Hey, “moderately clever bar” guy here again. Ready For Love is the weakest track and sonically doesn’t belong in this album. But it does make sense thematically and follows the narrative progression. Yeah Yeah Yeah is new love. Hard to Love is jaded, toxic love. Happiest Girl is the breakup. Ready For Love is… new haircut, new look, reactivating the okcupid/tinder account. 😂 Edit: Oh shit, I realized that I missed Tally in my theory of the narrative. Tally is actually the jumping back on the dating wagon, phase, not RFL! Thats when Tinder gets reactivated. The “slut phase” so to speak. Then finally RFL is the whole ok, I’ve been a chronic dater for long enough, im ready for a label. No more 2am booty calls, introduce me to your friends as your girlfriend! 😂

I think if you remove this album from the context of taking BP's career somewhere, it becomes perfectly enjoyable. Someone in the live chat said it; "at this point BP is BP." My thoughts exactly. You got 3 choices with BP: You can continue trying to squeeze revolutionary depth out of centrist flavored bops like an unhinged stan never to be vendicated. You can unstan 🤷🏾♀️. Or you can accept, pop in those earbuds and sing along. No matter which anyone chooses, BP are what they are.

I definitely agree with Shutdown's usage of the La Campabella sample. It got old really fast. Really nice at the beginning, but at the end of it, i was like - that's it? And its really too bad because the sample has so much potential. They could have done some more experimentation with it just like they did with Pink Venom. Typa Girl is my favourite in musicality overall - but the lyrics has little to be desired. The "I'm not like other girls" messaging is so overdone already. You don't have to put down traditional female qualities in order to pull yourself up. We're all different, just because certain females have traditional feminine interests - doesn't make you better than them.
@secretthirdthing222 жыл бұрын
yes, in typa girl they said: ‘i’m not like those other girls at all’, but they never stated these other things you mentioned? they never ‘put down traditional female qualities’ or criticized female interests’. it’s a bit of a reach, don’t you think? in typa girl they sing mostly about themselves, besides this one line i cited, there’s no mention of other women.
@touchofice2 жыл бұрын
@@secretthirdthing22 hhhmmm actually they did. on the lyrics it says "I bring money to the table, not your dinner". this clearly takes a jab on traditional female roles of taking care of the household. also "I'm not like other girls" is an existing trope on numerous movies and even in tiktok. there are a lot of video commentaries about it in YT. you can look it up.

@@touchofice And? Is it wrong to not wanting to conform to that role? In fact many women are EXPECTED to follow that and criticized when they choose not to. This song is not about criticizing "female qualities" (and also man wtf why female qualities, let me tell you if I ever put dinner on the table just run. I'm terrible at it and not interested and I get awful criticism bordering on if not outright bullying for it because these supposedly girly qualities just don't come naturally to me. so honestly FCK that bs) but the men's expectation that that should be the woman's role regardless of her opinion.

They are okay with this. As long as it's getting views and streams, it's okay. They retain what they are. It's safer. The main comcern i have is that they shoule release more songs. They should release mini albums with 2-4 experimental songs and then from there see what's good and not so good type of songs to include in their nex5 full studio album. It's just funny that they concentrate more on 'safe' than making sure fans are satisfied. Fans are happy but satisfied with the full album? I dont think so. @damla57182 жыл бұрын
I love Danny's reviews bc he is honest. I'm not a BP fan, just check out new song releases, but from the outside it seems like members themselves could make a better album. Rose's own writing/composing/producing is really delicate and i'd love to hear more for songs like that from their group. The songs they offer to the gp sounds like the same, having similar vibes. Most of the gp dont know their b-sides. So the general conception is 'Oh they made another song with repeatitive lyrics' and after a long break even I expected more. Also RFL shouldnt really be on this album. It feels so.. unfinished? Like there were more songs but then they decided 'Nah 8 will do the job, maybe we can release a repackage album with the rest' kinda vibe? Having just 1 solo is also bit weird, there are fans and there are SOLO fans.. so that could lead to civil war :D The best would be having 4 solos, which could make more tracks for an album. This feels so short :( On the other hand; i kinda dont like the 'After listening to this 30+ times...' phrasing for album/song reviews. If you're a fan ofc you'll listen to it several times and whether you like it or not, after hearing it that much you'll kinda get familiar with it. Just like ad jingles, it'll stuck your head. I never listened an IVE song fully with my own will, but after hearing it from stories, reels and yt shorts i nearly memorized all the lyrics unintentionally. If you dont like a song or appreciate it in first 2-3 times, then the song production is not that good and fans should criticize that for an improvement in the future. Many criticize Teddy for being lazy and using the same things over n over but hardcore fans always come to the rescue. Thank you for the review Danny

Have you ever thought maybe hardcore fans are hardcore fans for a reason, and maybe they...idk...genuinely like the song? We still have the "rap heavy" and in-your-face tracks that make Bp who they are while, at the same time, exploring different sounds. I love when they go out of their comfort zone and explore different genres because they are always capable of capitalizing on them. It's proof of their ability and talent. In conclusion, while I still very much love their hard-hitting hip-hop-inspired stuff, this album was a breath of fresh air and was able to give them the ability to explore new sounds while simultaneously keeping the Blackpink brand on it. I also agree with the sampling of La Camponella. It's one of my favorite classical songs that used to bring tears to my eyes because of how emotional it is. It makes me feel like there's beauty in being disgraceful because of how chaotic yet mesmerizing it is as a whole. At first I was really psyched to hear it in a Blackpink song, bc I definitely think that song and this album's theme were a good fit, but when I realized that was the only part of it they used, I was for sure disappointed because it could've elevated the song to another level. I also got the narrative after listening to it about 30 times (I just had the album on loop while I worked lol). At first I was a little underwhelmed because none of the songs are that groundbreaking like you said, but also because I definitely heard their lyrics before in other songs. But then I realized from watching the dance videos, they seem to be purposely throwing in old dance moves and I'm sure the lyrics and music are purposeful throwbacks to other artists and music eras as well. Upon first listen I also thought the songs were a little underwhelming because it started off hyped and then sort of seemed to lose steam, but that without really listening to lyrics. I do think these songs definitely get better over time and grow on you, because now the last half of the album has my favorite tracks. Happiest Girl might as well be the story of my life, I found Tally to be really enjoyable and empowering, and Hard to Love is ironically a little hard to comes to terms with for me due to how hard it hits home ;w; After all this, I really enjoy the juxtaposition of Black - dark melodramatic and complicated - with Pink - happy, confident, and in love with yourself - and I love the concepts and themes that play with this. Overall, yeah it does suck that there's only 8 songs on the album, but I do think each song is very cohesive with the narrative of a group calling themselves "Blackpink," and overall I'm excited for what a big company like YG has in store for BP in the future if they continue to explore themes and lyrics that actually mean something instead of just songs that are easy to dance to.

Not the PINK side, and that’s unfortunate, because it leaves half the album sounding dated & stale. Why was ‘Ready for love’ on this album? It’s completely out of place and taps into a stale music trend that peaked commercially over 5 years ago. It sounded very 2015 😅

Really enjoyed your review! As for me I cant help myself to love everything Black Pink does. Im not sure if im just so happy to hear something new from them or just the sound of their voices, swag or the beats/ I dont know what it is but i just feel good listening to them. The only time i was unsure if i liked a song from them was Icecream but even then now i like it lol.

I actually really like this album, certainly more than "the album". It has one of my favorite BP songs like YYY and Hard to Love and Happiest Girl. I think the biggest turning point with BP will be their Third Album when they resign or choose another company. I believe the member will push for changes with how things are run for their group. I pretty much think that most blinks think that ready for love is meh. It should have never been in this album maybe even just save it as a throw away addition for a "deluxe version". The frustrating thing is we KNOW that they have made more songs where the members wrote like the one with Ryan Tedder but for some reason YG refuses to release more than 8 songs. I think shutdown shows that they are closing a chapter in their career (referencing their old MV and shutting it down) so we will see what happens when they release their next album.
@bangtanpinkforever212 жыл бұрын
I think they will resign. Mark my words, they will resign 1000%sure. In shut down, it shows they are ending their old era and starting a new one because at the end all the members leaves the garage were there old mvs are placed and goes to new garage, which means this is not the end for Blackpink. Stay positive, they won't disband.

I actually really like ready for love as I prefer it to pink venom (though I like it too) and the whole album is great imo. Love every song. But yeah YG is seriously doing them dirty. They should have over a 100 songs by now, but YG limits them to only 8 songs an album. Even a 4th gen group like Stray Kids has more songs. They probably have so many unreleased songs, I can’t imagine them not being frustrated with YG. But considering it’s YG, it’ll probably be a while before they release a third album. The girls deserve better, they are so freaking talented but are not given enough songs to prove it. YG should also let them have more involvement in writing their songs instead of relying on Teddy so much. Jisoo and Rosé can write good lyrics as evidenced by yeah yeah yeah.

What will always stop me from liking Blackpink are the lyrics and the previsibility in the song writing. And it's kinda a shame because I feel like they've got some good things to them that I would really enjoy. I do love good lyrics, and the problem with Blackpink is their songs are always or a love song, or a "watch me, I'm famous, beautiful and rich and you want to be me" song. And the fact that even in those categories of song, the lyrics aren't good compared to other songs with the same themes... And I'm tired of them always using random onomatopoeias. They should stop. Really. No more ratatata rampampam, please. Then the previsibility. When I listen to Blackpink songs I'm never like "oh, this was unexpected". I always see what's coming next. Being previsible isn't bad, per se. It's bad when it's always the case. Globally, I just feel like I'm too old for them. I'd love to see them do something a bit more mature, but I don't think that's going to happen. At least not in the following years.

I know that a lot of songs sound similar and stuff and would also love if they try to experiment more but the songs they do still pretty good. Like no other girl groups will make this type of songs better than them because it's just right on their alley, that's just the Blackpink essence. I feel this album it's so well balanced, it has the right amount of blank and the pink. With Ready for love I totally agree with you. I like the song after listening to it more times but it feels like it kind of shouldn't be really part of the album (even if it tells an story) Anyways, I'm not sure yet if it's my favorite album but it's really good and definitely give us a little bit of fresh air and THEIR VOCALS IMPROVED SO MUCH! 👏🏻 We were waiting for 2 years and I couldn't be more happy that they are here again. I agree with maybe 80-85 percent of your points, especially the lyrics.. I wish that they'd start going with non repeating lyrics (HTL seem to be on that track, with a very fun, smooth delivery instrumentally and vocally) because as they've shown here they can write well enough, repetition is a fast shortcut for the songs to get dated quickly, which works against them since they take much needed longer hiatuses. Appreciate the fair criticism of the album, especially considering the story arc from the first song to the end (which many reviewers missed). Overall, the album is good even if you see it at the context of BP discography. I think the songs overall are a mature step-up from their previous work, in a sense that the minimalism or subtlety lend to how easy you can listen to this album. I personally love Yeah Yeah Yeah, as it is an easy bop same, especially as it comes back to back with Hard to Love. Those are my two personal favorite tracks in this album. I totally agree that Ready for Love is the weakest of the set and could have been replaced with a stronger ending.
