New Yorker here, we actually frown upon people like this here because they are the reason why we have to pay absurd amounts of money for things that are way cheaper in other places. $1700 is your rent for the month in a really really expensive one bedroom or a cheap two bedroom, I have no idea where this girl gets enough money to burn it on a terrible apartment and honestly I pity her, because one day she's going to look back at those financial decisions and she's going to be feeling really bad about it. if you're going to be blowing $1700 on anything a week it better be a mortgage or something. having to pay $30 for lunch is pretty average but I'm pretty sure the reason her groceries cost so little is because she doesn't cook too many things and mostly just orders out. but yeah normal people don't live like this this is like intense privilege and I want to know what her job is because I need their contact because I hope they're hiring because holy s*** they are throwing money at her like it's trash

There is should definitely be a difference when it comes to “business expenses” for content creators. For example: Taking a client out to lunch while also having a meeting with them about your intentions of having a business relationship with them. Whereas these creators seem to just go out on the town with friends/colleagues for fun and content sake, then trying to pass it off as a “business expense”. The latter would be like if my work buddies and I went out for dinner and drinks together, and then sent the bill to the company we work at because what we did was a form of “team bonding”. No company would accept that as a “business expense”.

The beauty of being a small business owner - writing off food and beverages, home office, gas, insurance and most everything else! Just get a VERY GOOD accountant who has a great track record. He will walk you through everything and stand behind your tax statement each year. #1- research and pay for the good account…👌

Where I live a fat ass bowl like that of Pho (Ramen) is like $9.25, 12$ for the pho and soda. Some places charge a few dollars more. But for 1 person never more than 15$

Na as a New Yorker born and raised. Since the 90s. This is not what you spend living in NYC. Immigrants come here and survive off of minimum wage or less than it. Being first gen. You definitely learn hacks and ways to save money in NYC. There are ways. Now being the first to have a college degree and having a modest salary. I wouldnt waste as she did. This is tourist video through and through.

💯. She’s being so unrealistic. Who’s ordering that much food? Normal ppl don’t do that. This is not “living in nyc”. Also, who uses a coworking space or wtv tf that was?

fun fact; there are over 8 million people that live in new york city which equals out to a little more than 60,000 people per sq. mile. i live in iowa which has a population of (close to) 3.3 million. this stuff blows my god damn mind out of the atmosphere. it is mind boggling.

Me, crying in Australian. Aside from that glaring rent cost, the cost of living (accounting for conversion) in a SUBURB in Australia seems pretty on par with NYC. Our public transport can be more expensive (I used to spend ~$60 usd/week when I was a commuter) and I'd warrant a guess the alcohol is, in general, pricier because of our taxes. Fresh produce is fucked with COVID at the moment where a head of cauliflower is $7USD. Our minimum wage is higher, but I feel your pain on that rising inflation from across the pond.

I've heard from friends the outer boroughs are survivable, but you really need to have a good income to have any thing resembling breathing room in Manhattan.

Yes you can write off things for business expenses, but the rule of thumb is "You can write off anything, but when you get audited can you prove it."

yeah i think you can write out stuff like meeting for drinks with youtuber friends as a business expense, because you can just say it was a business meeting. back when vlogging was the biggest thing on youtube, with people doing vlogs daily, like, around 2015 and such, youtubers would legit buy expensive stuff and show it off on the vlog just so they could write it off as a business expense. and so many of those vloggers started making gaming channels, which died within a year, because then they could put consoles, pcs and games as a business expense
