@@pleaseshutup7053 I've seen him constantly get called the greatest of all time, the best since HBK, so many comparisons and what ifs about how he should be a 10 time world champion etc. I think he's one of the best SELLERS of all time, if not a top 3 seller he's gotta be top 5 at least. I've never heard The Miz, but just off the top of my head... Dusty Rhodes, baby. Rowdy, when you think you know the answers I change the questions, Piper. The recently passed, true GOAT, Terry Funk. Mick Foley, best crazy man promos. Shane Douglas, love him or hate him, he was the first to do shoot promos, when CM Punk was just a kid. Ric Flair, best over the top wild promo ever. One of the best classy promos ever. Jake the Snake, and Raven, best psychological promos ever. Arn Anderson, probably the most believable tough guy promo. If he said he was going to hurt someone, you believed it. Jim Cornette, Bobby Hennen, JJ Dillon, Paul Bearer, Paul Heyman, Gary Heart, Jimmy Heart, and I'd even toss Sinister Minister Jim Mitchell in there as some of the best manager promos ever. Cornette and Hennen literally started riots back in the day because they were such good heels. Much as I hate Hogan, I can't deny his cocaine fueled promos were entertaining. Macho Man, Ooooo Yeah... And lets not forget that for most of the history of pro wrestling, going back over a hundred years now, most promotions lived and died by the ability of the wrestlers to talk people into wanting to buy tickets to see the matches. How many tickets, PPV buys or TV ratings has The Miz brought in compared to say, Gorgeous George, who was one of the two people who got America to buy TVs when they first became available.

In my opinion, if anyone was going to, it should’ve been Bray Wyatt at Mania 31. Brock didn’t need the rub, and no one who came after could’ve used it in their then-present incarnations (though I’d be willing to hear an argument for a heel Roman at 33 had they gone that route).

The problem with the Streak being ended by Lesnar is that it really didn't do much for him. Like this man has already been built as one of the literal strongest men in WWE history. He didn't need to be the one to end the streak since he has already a lot of stacked accomplishments. That and he isn't a full time wrestler anymore. If the Streak had to been ended by someone, it should've been by a rising talent that is being built as a major player in the future. Not by someone who, at the time, only wrestled like 3 matches per year. And of course I'm still on the side that the Streak shouldn't been conquered at all
@anthonylonlieano848
@anthonylonlieano848 Жыл бұрын
That is however speaking with the context of who Brock is now. Look back at Brock pre streak and post and it is two entirely different beasts. (pun not intended) Brock lost to Cena on his return and had lost to Triple H at the previous mania (though he did win their little feud.) While seen as a dangerous foe he was not the end all be all that he was after he beat Taker. It is cause of that match that we got the Brock we did, the one who demolished Cena at Summerslam and would go on to basically be the final boss of the WWE.
@theblindcaboose
@theblindcaboose Жыл бұрын
I agree on both of your stances, Brock shouldn't have beaten The Streak since it didn't give as much of a boost to his career and future stories as taking away The Streak was a negative and I agree with The Streak shouldn't have been conquered. However, I do think Brock could handle the weight more than anyone else, and also probably the most credible person to conquer it. While it would have done more for Roman, the amount of hate Roman would have gotten if he was the first, I doubt he could have risen above it. I imagine he would have had to quit wrestling which would have caused even more disdain. Fans might have been most accepting of Bray taking it as a passing of the torch from one character to the next. But WWE also would have to be all in with what he wants to do instead of half-assing it.

He was as good as the wrestlers he grew up watching. I grew up watching the territories. The majority of wrestlers were on the level of the Miz. Because they had to be. They had to cut a different promo for every city in the territory as each one got named by the wrestler. When you are cutting 30 promos every week that you have to script yourself you get very good at it. For example, Arn Anderson was known as not being very good on the mic. Yet he has a few promos that are considered Iconic today like the My Spot promo.

@@Dave_ja_vu Arn himself has said he wasn't great at it. He wasn't horrible, but standing next to Flair very few can compete. And honestly, almost everyone was as good as Arn in the territory days. When you have to cut a promo for each city in your market every week you tend to get good after a while. In a large territory they may have cut 40 promos every week. Had to make sure each city had it's name mentioned. Today the Miz seems great because so few people come close to how good people were back in the day. This is why I like seeing MJF and a few others. He actively studied how greats like Flair and Heenan and Roberts and Piper cut promos so he could find his own style based off of those greats. But I would say the Miz isn't even in the same league as Austin or the Rock or Jericho or Punk.

@@Dave_ja_vu I watched wrestling when starting about the time Arn started in wrestling. I remember him well. He was decent at promos, but he didn't stand out. Everyone at that time was good at promos. If you weren't good you didn't last long. But he wasn't anything beyond the average wrestler. The thing is, today, anyone from that era would be looked at as a great talker. Most of the people today talk like Braun or Ricochet or Jungle Boy. The Young Bucks have gotten to a point where they are decent today. 40 years ago they would have had a manager because they weren't good enough to talk on their own. Because I started watching in the 70's my standards may be different from most. But I don't see Arn as great. He was good, but no different than everyone else who had to cut an individual promo each week for every city or town in the territory. When you cut 30 or 40 promos a week you get good or you go home. But I look at the wrestlers today and think maybe 10 of them would be able to hang with the greats on the mic. And most of them are because they have 20 years or so of experience.

Here's a hot take: CM Punk's pipebomb was just him sitting on that stage whining that the company he worked for didn't see him as big a star as he saw himself. A LOT of wrestlers think that. It wasn't like he was being mistreated or disrespected or forced to do embarrassing things. He had plenty of success up to that point but because his little public pout party worked out for him, it's become his go to. What’s up. I’m the Sheamus should’ve beat the Streak Guy. Haha. Back when Undertaker first lost the Streak I was thinking “who should’ve beat him?” At the time in 2014. I looked at the roster and Sheamus stood out to me. The main reason is because Sheamus (obviously besides the IC Title) has won everything. From King of The Ring, Tag Titles, World Titles, Rumble & MITB’s. He’s never really had a bad match and has (I feel) been booked consistently. Much like Randy Orton, Sheamus is someone to me that can win the World Championship on any given day i’d be ok with it. Plus Sheamus has a move set that I can see just dominate the undertake, the brouge kick/Celtic cross. I just feel it. Sure Sheamus isn’t someone who’s been booked at the level of a Brock, Cena or Roman. Given the chance I’m sure he would’ve delivered big time just like how he is now. Like Dante said, Sheamus is a future Hall of Famer someone who’s truly earned it & if he’s someone who’s earned it then I don’t see why he couldn’t be someone who could legitimately beat Taker. He’s just someone that I can see beating him and given his achievements and consistency I don’t see why not. (:

Taker is WAYYY too good to be just 'The Streak'. (Oh, and on the side of the Miz.. he doesn't overly rely on catchphrases, which is something the Rock drops to #6 for me 🤷. Dusty Rhodes, Arn Anderson, MJF, the Miz, Punk, Stone Cold, Randy Savage, and Jake Roberts would be the rest of my top 10 wrestlers, not in that order though. Because Heyman is top 3, easily. But he's not a wrestler 🤷).
@nolankuffner3573

I've said it on other videos, but here's my take on the Rock vs Punk (and both him and Cena called the Rock out for promo notes and catchphrases): CM Punk cuts promos like he's Metallica in the 80s, some people love that shit and some people are indifferent. His backstage politics are like the band vs Napster. Like, he's still making bank, he just cares a bit too much about it. The Rock is like a Metallica concert today. You know EXACTLY what to expect. He plays all his greatest hits. He panders a bit more, and his backstage is now overbloated Hollywood films like Black Adam or Red Notice that aren't great. Or getting paid 50 million dollars for his new film. Like, Metallica probably makes more per show than they would playing 10 days back in 83 🙃

I don't think any part timer deserves to hold any championship regardless of talent. Unless they are committed to a full time schedule involved in storylines and defending the title regularly, it leads to lack of respect for them. People would still be invested in part timers without them being champions if they were respected enough.

The interference endings to Roman's matches negate all the action that came before, no matter how good or bad that action was. Roman could be having a 5-star classic or a 1-star dud but none of that matters once the Usos or Solo run in and cost his opponent the match, unless that match involves Brock Lesnar flipping the ring with his tractor, making it the most memorable of all Roman's defenses.

I agree here. There are so many wrestlers (especially in AEW) that try to make these crazy moves to create a "5-star match" but end up botching them or just do them at the wrong time. Dean was the voice of the shield. He was their mouthpiece, described as such on everything from 2K to WWE.com. he did the callouts, he led the mission statement, Ambrose was the voice of the Shield and if you watch their old signature camcorder promos, Ambrose did 80% of the talking in those. Rollins would get a few lines, Reigns would get one, and it would be done. I've never even heard anyone suggest it could have been Seth until this comment.

Number of title reigns does not directly relate to how good they are in that role. That just shows they are capable in the eyes of the company to hold their own, which HHH was. As mentioned, though, the moments that matter to the fans and are remembered favorably were when he was with a group.
@RyanAcidhedzMurphy
@RyanAcidhedzMurphy Жыл бұрын
His early 2000s period isn't something I'd call a strong selling point either, one of the main reasons I stopped watching WWE then, and haven't watched it since, is HHH. I will go with Cornette on this one, HHH is not "the guy", he never had "it". He's a great worker to put with "the guy", but that isn't what put him on top, and deep down even the biggest HHH marks know that without his wife he would have never had the exposure he got.

1. 17:00, Punk is overrated because everyone overlooks how many times he's screwed people over with his piss poor attitude, and then call it amazing character work. Nah, Punk is a guy who needed to get his clock cleaned in his youth and never did. Hence why he shut his mouth for a while after UFC. 2. Streak never should've ended, nobody who was the Ordained Star of the company deserved it. Had Roman done it during the Booman Reigns era instead of Brock, nobody would give him time of day for anything. He'd be booed & heckled endlessly like Hebner was/is for Montreal. 3. Despite two retirements, HBK is better than AJ, he's a total package. AJ is his second but not by much at all. It'd be unquestionable if HBK didn't have that four year retirement. Came out for DX vs BoD in Saudi a few years back and carried that match like it was 1996-Feb 1997 WWF. Angle is up there too for his incredible rookie year, hell he put himself through personally during the Perc Angle phase, and travelled the world doing his business with classic after classic. Top 3 is definitely HBK, AJ, & Angle.
