In case of some specific characters (I'm a Disney collector) it would be so difficult almost impossible to achieve their movie accurancy with rooted hair. I mean I LOVE when they have rooted hair but it only works for past-the-shoulder lenght styles. I dont think characters like Eric, Charming, Aladdin etc would look that good if they werent mold haired.

Robson William I’ve seen Disney prince dolls with “hair” and I think they look just fine, and ofcourse there are exceptions for which molded hair may be needed. But for standard boy hair i don’t think it’s needs to be molded, and i personally really don’t like that look. I grew up with caligirl Ken dolls which had hair so i got used to it, I like it on Action Man though but that’s an action figure.

Children no longer play with toys because current toys are all designed for young children. When Monster High came out, many teenagers played with dolls (And there were smarthphones at that time), because they were attractive to teenagers too, the same goes for LOL OMG. When I was a child I still liked toys even after I was 10 years old, however I didn't feel like buying them because all the Hot Wheels tracks and Max Steel figures were boring. (I was born in 2000).

Maybe it's because I'm an adult, but all toys currently on the market seem so uninspired? It's the same, glittery, sparkly rainbow-poop every time. I don't blame current kids for not wanting to play with toys, I probably would've gotten bored really fast with everything that's available in stores right now (not to mention the fact that, at least in my country, physical stores are disappearing rapidly, which makes toy shopping a lot less exciting anyway).

my 7 year old sister HATES when dolls have no articulation. and i remember when i was young, getting frustrated when a doll wouldnt pose like i wanted them to because they lacked articulaton. i understand when companies have to stick to smaller budgets and stuff, but if im gonna pay $15 or more for a doll I WANT ARTICULATION! Ugh especially for the more exclusive dolls, like the ones that come with extra fashion, or playsets like houses and cars, it's just such a dissapointment when they arent articulated. also i just remembered the snapstar dolls that flopped. they costed $12 where i live and they have amazing articulation! although i will say, the hair and clothes feel really cheap.

I love monster high dolls because of their uniqueness. The concept for dolls at the time was unique. Each character has a unique face, body mold and personalized fashion. The quality was really good in the beginning. Yes the joints are definitely delicate but I was always careful. The only thing I dislike is that the plastic stains quickly without any reason. And the quality declined fast after the budget cut for mh. And don't get me started on the reboot. Awful dolls, quality was bad and looked so dull. Movie as well couldn't finish it.

I do admit early monster high’s were flimsy, but this was fixed very early on after Mattel realized the mistake. After the first few releases their arms became more sturdy and tightly fit, and if they became loose it was only from poor handling of letting too young of children keep them when they are clearly for older children and adults. It’s the same way small children lose Bratz shoes very easily. And the elastic joints didn’t last more than the first year of production, this was quickly changed for plastic leg joints that are very sturdy and near impossible to break unless you force it. I have collected Monster High’s since they came out and even then I have only had two early dolls break the elastic but only with frequent handling. If they break it’s mostly the owners fault, not the doll; because even though they weren’t the best, they were still sturdy enough for the audience they should have been aimed towards. No parent should get a 5 year old a doll with tiny jewelry and thousands of choking hazards and clearly fragile parts and expect it to last.
@AshleysAdvice
@AshleysAdvice 4 жыл бұрын
I agree 100%. In my opinion Barbie was targeted more towards younger children as Wellers early teens, where is brats was more in that middle area for 10 to 13-year-olds and wants to high was more for early teens to adults. I started collecting monster high when I was about 14 and continue to collect them until I was about 17 or 18, because I absolutely loved everything they stood for including the movies and TV series, as they reminded me a lot of brats for being more edgy and different compared to Barbie
@Mojukie
@Mojukie 4 жыл бұрын
Ashley Advice right!!! Like Barbie clearly had its own lines made for young children with the very child friendly faces and clothes. Meanwhile Bratz and Monster High always had more adult-like faces and fashion such as mini skirts and crop tops. Even in the Monster High show they went into topics such as acne, racism, cheating, prison, and things just clearly not for children while Barbie always kept a pretty perfect fantasy world clearly for younger audiences. Because of that barbies clearly hold up better because they are made for it, meanwhile Monster High was meant for easy handling and more display than play based before the reboot so basing them on durability isn’t really fair when 99% of the breakage comes from small children outside their intended audience. It’s why I also never understood the whole “Karen Kills” situation of it and parents thinking they were too scary for young children when Mattel knew that and didn’t make it for them? It’s like saying a horror movie is too scary for a child when they shouldn’t be watching it anyway.
@AshleysAdvice
@AshleysAdvice 4 жыл бұрын
Yes, exactly! While Barbies movies are good they’re more targeted towards younger children, with not much of a plot or character development, while monster high movies Are more entertaining, with more thought out character development and plot that make them enjoyable for all ages as well as Still being appropriate for younger audiences and just scary enough for anyone who still get scared by horror films.

It's complicated because it's a licensed property. Winx, like the magical girl genre in general, has always had issues finding footing in America. They got lucky back then, but let's be honest, even back in '04-'06 the series and dolls were never marketed to their full potential in the states. Because North American companies have made it clear time and time again that they don't care about Magical Girls, the chances of it coming back and securing a TV airing deal that doesn't suck is slim.

Articulation on a doll should be ESSENTIAL. Elbows and knees MINIMUM. Like the 90's up to mid-2000's. I personnaly Prefer the articulation with the screws because I am a doll customiser and you cant paint on rubber legs. Even when I was a little girl I adored articulated dolls they were always my favorite to play with. I was happy when I had a new barbie then EXTATIC when I found out she also had articulation. Hair can be short but has to be good quality, and not too often because barbie must first have really long hair. Dont always have to be ankle lengh but once in a while thats nice too. As for bratz my favorite line was the 10th aniversary reboot because it has modern clothes that matched eachother with few jarring patterns and smaller, RESONABLE size shoes. Dolls MUST have a variety of skin tones and body sizes its called being progressive and evolving as a compagny tho dolls frozen in awkard poses are called figurines not dolls so I agree on that one hahaha XD L.O.L O.M.G faces are....ok. They are cute. Its more for the fashions and overall awesome quality of the doll although there is rather a few of them wich I find too tacky or jarring (very original tho, give them that) I own a few Monster Highs about 20+ my second hands for customization plus a few EAH and I have to say I had to reroot my Maddie Hatter because of glue that oozed out of the skull plus early MH articulation can be a bit of a mess but they were never meant fort little little kids anyways🤷and overall had Excellent quality anywere near the garbage reboots EAH and MH.

2009 was the last great year for Barbie, with the whole 50th anniversary "My Favorite Barbie" line. Sad reality is kids are more into Tech than playing imagination with barbie. The 21st century version of playing Barbies is the Sims. Mattel should know by now that Barbie's main demo is adult collectors, and they should cater more to us considering we're willing to spend our hard earned cash on their recent "flops" imo. I feel like we're being ignored. After all they're just a company, but many people have been loyal to Barbie since 1959, and it's sad this is the quality is far beyond from where it started, must less their 90's quality clothing (it was still pretty good quality then even with Velcro). Painted, and molded on outfits, ugh...

I myself am not to keen on bend and snap legs on Barbie or any doll line for that matter. It was better in the 60s, 70's and 80s but after that you were lucky if the knees would click more than twice and after awhile the knees would stop bending altogether. And lets face it, it's a nightmare getting tight fitting clothes over bendy legs. Also children are less tempted to chew on them if the plastic is harder.

Mattel's true reason...is because of what used to happen to 80s and 90s dolls over time. Have you ever held an 80s doll with sticky leg syndrome? That's plasticine leaking out. The stuff that keeps those rubber legs flexible. Once it's all seeped out and been washed off or worn off with play, those bend and snap knees no longer bend and snap without cracking the rubber, but beyond that, do you really want a kid playing with a doll that has chemicals leaking out of her legs?

I mean it's a bit of a stretch, yes these dolls have had these issues before but that problem has been solved in the 00s. There are still dolls getting made right now that have bend and snap legs, it's clearly Mattel just wanting to produce as cheap as possible and not about chemicals.

@@fightthefairy I am an adult collector, just so you know. But we assume adult collectors are intelligent enough not to put Barbie's feet in their mouths and to wash their hands after handling dolls with 'sticky stuff' on their legs. We don't assume that about a four or five year old. As for the plasticine leakage being "fixed" in the 00s, I'm honestly only going by what I've been told/found online/noticed in my own childhood dolls. I might be wrong, but I was fairly sure there was an actual reason for the change.

I don't mind stiff collector dolls like silkstones and older model muse because their appearance makes up for it. They have presence, prettier faces and nicer clothes, and I like to display them. But when it comes to playline, give me ALL the articulation, otherwise they look paralyzed and cheap, which they are, but posing them helps.

As a child and into my mid teen years I loved brats and monster high over Barbie because they were different. When it comes to the quality of monster high and the flimsy limbs I think it depends on the dolls they got better over time before the reboot. As for Bratz I loved it that they had the bending knees that snapped because It meant that the clothes were easy to put on but you could also sit them down and stuff like that which was great for playing with them or posing them
@shdwstrm
@shdwstrm 3 жыл бұрын
I do agree with the moulded hair. Rooted hair does not act like real hair and in order to create shorter hairstyles, it basically needs to be glued into shape as the rooted hair will not sit in those styles no matter how much you boil wash or do anything to the hair. If the hair fiber quality was better than it may stand a better chance. So since it has to be glued down to maintain the style.... there really isn’t much difference between having that or moulded hair. It’s stuck in that style and if you try to do anything with it, you ruin the hair.

Some Barbie fashionista dolls clothes are for the most part tacky nowadays. Agree with the omg dolls. The faces is the reason why I would most likely never get them. Children give-up toys by around eight years of age. They're exposed to mature things way too early and they're not allowed to just be children and play with toys - that's modern society's fault! I love what people call "bend and snap" ( I hate that term!! ) joints! My all-time favorite dolls are "Living Barbie and Living Skipper" I like the idea of a "skeleton" covered by a "skin", so you don't see the joints. Sort of realistic. Although I love the pose-ability and articulation, I hate the aesthetic of made-to-move, ball-jointed, and other similar dolls. They look like robots or look like they're all broken-up. I hate it!

Bratz are totally still relevant. The Kardashian's make up looks, plastic surgery, plus the lip filler bandwagon EVERYONE jumped on is based on Bratz esthetics (ex giant lips). Maybe it's subconscious, and a seed was planted when kids played with them, then grew up and forgot about it; but our beauty icons of today all look like Bratz to me.

To me it feels like dolls cater more towards parents and what they feel is appropriate as to opposed to what a kid actually wants. Once a kid starts to grow they dont want to play with baby toys. That was part of the appeal of barbie and bratz back then. They dressed more grown up and kids could act out dramatic lives and pretend their grown. Nowadays Barbie has cheap or molded clothes, and little to no accessories, which parents love because they have less to clean up, but it's less for the kid to play with and feels more like something their baby sibling would play with.

Okay, I’m going to put my opinion on all these doll opinions, so this comment might be a bit long. Plus, I got even more doll news! Before I put my opinions though, I just wanna say I’m sorry I haven’t followed you on Instagram, I would love to talk about doll stuff with you, but I don’t have an Instagram account, I only have Facebook, and KZbin. Okay, now for my opinions. For the Bratz comment, I can’t really say, I have never owned a Bratz doll in my life, my mom never let me, and I haven’t seen them in stores, I definitely might try to get one on eBay or something. 2. Everything Barbie has put out in the last 7 years has sucked. I agree but I don’t agree, I love the Fashionista’s and some of the new dolls, I mainly just hate the dolls with the painted on clothes. 3. Barbie must have long hair always. I disagree, I actually really want to see Barbie with a pixie cut like me, and I love some of the short hair dolls. 4. The comment about the bodies. I disagree, I love the curves, petite, and all the body types. 5. All Barbies should have elbow and knee articulation. I totally agree. Articulation makes them way more fun to play with, but I also don’t mind the rubber type bend and snap knees ( I think that was another comment) 6. Ken’s molded on hair. I’m so used to Ken’s and Disney guys molded on hair that I really don’t mind it. 7. Okay, might have to make another comment later with more opinions . ( family coming over) but first my doll news. My friend who is sending me all the vintage dolls decided to surprise me, and they also sent me a package with several Disney Prince dolls including, Kristoff, Prince Naveen, Prince Charming, Prince Adam ( Beast, from Beauty and the Beast) and my favorite Prince Florian.( from Snow White) and Prince Florian came with all 7 dwarves! So yes, I am super excited! Also, my sister ordered me a Disney Fairies doll, Rosetta. 😁 so yeah, I’m getting a bunch of dolls!

I always found their style and fashion so creative and different so I was drawn to them more than any other type of doll. I absolutely love how articulate they are and as a kid I never found that same articulation with a Barbie doll. I agree that There was a big issue with the original dolls leg joints because they used elastic and they fell apart incredibly easily but once enough people realized how fragile they were, the dolls switched to have plastic to connect the legs instead of elastic and I had no issues with the dolls falling apart after that.

I agree Barbie in the past 7+ years has really really gone down but I think all they really need to do is bing that 90s quality to their current line of body sizes. if we had twist and turn and bendable leg Fashionstias they wouldn't seem nearly as cheep. also the hair quality in general has gone down! I love the various styles we r seeing now i just wish the hair didn't feel as cheep as it does currently. and i also agree with u about the "super thin" body mold. there's more than enough "thin" barbies on the market we don't need them all to stay one size! also i don't like the dolls that permanently stand contra posto. i know they r for display purposes only but when i was a kid i NEVER gave a shit about weather a doll was a "collector" doll or not. in 95 i saved up $50 and went and got a Dorothy Barbie from Toys R Us and played with her till i didn't play with dolls anymore, she didn't owe me a god damed dime! so the little boy inside me sees these weirdly posed dolls and thinks ew i can only do so much with this doll in play...(just to clarify i do not "play" with dolls any more but i collect to build their clothes and structures. she's an art form for me) but still the permanent pose rubs me the wrong way.

My unpopular doll opinions • LOL/OMG and Lalaloopsy dolls are *not* creepy. They are unique approaches to the fashion doll and I like their kawaii aesthetics. • There need to be more made to move dolls of "strong" female characters or female superheroes. In my opinion the DC Superhero Girls and the Luisa doll from Encanto should've had tons of articulation for action poses as these characters are always "on the move." • Flavas (2002) are not ripoffs of Bratz and are *HIGHLY* underrated • The Disney Princess line from Mattel should be more diverse. Where's the Mulan, Pocahontas, Merida, and Raya dolls?! And would Leia and Anastasia count nowadays since Disney now owns these characters?

I feel like my kids love articulation but that I dont.. I feel like joints in elbows, wrist, etc make the doll look too jointy and more of a toy than a doll. I love smooth barbie legs and arms without the joints. I also like the idea of skinny and curvy barbies. Curvy was once accepted in Renaissance and Greek era as shown in paintings such as Rubens. So curvy was art then and can be now. Skinny should be OK too as some people are just naturally tall and skinny. I don't like day to day looking barbies though and prefer ones that bring out my fantasy with princesses, beautiful clothes, extra long hair, etc. So I want dolls that aren't day to day for my imagination.

True , Barbie has had some pretty disappointing lines, but collector dolls are still high quality and extraordinary...but yes, articulation and removable clothes are the best when it comes to the other lines! Bend and snap knees were the best 💕, although the model muse body barbies are really great !

Can I just admit that I only like certain dolls myself but I would never have a go at someone if they liked a doll line that I don't personally like. I loved Pedigree Sindy of the late 70s/ 80s because she was my childhood doll but I was never a fan of the Hasbro version of the late 80s/ 90s not just because I didn't grow up with her but also I was at that age where I was far too grown up for dolls then, I since changed that. I preferred My Scene Barbies to Bratz but again because I just liked the My Scene more but if you like Bratz, then go ahead. I loved Monster High because I loved the concept of them and I grew to love Ever After High too. I like the idea of Wild Hearts Crew dolls but sadly they are not available in the UK. Recently I have made My Scene Barbies all made to move along with a long hair Ken just because he has rooted hair.
