@@chrisc1184 - Interesting point about not telling the whole story. From the very beginning I have been hoping that some news outlet - preferably Korean - would do just that: conduct a thorough exposee on the 2020 incident, with detailed coverage of BOTH sides of the story. There have been and continue to be too many points that are ignored, glossed over, or sensationalized. This would not be a quick 30 minute sound bite. It would probably be a multi-part mini series at the shortest. But it would be based on facts. That would be refreshing. For the reporting that I have in mind, it would probably be way too expensive for DKDKTV to produce. I am grateful for the coverage on Sam Okyere and other topics that they have provided. Too many other channels just mindlessly parrot whatever is out there. Danny and David actually take the time to investigate and try to present both sides. And that is appreciated. They also get a LOT of heat for not going with the flow. I respect what they do, even if I don't always agree with the point of view given. The reason why Sam probably got so much hate (and is still getting hate), is due to the fact he hit a nerve with Korea. He highlighted racism which is often ignored and swept under the carpet. He held a mirror up to society and called people out on racism, so instead of addressing the issues of racism within the country , they proverbially attacked the messenger ie Sam. He said some unpalatable truths and they are still punishing him for it. As one of very few black entertainers based in Korea it must be very lonely when you get attacked for calling out racist behaviour.

So would you consider, "once you go black, you can't go back" a racist statement then? But yet Sam replied it with "Preach." Do explain that one. And before you reply, I want to state that please don't just overuse the term "racism" and carefully look at its history and origin. Also there's a huge difference between racism (that is based on hate about other race) and prejudice (that based on ignorance/experience/perception about other race).
@Leviathiccness2 жыл бұрын
@@YCHTT ok first, "once you go black you never go back" isn't racist. It's a stereotype. A positive one but a stereotype all the same. He didn't do anything wrong by saying preach to that comment. Second, what these Korean kids did was not cultural appreciation or a stereotype or anything like that. Blackface has nothing but root causes in racism. Just like if someone who is white or black or Hispanic wanted to dress up as an Asian person and decided to paint their skin yellow and tape their eyes back would also be wrong.
@Leviathiccness2 жыл бұрын
Sam never should have been cancelled in the first place. He was right to call out something that was MOST DEFINITELY wrong. Those kids never should have worn blackface. Period. It would be just as offensive if a bunch of kids of other races taped back their eyes and painted their skin yellow when dressing up. What was suspect was that everything he EVER said or did only got dredged up AFTER Sam called out the teenagers for wearing Blackface. This includes a couple of years prior when both he and Sam Worthington (the Australian chef) called out a TV show where the comic relief was a Korean actress who wore Blackface and dressed up with a bone necklace and items to make fun of Africans. No mention of Sam's past transgressions then. It was only when Sam made the mistake of not following 'protocol' with the teenagers that all the vile, hostile, over-the-top racist comments and threats were unleashed. And the vitriol was not limited to just Sam, either. Anybody who dared to show support for him publicly became targets as well - Koreans and non-Koreans alike. The haters actually tried to destroy him. And most people seemed OK to stand by silently and watch. So much for being the most famous Black man in Korea... What was leveled at Sam was far, FAR beyond tit-for-tat. It was raw, uncontained, bare racist mobbing. At this point, I am amazed that Sam would still want to be in Korea. If anything, this has demonstrated that regardless how close and 'at home' Sam might feel about Korea, the feeling is not mutual. Not the same as entertainment network executives who work for the same channels repeatedly doing racist 'comedy'. If Sam was such a horrible, terrible person, why didn't that incident get him canned then, 6 years ago when it happened? What several others pointed out may well be true: the public would rather fixate on his not following protocol than deal with the repeated acts of racism that Sam was calling out. Sam is not perfect. No one, and especially not Sam, ever even insinuated that he was. But that does not invalidate the issues that he was talking about. And many people believed it as the truth, without bothering to cross check with the original video and spreaded these fake claims further. The commotion from this non-event went silent after the original video came out and easily proved that this was all fabricated. Also, the key witnesses went public and told the truth. Also, two members, one of each group, went on a date to silence these people and show that the friendship between the groups is very strong. There is no other historical references to Black Face other than that, and to even bring up cultural appropriation shows how blind you are to what the very definition of racism is and that your education on Black history is extremely poor. The speculation and guessing about imagined "dissing" of certain groups is amusing. But it remind me of that saying: "A guilty person flees when no one is pursuing." Basically, it just means that someone who is guilty of something is constantly interpreting everyone else's words and actions as accusations. So if fans of a group are interpreting those things in BP's song as being a "diss" against their group, it means that they're overly conscious of the very weakness that they think is being dissed. Because BP never said anything about the group. All they did is make a general statement that could apply to a thousand things other than the group in question. Actually, it would be hilarious (and very hip-hop) if the alleged "dissing" turned out to be real. But it really seems like a stretchy stretch that is stretchier than most.

Does ÆSPA needs to be mentioned every time Blackpink is involved? This is kinda annoying and is a level of obsession that needs to be stopped. It’s funny that the ‘dissing’ theory was founded by Blinks but they make it look like MYs became self conscious and are butthurt over hearing the lyrics. MYs don’t know and don’t care about it in the first place. Most of all, are Blackpink members and their producer, Teddy himself bothered by the rumors that ÆSPA is copying Blackpink and try to ‘diss’ them in a hip hop genre song? If that’s true, isn’t it a little childish and maybe a little disrespectful towards their co idols and juniors? I hope and believe that’s not the case! Blackpink is successful enough not to diss somebody else to gain attention. Besides, every idea has a root you don’t own. If someone is blatantly copying the designs, sets, styling and everything, you could sue them instead of dissing them. Blinks’ interpretation of the lyrics only worsened the situation between the fandoms and eventually, it almost seems like a smear campaign against ÆSPA, making more Blinks daring and ruthless against ÆSPA in their attacks. I believe that Blackpink didn’t mean it to happen. Besides, Blackpink will not diss anyone for lip-syncing. Lip-syncing is the company’s decision, not the idol’s. ÆSPA has very powerful live vocals that are proven time and time again. Anyone denying that is either stupid, delusional or is one-sided. No matter if it’s a hip hop song or not, the dissing towards a junior group, which by the way have been hated for very little reasons, like Blackpink themselves, is not a behavior Blackpink or their producer will actually do.

It's so interesting to me that Koreans get so up into celebrities' business. If some American celebrity made the same accusation on their social media, the police would definitely NOT investigate. Unless someone calls 911 and reports a crime, police don't do anything. Random netizens calling the police and telling them to something would get told to mind their own business. Also, Danny and David, you missed your calling to be soft core porn producers.

Actually according to studies hard drugs are most often taken by highly intelligent people that are born into poverty. Something about the escape from reality is more inticing to people who see the world for what it really is, instead of the dumbed down versions of your average person.

It’s so sad that you can’t say that you don’t like the song without being labelled as a hater!! I didn’t like BTS Dynamite and I didn’t like pink venom. Honestly I used to quite enjoy their earlier songs like whistle and kill this love, but now all blackpink songs sound the same to me with shallow lyrics. So basically I am neither getting fresh beat nor some relatable lyrics. It’s always about them bragging about money and other materialistic stuff. I wish they experiment a bit in their new album and cook up some fresh beats or melodies. The only place where they don’t disappoint is high production value in music videos.
