So I saw a video of yours some time ago where you guys spoke about the 2 korean ladies dancing in India and then you said things about how dangerous India is. I have been your subscriber for a long time but no more now. I live in Mumbai a city that never sleeps, i wear shorts, a tank top, slippers and go out to eat alone at 3 am and I am safe. I dont get any man coming up to me or grabbing me unlike it happens to foreign women in Korea. I love Korea and Bts but Korea is not 100% safe like people think and there are millions of videos of women who live in korea talk about it. At least in India if a rape happens the man is punished unlike Korea where the court tells the victim to marry the rapist and settle the issue and i saw this in korean news. Did you even see the video of those ladies dancing in India. That is not our culture and its not yours either. I bet my life they would have not danced like that in Korea and by the way those ladies are safe, no man did anything to them. In India we say guest is God and we treat people like that. I am not sending any hate but I am very upset about how you guys think. India beat UK to be the 5th largest economy of the world while South Korea is in the 12th position. India produces the highest number of female pilots in the world. India is no 1 when it comes to IT. After US, India is the 2nd country with the most number of english speakers. So much and yet koreans think that they are the best. Never degrade anyone without knowing the complete truth.

The problem is, they sink their loyalty and affection into it, and then they're emotionally invested. And many K-pop companies actively encourage and enable that, because they want fans to stick with 'em and not drift off to other groups. It's an inevitable result of the ferociously competitive industry that's so overstuffed with artists that they have to resort to psychological tricks to get and keep fans. Overrated or underrated - for me BTS artistry and growth has been phenomenal. And I think one needs to acknowledge their skills. They write their own lyrics. They can produce. They performance level is incredible. Also when you watch their vlives and they talk about their work and the thought process, it is very impressive. And it also shows just how involved they are in their work.And this has been there since the beginning of their journey. Consistently, persistently, they have shown just how much they work in their studio and on tour too with all their equipments. Recently J-Hope's JITB, RM lyrics and Sexy Nukim, Suga producing range from That that to Samsung tone to a game sound. That's a huge range. Jungkook, V, Jimin, Jin all have written and released individual songs and you can see how each of them bring their own colour and have shown their capabilities. You might not like them due to your taste and it's subjective but on an objective pov, one knows that BTS level is top notch. It's at a very high professional level. Are BTS tbe only ones who can do this? No. But BTS definitely has all of the criteria to be on top of their game industry. One can't sit there and dismiss what BTS as a team bring to the table. I don't like certain genres of music and some artists are not my style but if they are talented and their skills are there, then I don't dismiss them. Also, on the point of rappers - I remember what Jackson said a long time back on the episode with RM on Problematic Men, that he can rap but he is not a rapper. There are alot of idols that can rap but I don't think they are rappers as they don't write their own lines.

Kpop calling BTS overrated isn't even a 'hot take' anymore. How can I ever forget how Kpop was so threatened by BTS's Billboard wins that in 2018 a whole twitter thread was trending and to quote a famous one: "The organization of the United Kpopers declares ARMY expelled as for today" and "Thanks to ARMYs for understanding and accepting our degradation in a good way. Even though they are now at a lower level, the kpop community wised them luck" I see it so often that I don't even bother unless they are misinforming people and have no factual base over saying it (quiet often actually). I listen to a lot of other artists and heavily respect a lot of them (and don't appreciate how not just BTS but kpop is misunderstood cause it is 'korean popular music' and not Korean Pop music with many masterpieces). Then there are few I watched to widen my spectrum and be unbiased. But that never changed the way this group has always been ahead of its time alongside unmatched passion towards music. This is every trend bts has set that is very relevant in kpop today: kzbin.info/www/bejne/hoGsp2Wla8p4abs Talk about how casually the industry discredits the BTS inspite adopting majority of the aspects that a group today cannot imagine debiting without. You can strip them of all the hype but their songs will stay relevant because of this: kzbin.info/www/bejne/aaaUpZ9jZclrodk Like I still sometimes go back to their 2012 logs on KZbin and them talking about the process of production, their training, the prejudice etc. While most of the industry to date doesn't care about artistry or artistic growth, Namjoon has literally called out the industry on how it doesn't allow one to grow. And the talk over the fandom when (based on numerous concert and fan demographic stats that show percentages on an average is something like 9.8% teenagers, 30.1% in 20s, 37% in 30s, 18.1% in 40s and 4.7% were 50 or above). Also being a fangirl is no wrong. And yes it isn't easy to cover BTS's history with 300+ songs in their discography, with easily about 8 to 10 genres and rebellious lyricsm with extensive cultural background. Like this channel itself has done so many breakdowns on their heavy lyricsm to make it more accessible to foreign fans. Edit: for some in the comment saying they only wrote and produce few songs. The members and especially the three rappers have written almost 90% of music in their discoraphy alongside few in-house writers and producers. So much that all of the 7 are members of the Korean Music Copyright Association. As of 2022, Suga has 147 credits (songs under him as writer, composer, producer)Jhope has 119 credits, and RM has 200 credits. This makes him the youngest and second most credited artist in Korea since 2021 after co-writing the group TXT's song 0×1=love song. Also the pandemic does not only involve their English songs. 'BE' album is a critically acclaimed album and their recent be-side 'Run BTS' was a total hit alongside melow vocal heavy songs Yet to Come and For youth (watch KBS and PROOF live). Not to forget the numerous collabs & solo works. You don't have to be interested in the group. But before saying random things, doing some research can help discussions be more sensible.

@pratibhachaudhary90162 жыл бұрын
So true...Girl groups just move their arms in all directions and call that dancing. And they often get lazy only by doing this much. Any normal person with a sense of rhythm can easily do such choreography.

But no one wants to have that conversation. They could do so much more. All that time and trauma in training just to have your hard acquired skills underutilized. The choreo may still be technically difficult but the common viewer doesn't care about technicalities, they care about being visually intrigued and entertained. Too many of these gg choreos are like cheer routines minus the acrobatics.

I agree with the hot take about minors, the Kpop industry is already brutal, and it's even worse towards minors. many idols like Taemin, Jungkook, Minzy, Boa, Sunmi, Sooyoung, IU have talked about either how they were too young or how much they regret debuting too young. Until the kpop industry can make itself safe for minors, they should focus on the safety and longevity of idols.

Re. #9: I think there may be a cultural difference of opinion. To many in the west, a great video does not make a song better. If you aren't just as into the song in your car, then it's not going on your playlist. For example, some BTS' early low-budget mvs were just as much fun as some of their later high-budget ones. And some of the songs are better. Sometimes a great song and a great mv come together to make something iconic (e.g. Spring Day or BST). As much as I love BlackPink videos, I'm just not interested enough in most of their songs to play them outside of KZbin.

@mamawahg37362 жыл бұрын
@Jan vdb. With all do respect. I believe you should elaborate on “they cannot sing”.To make that kind of assumption you would have to find a video where they practice on camera and there isn’t any music. Once you hear them sing, without the vocals or without the backing of any music, you yourself can make a sound opinion. If you do not like them. You are entitled to your taste. If their musical style or singing is not to your liking you are entitled to that. But to hold an opinion that they cannot sing with out any evidence, technique or an objective look is an indication that you may not know if someone can sing in a raw authentic way no music just a-cappella or acoustic. Within the vocal line only 1 actually had natural talent. All of them cultivated their vocals. Which means you can be taught and trained to sing when you are young or older. To learn to sing is to practice a muscle, the vocal cords along with pitch and tempo. The same goes for all of them not just the vocal line. Again, with all do respect if you are just saying “ they cannot sing” because you don’t like them. Just say I don’t like them and move on.

My personal opinion - K-Pop industry is good when it comes to Korean audience. For international viewers, it needs more maturity in terms of vocal capability & dancing. Majority of idols are average or below average. Since they debut as group they exist, but as solo they will definitely face problem. K-pop industry or Koreans in general are highly obsessed with visual. I have seen girls going crazy about BTS V. When asked why? They only talk about his visuals. But when asked how he sings or dances - they start discussion on it but again start talking about on his "good looking face". I can understand why BTS is so popular among girls. 😀 Since I passed that age of infatuation I always try to listen to their voice in Spotify. That gives me very good idea who is vocally strong or really talented.

Also I have a unpopular opinion, the kpop industry doesn’t have many good rappers, many “rappers” in Kpop are praised and called good rappers just because they rap fast 💀 I don’t think many stans understand what a good rapper is, a good rapper doesn’t just have speed, a rapper has good lyrics/writes their own lyrics, can rap on any beat, has a good flow, etc.

That means enforced work/life/school balance, background checks and mandatory reporting for all adults involved, strick laws in regards to work hours (for trainees too) and mandatory time off. It could be that they're not my style, but I would like to see more variety of music as they are a talented group. It's like actors, a way you can tell someone is good at acting is if they can play a variety of roles well. Blackpink songs are one dimensional, but I know they have so much more potential. So, it lowkey makes me mad when they are overhyped for putting out one dimensional music. (I hope I don’t sound too harsh to the music producer) I don't think BTS is overrated, but I do think they are overhyped. Like some recent kdramas that are good, I think they are good, I'm just tired of hearing their names everywhere I turn. Like they aren't the only kpop groups. But as someone who has been listening to them since their debut, they have legit worked nonstop for 10 years, and that's only after their debut. I'm not even counting the years of training. But to call both "rappers" is confusing and misleading bc they aren't the same thing and aren't meant to be judged the same way. It reminds me of the time GOT7's Jackson was saying how he raps but isn't a rapper and that confused the person he was trying to explain the concept to. Maybe we should use a term like "rap performers"? Bc just using "kpop rapper" is also weird bc there are kpop idols who are also rappers, who write and perform their raps under the kpop label.

I think its fine for young kids to start training early as long as there is a strict balance between training and normal life. They should finish high and have an associate degree in something, you have to have a net to catch you if you fall. Debut age should be 20, yes by law you are an adult at 18 but still a teenager, i think one should leave there teen years before debut. Also training for 2-7 does not always guarantee quality, some idols train for that long and still cant sing well. Adults are suppose to protect child idols but adults are the one's to hurt them the most and ensuring that the company earns money outways the well being of idols. Children are easier to manipulate and control. It is hard for parents to say no to their child who so desperately want to pursuit their dreams and most of these parents dont know jack shit about the entertainment industry which makes it easy for the company to manipulate them also. Which is why I recpect Samuel's mom so much for not letting him debut with seventeen at such a early age.

I don't get this obsession with forcing idols to have a backup plan when most people do not study for two careers in case one of them fails. Most people study for one career and switch only after that one career plan fails. Besides, the only good safety net are either rich parent or trust funds. I think people are going about this the wrong way anyway. It's not industry that needs to adapt to the education system but the education system that needs to adapt to the industry. We have sports schools and music schools so idol schools that is able to cater to their training/debuting while also providing the necessary education is way more effective.

Hmmm.. yes. For a I-boycott to be effective, the group has to have an extremely large international fanbase. Most groups don't. They're *beginning* to get large overseas fanbases, but the majority of their fans are domestic, because the industry specifically focuses on gaining a 'home crowd' before reaching out to the international audience. Probably for this very reason: as long as they keep their Korean fans happy, the rest don't have much to say about it. The only groups I'd say, so far, that have a big enough I-base to effectively boycott are BTS, Blackpink... and maybe Exo. The other 3rd and 4th-gen groups are mostly not there yet. And the scabs... yeah, a boycott would be a fantastic opportunity for them to get their hands on some merch. Stuff wouldn't be selling so fast, prices might have dropped, and the gold-diggers and scalpers would have wandered off to greener fields.

Define "international". Kpop is very much influenced by Asian audiences. International isn't just Western countries. China and Japan are a big deal too.

also a lot of "international" boycots are from mainly americans. when we talk about i-fans we rarely talk about japan in the english-speaking internet even though they're often a larger part of the entire fandom
@bungluna92112 жыл бұрын
Sorry but no. Kpop expanded precisely because the home marked couldn't fully support the industry. That's why they go to Japan, China and SEA, and more recently the West. Whenever China boycotts, Kpop feels it. If Japan closed its doors, they would fell it too. So my hot take is that Kpop would whither as a significant industry it foreign markets were closed to it.

IDK if this is a hot take or not, but fans have to realize that what idols show on camera isn't necessarily them, they have a persona or an image to show so I cringe a bit when people say "oh but ___ is so nice" etc, like they know they're on camera and they know they have to be nice. You can't really say you 'know' an idol group based on what they project. Like can they really show this 'persona' so many hours in a day? Heck yes, it's their job. They know if they mess up it will be hell for them

As for BTS being overated. People forget where they came from and how hard their lives were. Their music had a message that resonated with the youth and for foreign fans, it resonated with all age groups. I'm in my mid sixties and am a proud Army. They have done so much and yet stayed very humble. They have been treated terribly yet still because of the love and respect they have for Armys they continued even when things were so very hard. They have paid their dues and earned every bit of the love and support they get. I myself stream on only 1 device at a time and when I stream, my personal playlist contains a lot of different songs. The guys don't like being called the best in the world, even tho to me they are, because to them they just love music and are lucky enough to get paid for it. They try to remind themselves that they are not that great. As RM once said with each award that 50% belongs to Army and 35% belongs to BTS which as he put it that's only 5% each and the other 15% belongs to Bighit and Hybe. In that way of thinking it helps them to stay humble. Yes some of their topics especially in the early years were what Koreans considered controversial or taboo, but these are the things that really need addressed by society as a whole.

BP has some of the worst raps, what are you on about lmao. BP truly has some of the most cringy lyrics in the whole industry, not to mention the non-lyrics which are just sounds, I'm blaming YG for that. BP rappers are not real rappers, they're idol rappers, they don't write their own lyrics. A real female rapper in kpop would be someone like Moonbyul, who's also the most credited female idol in the whole industry now and has been writing all her raps since debut. BP rappers also lack rythm in their rapping and have one style of rapping, there's a lack of diversity.

Yeah nah BTS are not overrated. A-lot of recent fans seem to pay a lot of attention to their current releases like Butter, PTD, Dynamite and Bad Decisions. That’s like .05% of their whole discography which contains more than 200+ songs that are mostly in Korean and Japanese and that also includes their solo projects. The amount of time and effort these boys have put into their craft is unmatched and they’re the reason why a-lot of Kpop groups comeback 2-3 times a year. They have changed the game and have made the Kpop industry more competitive than it was 10 years ago. They have also played around with 8 or more kinds of genres (hip-hop, rnb, jazz, rock, pop, ballad, edm, reggae, classical, trap etc.) which shows their experimental side and majority of the time they have executed those new sounds very well. They’ve even introduced theories and intricate story telling in their comebacks that have more than one conclusion which leaves fans thinking and piecing out the puzzles BTS has left for us to solve. They’ve changed the game in so many ways and i just don’t agree with people that says that BTS are “overrated”. There’s not a-lot of groups that talk about social and economical problems that people go through on a day to say basis like BTS does. A-lot of artists sing or rap about love in a relationship or break ups while BTS are out here talking about acceptance in one’s self and showing us how self love can be achieved in our lives which is extremely rare for an artist to talk about. So yeah BTS’ are not overrated. They’re extremely popular and they deserve it but tbh they’re pretty underrated because I don’t think a-lot of netizens are aware of their past work before all the western collabs they’ve been doing. Ngl im pretty sick of the western collabs because i just want them to be going back to their roots and make music that they enjoy making again. The only collabs I would want for them to be doing with from the states are with J. Cole and hopefully one day an AGUST D and Eminem collab. That’s about it lol

It’s sounds crazy at first if I say speaking over a beat ain’t rap, but that’s the fact. Because rapping requires you way more. If someone gave me a presentation about Microbiology and teach me how to present it, I would be able to do it and pick even certain things up, but it wouldn’t make me a Microbiologist myself. Kpop has a lot of "rappers" who are NOT rappers. It's cringey at this point, not every group needs rappers. Kpop is also generic, same noise sound, super hype beat, dark outfits, cringey "rappers". I don't include BTS, BTS rapline have rappers, they have hip hop roots, they were groomed by true legends, they write their raps, they tell their stories in lyrics, they have skills, they know the hip hop culture and it's history, they pay homage and they Respect the culture. Those are NOT "idol rappers" but real Rappers. A lot of kpop "rappers" just get handed music sheets by their companies and just "rap?". Y'all in the comments, I will not tolerate BTS slander because no kpop group is even close to their musicality and talent. I would say BLACKPINK rappers have a generally good flow in English and korean. And they can't rap like American rappers in English (Which most not all simply speak about sex, Killing and money anyway) because of thier image. They don't write thier own lyrics which is a huge L for any rapper. But other than that when they rap in Korean I would say they are top five among girl group and people just love to hate on them.

top5 among gg? there isnt a single GG that have the cadance and delivery as jennie and lisa. maybe in boygroups.. but which female rapper in a gg can rap like them? even in korea as a whole not just gg? i only can think of jessi and CL. And they wrote their own rap lyrics already (So hot remix rap was written by them, Jennie wrote the entire long new rap verse for the Solo remix at the show, They wrote an entire new rap verse for the sure thing cover, lisa wrote the extra rap lyrics for say so at the show and so on.) of course they arent out there to get street credibility from US rappers lol. but even Real rappers like Crypt and Knoxx hill saw their talent and named them the best rappers in kpop.

I guess that's what makes kpop music industry different from western or other music industry, the way they focus more on visual aspect , the dance and so on. Nowadays i'm hardly listening to kpop songs because most of them focus more on visuals than actual music production. But i even realized that i should just stop hating on kpop because maybe that's how it works , that's their unique selling point. Also the companies know what they are putting out. They are running a business in the end so they know what is needed for their target audience.
