old (and later divorced) and her mother moved away with her to California, and then to Arizona when she was six. She visited her father in Forks for one week every summer for most of her childhood, which is how she knew Jacob and his family. - Yeah, it's a small town AND her father is the chief of police, who's therefore well-known around town. And he's very happy to have Bella coming to live with him and has basically told anyone who will listen lol. - "I forgot Anna Kendrick was in this movie!" So did Anna lmao. - "Omg, the eye contact in this movie!" Oh, honey, it's not just this movie. SO MUCH STARING. Once you've seen all the movies, you need to watch the Twilight Honest Trailers hahaha. - Tyler was going too fast coming into the parking lot and skidded on the ice (Bella slipped on ice just a few minutes earlier, foreshadowing this part). - Edward's deliberately being a dick in the beginning because he's trying to protect her by keeping her away from him. - The vampires CAN eat to keep up appearances, but the texture and taste of all human foods are revolting to them and they can't digest it, so they end up having to regurgitate it later. - Nah, he didn't hear her think "Follow me" or whatever, it was established he CAN'T hear her thoughts. - Fortunately, vampires don't sleep, so he wouldn't wake up in the middle of the night not thinking straight and end up attacking her. There are plenty of other ways he could accidentally hurt her, but that scenario isn't one of them lol. - "Ditch Edward and go for Carlisle." LMAO, Bella the homewrecker 🤣🤣🤣 - Carlisle, unlike the rest of his family, has never lost control and killed - or even FED on - a human. He truly does have a heart of gold

In the books there are definitely more interactions between them where they like learn about each other and actually banter and stuff. And she also takes longer to find out what he is and decides that she still wants to know him after finding out he’s a vamp even before the girls go dress shopping. So when he saves her she’s already decided it doesn’t matter and they spend the “date” with her asking questions.

Great reaction vid! I think what everyone forgets about the first Twilight film is that it was a low-budget movie and was intended to be like an indie-like film. Liked the group reaction for this! The reason why the story was so popular is because back then it was indeed a new kind of Romeo and Juliet love story idea, and although the movie does a bad job showing it, the books do their job very well at representing complete infatuation. I read them when I was 13 and Edward was like the perfect boyfriend anyone could want (again: books). Ofc looking at it now as an adult Edward is still toxic in some ways. The first movie isn't very good storytelling wise, but I like the rest of them a lot more. Especially because I'll forever be Team Jacob (and team Carlisle) :D

Fun little "easter egg": Emmett in the cafeteria scene in the movie, he's carrying like a bag of eggs, in the movie, we hear the Cullens say that Bella coming over finally gives them an excuse to use the kitchen, so was Emmett just carrying around a baggy of raw eggs? Also after you're done reacting to the Twilight series maybe you can do a reaction to the spoof aka Vampires Suck, or maybe even another vampire movie that I love called Vampire Academy, it's super underrated and based on a book series as well, the show is good but it's a lot.

Ashley Greene (Alice Cullen) made a podcast on KZbin about her days in twilight and has on some really cool behind the scenes guests like Catherine Hardwicke the director of Twilight who gives some insight on how everything came to be and delves into the stylistic, music and camera decisions for the first movie. It might be a cool thing to checkout

Carlisle is by far the best of them. In the books all of them don't eat people, but he is the only one who does that because he cares about humans, the rest kind of don't care so much. They see "slipping up" as no big deal and basically inevitable. Carlisle is the only one who thinks murder is abhorrent.

Hi! As a hardcore fan of Twilight when the first few movies came out, I will answer some of your questions. - As far as I can remember, Bella grew up there. Jacob's Dad is Charlie's best friend that's how she knows both of them. When her parents split up, she moved with her mother. - Bella is kind of a celebrity in Forks, because the town is very small and nothing ever really happens there. She is the big news, that's why everyone knows her name and is obsessed with Bella. - I like to think that Edward stares at her in Biology, because he is desperately trying to figure out why he can't read her mind. The smell of her blood is also incredibly alluring to only him, he later describes it as "his own personal drug". - at 9:17 Carlisle tells her to look at his finger, not follow the light, that's why she just stared at him - 11:44 (the apple catch) was a reference to the book cover of the first book; it looks exactly like it. - 13:48 James is played by Cam Gigandet, but it is so funny to me that you think he's Matt Lanter, since Matt plays Edward Sullen in the parody of Twilight, called "Vampires Suck". You should totally check it out after the saga!! - To me it is also always uncomfortable to watch the scene where the guys corner Bella. Every time I watch it, it gives me the creeps. - When you turn into a vampire, everything that made you you gets amplified. For example, Edward was always good at reading people, as a vampire he can read minds. Alice experienced premonitions, now she can see the future. Edward is not able to read Bellas mind (which is a first!), while Alice is able to see her future. They'll explain the reasons in the last movies. - Rewatching the movie I also think it is way too quick how they fall in love or how fast Bella wants him to stay in her life. - The line you pointed out at 23:29 is really weird, but I think it might be Rob's delivery. In the dubbed German version Bella says that they are all weirdly staring at them and Edward replies with "Not this guy, he always looks like this", which is actually pretty mean, considering he is standing right there with them. - I also love the Cullens and their try on cooking. They know how Edward feels about her and want her to be comfortable. - the Monkey nickname thingy- I don't know why they were so keen on this 😂 Edward and Rosalie both do that and it's just weird. - yes, Stephanie had her cameo in one of the diner scene, little Easter egg. - The kiss scene.. WELL. It's weird and I like it like that. That was their first kiss ever and they're both very awkward. I thought it was well acted. - Charlie = Best Dad 100% - I love the Baseballscene, but I never understood why the hell they made it such a big point that they were only able to play during a storm. Watched it in the cinema and at home and only understood it, when I read the books. smh - My heart hurts every single time I watch the scene where Bella leaves Charlie :( it was so well acted, I love the tremble in Charlie's voice and the pain in his eyes. - Bella is said to be incredibly clumsy (sliding on ice, etc) that's why the story they tell is convincing to everyone. It is one of the things she hates about herself and admires in the vampires. - Jacob knew of the legend of their people in the first movie, but didn't believe in it, while Billy (his dad) is completely invested in it. That's why he said "We are watching you" with a chuckle. I loved your reaction and am looking forward to see the girls more often on the channel 🙆🏻♀️

I think what I appreciate most about this reaction series to the Twilight Saga, is the balanced approach. I find most reaction channels who react to Twilight tend to dismiss it and mock it and that's it. While there are moments that are funny or cringey and are valid to point out, I like that you guys also gave it a chance, let yourself enjoy it, add your thoughts, predictions, feelings, questions; all that cool stuff you'd see in any other series reaction. So yeah, awesome job; it was really fun, interesting and engaging to watch through this whole video series!

Robert actually wanted to portray Edward with more depth than the producers, he was nearly fired because he took the acting quite seriously and wanted to show how messed up Edward was, whereas the producers complained he should laugh more. His acting as Cedric Diggory was also very good.
