100% agree on your take with consumerism and sustainability. Of course we should be making more responsible decisions with our waste, but putting that massive burden on yourself (and potentially others) isn't healthy when a majority of the problem is major companies being cringe basically. Basically just do whatever you can when you can lol

It surprises me that there are still places where you can't recycle (so cardboard and plastic go in the same bin as well?) But that's 100% the city, state, country their responsibility. That's not on the consumer in ANY way. So I think the people responsible really need to step up because being able to recycle isn't anything new and should be the standard everywhere possible...

Totally agree with the person who wishes for more dolls with alternative style! That's why I'm so glad Bratz is continuing to do repros, especially of lines like Pretty n Punk! I check to see if they're out almost every day 😅 The begoth dolls are my grails omg 😭 Also love the living dead fashion victim dolls!

This was fun. The G1 v G3 opinions were expected. 😅 I appreciate how you highlighted the strengths of both without bashing either. As for RH character model, I prefer that to how MH does it. While character repeats are OK, I definitely prefer having a lot of different characters (with occasional repeats) vs 20 versions of the same character. And I feel like MH can get in a rut where they laser focus on the main characters a lot instead of giving others some time to shine. Great video, would be fun to hear more! 😁

I agree about all the different versions of the same character. I'm already tired of seeing Frankie and I only own two. They just are not different enough, especially poor Clawdeen who only has what, two face screenings that are nearly identical? And only a few of them have hair that's actually styled. At least give the dolls unique makeup or expressions between each release!

Lots of fun and totally understandable opinions here! Gonna rant with a few of mine lol don't mind meeee Personal peeves I would've sent in for this video had I seen the option: RH not giving us the fully articulated body for EVERY collector edition after Jett Dawson is a ridiculous choice and I will hold a grudge unless they fix it. Especially since we've seen that the factory uses the full articulated bodies for prototypes!! It gives her so many more pose options that I'm looking at my other dolls with less enthusiasm now. Just one release with chest and ankle joints that weren't even advertised on the box is super weird. WTF, MGA? And Barbie making cheapy t-shirt dresses in fashion packs to make them "one size fits all" is such a cop out imo. They could just make a wider panel of Velcro or use snap buttons that can alter the shape of the outfit if they refuse to make separate packs for different bodies. As for fashionistas: I really appreciate their diversity, especially with disabilities and skin tones, but I also feel like they could do even better based on how long the line has been going on. Like there's still no tall AND plus size female option, very few muscular women, and it's still pretty lacking in male diversity. I appreciate that there's a few more muscular and thinner guys, but there's hardly any height changes and none of them are what you'd call plus sized. It's a frustrating double standard, but I do have hope that they'll eventually get there! I would love a short plus sized Ken :') I think LOL OMG doesn't get enough credit for how much alt fashion it incorporates into its line. Moonlight BB is the closest to trad goth I've ever seen in a mainstream line, and there are several cyber/punk/general street fashion dolls. They also have some of the ONLY interesting male dolls on the market. Even if their faces aren't great, the dolls are consistently much more edgy than they're acknowledged for and they sell well! Why aren't more lines doing this? Why isn't MGA doing this for RH??? We deserve more interesting shoes! RH has a few cool ones for sure, but they're totally ignoring a bunch of more unique designer shoes that could easily be translated into RH scale instead of more boring strappy heels. No platform stompy boots yet, like really? I understand the sentiment about glasses, but the only time I have ever personally said "this doll looks nerdy" was when G3 Clawdeen came out. It wasn't just her glasses, it was her entire base doll that's styled to be "hipster nerd" and that still frustrates me. Why not give normal glasses to a glamorous character? And why make Clawdeen's the super chunky "dad glasses" that dwarf her eyes and hide her face?? Maybe someday they'll wise up and make accessory packs that'll include glasses alongside much needed jewelry.

fairy and mermaid dolls are sooo not overrated imo they're over-infantalized and targeted more towards toddlers than doll collectors. it's only of late that we got mermaze and mermaid high that were more fashion-orientated and still those lines got/ are getting cancelled :(

I think a lot people also forget that MH G1 was also a reflection of the fashion of the time. Of course, G3 looks different from G1, kids don't dress that way anymore. I love G1 as much as the next older GenZer, but when I look at it the first thing I think is: "Yeah, that's early 2010". It's not a bad thing, but well fashion changes quickly. I think this is another example of nostalgia affecting people's opinions.

i'm a new collector to Monster High, so G3 is all I know and I'm OBSESSED!! i can't wait for skulltimate secrets 1 & 2 to come out and monster ball! they're designs are sooo cohesive and inclusive. and we love the taiwanese representation with draculaura !! (even tho they aren't in stores yet here in taiwan, lol). i've been able to get the signatures (minus the walmart and target exclusives) and creepover from amazon and i am 100000000000% in love.

RH has very similar proportions to Pullip and Blyth dolls. People have loved those for a while, so it's not like there wasn't already a market for this type of doll. Yes, to the sustainability issue. RH needs to do better with packaging. There's a lot of plastic in those boxes, and most plastic isn't recycled.

I love some of g1 & g3 monster high; it just depends on the dolls. My issues with RH/SH is that I’m so tired of mini skirts. It seems like that’s all they do except for occasional mermaid with more dressy dolls. Not all girls wear tight mini skirts. I would like to see different skirts/dresses. Skaters, fit n flare, historical. I’m a big fan of historical costumes. I also don’t like the boy dolls because they all look like they are between 5-8 yrs old. High school boys don’t have baby faces except for rare exceptions. I want more mature looking boys & more variety of hairstyles. The only boy doll I’m considering is Rex because he doesn’t look quite as young and I want to try and figure out how to give him dreads. Even if you don't root them, it shouldn't be too difficult to give him dreads if you get a high quality yarn! You should be able to look up some videos of doll customizing and find how others have done it. That's something I really want to do too!

I think ppl are too harsh about g2 personally like. Yes, they had less articulation. Yes, a lot of the outfits are the same bland shape. But for me personally, the strongest point of g2 that has me wanting these dolls is the SHOES. The outfit may be horrendous, but the shoes could be so so cute and actually easier to put on and take off than g1 and g3 shoes. Also, there was only one gimmick doll that absolutely slay’d to me and that is Dayna Jones. She has amazing quality for a gimmick doll!! Full articulation, unique design, I have two of her and I’m absolutely in love.

Yeah I actually agree with this. The shoe game was still up..but honestly the MH was built on a standard of good fashion,full articulation and the shoe game and them some...so taking away what made the first Gen so loved is why Gen 2 didn't really get the love especially when...they weren't really trying with the outfits I would give the basic dolls and the shrick wrecked dolls a pass tho.

can i toss one in? Collectors love to say "but we arent the target audience!" But with brands like Mattel that have been doing collector dolls for so many years- Id say they are! The new My First Barbie line is for 3-4 year olds. Anything above tht? They know adults are buying. Yes dolls are "meant" for kids. However with the internet being what it is- these brands know that they dont need heavy advertisement when they have internet communities to thank for word spreading about their product like it does by adult collectors. Take Bratz for example- arguably they are now an adult collector item despite still being on the same toy shelf. Monster high too- these brands are banking on nostalgia because it pays.

I'd just like to add another perspective on the rainbow high price increase - people probably already brought it up, but the price increase is bad news for those of us not in america. People say "oh shadow high series two had less stuff, yeah, but it was only 25 dollars!" in my country they're retailing for $60 and upwards. special edition dolls like the rainbow vision dolls etc cost even more. buying a RH doll is a COMMITMENT

Monster High had amazing quality of design, But the actual fabric and paint details of the dolls aren’t the best.. i think with the Rainbow High vs Monster High debate really comes down to your preference of Realism or Fantasy… Monster High was so good because of the unique concepts, Characters, And unrealistic fashions, the molds weren’t painted, But they’re so beautifully detailed and specially made for each doll with references to their monster species But if RH had g1 MH quality, I don’t think I’d be collecting them, Because it would be boring clothes with lacking detail. What makes Rainbow high so good is how detailed the outfits are, sewn buttons and metallic zippers, Fabric shoes and realistic textiles, It makes them stand out while still being somewhat realistic, while monster high didn’t need to meet the same quality standards, Because it’s already such a good and unique brand on its own Hopefully that made sense, It’s just my thoughts

I love the ears! Very informative & enjoyable video. I kind of missed out on the g1 Monster High dolls, and most of the g2 dolls, but I am really enjoying g3 (I didn't think I would). I bought all the creeproductions except for Clawdeen because she just didn't vibe with me; I have a g2 one that I love though. THEN g3 Clawdeen came out and she is now one of my favorites! Who knew? I'm an 80's brat, so I grew up with all those Barbie dolls with the bright blue eyeshadow & bend/snap knees, and Fashion Fever dolls, so the fashionistas are very different from what I'm used to. But I do like (& own) some of them. At this point in my life, if I like it, I get it. If I don't, I don't get it. I mostly go for dolls with long, gorgeous hair to brush and style. Doll collecting doesn't have to be so serious, unless you want it to be. I have 'met' so many collectors on youtube and love watching videos about their collections. Yours is very impressive and BEAUTIFUL. Great video. Thank you. 💐💐💐

There is sooo much nostalgia goggles with G1!! But I wasn’t really into MH G1 until they were on their way out so maybe if I had been, I’d have nostalgia goggles too. I don’t really understand why RH Series 5 is a few dolls more than SH Series 2 when it seems like the same doll and accessory count. I love Barbie Fashionista, I had Barbies as a kid but I don’t remember the articulation that much-I guess it wasn’t really a factor in my play so I’m fine with Barbie Fashionistas as they currently are. If people want goth dolls, I recommend Living Dead Dolls-they generally only have 5 points of articulation but they are definitely more goth!

Perhaps it's just because I'm in a few alt subcultures, G1 MH never got it right lmao. The clothing was fun, sure, but I would not call it a good or even decent representation of the subcultures they tried to tackle. I sound so mean here, but that point frustrates me to no end. Please don't get me wrong, I _love_ MH, but they're making a costume out of these subcultures, not representing them with respect or sincerity.

Doll packaging in 00s was way more environmental friendly than it is now. I clearly recall that MGA and Mattel used to use threads instead of plastic pins (I don't the correct naming of those plastic fasteners) to hold dolls in-place inside of boxes. Mattel's boxes in 90s and 00s contained more paper elements than the plastic ones. Also mostly boxes used to be smaller. I wish such companies as MGA and Mattel could use more recycled paper or plastic elements. My kinda unpopular opinion that mostly MH g1 dolls are actually bad dolls. They have tacky outfits made from cheap materials, have glue seepage issue, their bodies are made from cheap plastic because it breaks easily and get discolored very fast even if you store dolls in shady room. Also a lot of dolls have misprinted faces, or by default their face print is wonky (Cleo's and Lagoona's eyes are hilarious).

This opinion probably is very unpopular but I don't like the OMG dolls (except maybe ones with proportions similar to the tweens) The really small ones you get in bubbles look like toddlers, but often are dressed in the way that makes them look inappropriate or uncanny Then there are the ones with curvy adult type bodies which don't match with their faces in my opinion It feels like they're kinda trapped between ages (appearance wise) and design Another opinion that might be not so unpopular is that I have a hard time trusting doll reviews of PR-packages. Often you see those reviewers praising very meh dolls to high heaven and I think a review is less genuine from the point of someone who hasn't invested money into the product. At least for me actually investing something makes you more critical of what you get. Plus, I don't know if some people might be too nice to really critique something that was a gift

My unpopular RH opinion is that I’m fine with rh removing second outfits for accessories like laptops and makeup cause it’s a kids brand, I always wanted rh to have toys like that. I just wish Rh wasn’t so pricey, I think that’s ridiculous. I really like g3 Mh so far, I wasn’t really into mh growing up but I did have one doll. I can’t wait for the new mh dolls to come out, they look so beautiful and I prefer their new body types to the old ones so much. Great video ❤

My unpopular opinion is if someone can afford to buy a ton of playline dolls they can technically afford bjd lol naw but like seriously I think it's just a preference between the two and that's completely fine! But if anyone does want to buy bjd you can easily buy a legit doll either second hand from a trustworthy collector or you can use a pay it out service like Klarna or Zip. I paid out an expensive head from a bjd company using Zip and I've bought all my second hand dolls on layaway. It can be done on a budget without resorting to buying counterfeits and it's easier than ever.

So so happy you included my opinions it made my day 🥰. It were the one about glasses and the one about there being too many high heeled shoes. So glad you agree with me tbh. I don't mean it shouldn't be any heels at all, just more variety cause RH/SH especially is so oversatured with heels. Like 80% of my dolls doesn't wear shoes for this very reason (I redress all my RH/SH dolls basically and I do prefer sneakers and boots over heels). The glasses is self explanatory really like I'm so beyond tired of them being associated with being unpretty and/or nerdy. They can be really cool and trendy tbh. Nowadays it's basically a fashion accessory and should be treated as such. I do prefer G3 Monster High tbh, well the dolls at least. Been a fan for a little over 10 years now and watched basically almost every MH content there is, and I also started collecting dolls thanks to G1. Lore wise G1 will always be my favorite ofc, but I can't even begin to describe how much I prefer the new dolls. The bodies are so much nicer (reminds me of G1 DC Superhero girls which I always loved) and the face sculpts and screenings are better as well imo. I agree with you on almost basically everything else as well besides the Bratz dolls. However I can see your point as there are a lot more variety to Bratz in regards to characters, screening, fashion, etc. I just personally don't like their head or body sculpts, always preferred Bratzillaz and My Scene aesthecially.

I definitely agree on wanting more playline anime dolls. Currently super excited about the Bandai Demon Slayer dolls for this exact reason. And the weight and feel of bends and snap knee legs is why I like regular OMGs slightly more than the Fierce dls. 😅

1. When it comes to the cartoons not dolls, I’ll always prefer MLP:FIM/EQ and EAH over MH but MH is slightly better in terms of dolls. 2. MH G3 is fine and people’s angry reactions to it is basically the old angry reactions to Sailor moon crystal season 1 and 2 all over again. 3. I slightly prefer Blythe over Pullip despite not having any of them 4. LOL OMG and Tweens are the only Lols I actually like 5. La Dee Da was a cute underrated line

I’m G3 Monster High all the way. As a kid I was never into G1 Monster High or G2. Now that I’m an adult and collect dolls. Monster High G3 has gotten my attention now. I like the proportions /different body types of G3 Monster high better then G1/G2. I feel like Draculaura and Cleo are killing it with their G3 fashion. I love that Cleo De Nile is really leaning into the more detail ancient Egypt Motif accessories better. I feel like G1 Cleo didn’t play into her being a Mummy that well. Also G3 Draculaura is G3 Draculaura I just love her style what else can I say. This is also controversial but I like Lagoona they just need to fix the paint chipping problem. No generation of monster high is perfect but this is the generation for me :) This is coming for a person who only collects early 2000s-2010s Barbie but I’m getting into G3 Monster high.

My only vice with G3 is is I’m not a fan of Clawdeen’s new hair blend and colors they picked for her I miss her mostly brown hair. In addition I don’t like that some of the dolls have poly hair that’s just not right. I won’t buy the ones with poly hair because I don’t like the texture and I don’t want Mattel to keep making G3 dolls with poly hair.

Personally, I think Gen1 Monster High dolls usually had an amazing basic doll. However, most dolls of the same character later on had really horrendous or underwhelming designs. Meanwhile, Gen3, so far, has had good basic, but every doll after has typically had a design that was just as strong if not stronger than the basic. Also, Gen3 basic Claude, Abbey, Deuce, and Draculaura have superior dolls than their Gen1 basics. I said what I said lol

G1 had many outstanding designs tho, g3 monster ball clawdeen is litrealy inspired by sweet 1600 clawdeen And a lot of the later releases for g3 are really meh tbh, there are really good ones like skulltimate and clawdeen’s monster ball for ex but a lot are just meh or ugly , I really don’t like the green skin on deuce it’s too much green-his little hints of green scales in g1 were good enough on their own

once you stop resenting g3 monster high for what it’s *not*, you’ll start appreciating it more for what it *is*, which is MONSTER HIGH IN 2023!!! i could have never IMAGINED getting new monster high, i was sure after the reboot crashed and burned it was gone for good. but we’re getting new movies, new dolls, there’s a new show, the alumni releases; it’s such a good time to be a monster high fan right now and if you’re actively avoiding it because you wanted g3 to be g1 part two, you’re doing yourself a HUGE disservice in my opinion.

Unpopular opinion, but if you have your own KZbin channel and it's about your opinion, why in the h*ll do you have to keep apologizing?! There's an option to watch any reviewer that you want. I hate constantly hearing these reviewers apologizing for having a mind, and opinion of their own. As with pretty much everything else these days, the fun has been taken out of doll collecting, and even watching reviews because there's always a particular group that feigns being offended by every d*mn thing. I support your channel because I enjoy hearing your views. There have been a handful, of your reviews, that were not for me, and I find something else. I don't go into your comment section, and throw an all out fit about it. You're doing a great job, keep up the good work.

I see rainbow high as simply a successor for g1 monster high and old bratz + Barbie, all three of these doll lines basically set the standered for fashion dolls , they had similier responses to what RH is having, RH is again just a successor to them it upped their quality even higher Also tbh I’m used to how the RH dolls look, my issue is how they look in the show their just so-ugly their lips make my uncomfortable same with the eyes , they only work as dolls to me personally

Oh yay I had the gimmick comment ❤️🤗. Def when my daughter was 3-6 years old def we fell for gimmicks and enjoyed most but now that she’s 9 years old not so much. She also doesn’t like that omg & tweens only have bend & snap knees instead of better articulation in the knees like G3 MH and RH/SH dolls. I actually have become 1 of those annoying collectors who does really inspect dolls before buying them 😂. Like yesterday I saw 3 Priscilla & 3 Victoria RH dolls at Target and I found defects on all of them. Priscilla it was more on the lips. Whereas Victoria it was in the eye makeup and some of the blushing on the body was in strange spots that made her look stained if that makes sense. I did tell myself not to buy any right now and wait for sales 🤞🤗

As someone who can mostly only buy dolls online, I'm like "Does the doll look decent enough?" and if they don't have blatant flaws, I'm fine with it XD But I guess if I were able to buy them in store, I'd be more picky?

I kind of fell out of love with Rainbow/Shadow High. I think it was one of the "special edition" dolls that made me stop and think "I could get another Diary Queen at that price and not have to deal with potential quality control issues." Plus, something about Lila rubbed me the wrong way (why is it that when confirmed Japanese characters show up in MGA lines, they are always wearing traditional Asian inspired clothing and not modern inspired clothes? Lila wasn't even wearing culturally accurate attire).

Hmmm, the prices of everything has been climbing!! Shopping for food is scary! Why wouldn't the doll prices go up? Unfortunately manufacturers would rather give us less than raise the prices. Do they think we don't notice?

I do know everything is going up in price...my thoughts in general is that a lot of inflation is manufactured. I don't want to give specifics just because I don't really want to share my work history on the internet lol but a store I used to work at raised prices last year while making record breaking profit. So it's not as though (at least some) companies are seeing a loss and raising prices to recover. Again, I know it's not all companies, but I can confirm first hand that at least some places are making a huge profit margin, running with skeleton crews to lower payroll cost to make even more profit, and still raising prices because of "inflation." Basically I think billion dollar and multi million dollar companies should lower their profit margins instead of forcing consumers to keep paying more and more to fund the lifestyles of higher ups.

YES Fully agree on the mermaid and fairy one. I am always excited when another mermaid line is released and then always disappointed. I can see their potential and what they were going for but something always gets goofed allong the way. Like mermaid high had a great concept but wasn't ambitious enough, mermaze had the energy but the list of issues with it is ridiculous and miss Barbara is one of the worst culprits!!! Listen to me. Listent to me. Nori from Fairytopia Mermaidia was a key player in my bi awakening, and I have been disappointed in her doll since 2006. What did they do to my girl. How could they.

I have to agree with Rainbow High having better dolls that MH, but that's not due to designs or fashions. I love the designs and fashions of both, I'm talking about the base dolls themselves. Rainbow High dolls have more articulation, and the dolls themselves are larger and feel a LOT sturdier as a result. As an adult collector, I like the larger scale Because it makes it easier to make clothes for them, and I feel like that also makes them easier for kids to play with them. Edit: I mean the G1 MH dolls. I only have 1 G3 doll (a Draculaura who is going to be customized), and she feels very sturdy and well constructed, nice and durable.

For sure the G1 MH dolls can feel a little flimsy at times, especially with their age at this point! The slightly thicker build and sturdiness is part of what I like about G3 (and RH like you said), it's good to hold a doll and not feel like they could break at any second lol

@@FaeryTaleDolls yeah! The G1 MH dolls are still fantastic, and there's many of them I want, but I truly love the newer direction dolls are going in with sturdier builds. Having worked at a toy store, I tend to notice durability more than some people do, and I feel like these thicker models not only are easier to play with, but they look a bit more realistic too. Overall, everything about the change is a good thing!

I chose not to answer just cuz I'm not sure all of which opinions of mine are unpopular, and I figured unpopular positive opinions wouldn't be as juicy so like saying I like alot of G3 more than g1 may not be saying anything too crazy cuz I can't say definitively that one is truly better as a whole I just like some more than others: which is just literally how opinions work. I kinda agree with the first unpopular statement, rh created a pedestal all its own that brands just don't know what to do with it how to react to Rainbow high overrated? To a point yeah especially now that shadow high keeps slaying them. Proportions gross? No, def not Rh pricing is still actively fluctuating between fair and not. Like sh s2 yes fair. costume ball fair? Fuck no Ever after high DOES have better dolls, like the level of details does blow MH away so in a doll sense there's logic. The ever after high show started off more plot heavy so theres actual plot that draws you in. Where I might take away some points is that ever after high characters are all incredible, but almost all have the same fashion style. MH does truly have more uniqueness and distinction between characters. So like I can see the argument, to me when considering all the parts of each brand they are equal to me I view both in very high esteem. I agree with the articulation comment, the only exception I have is reproduction Bratz just cuz it can't be an accurate reproduction otherwise Fierce candylicious is going to blow fierce out of the water I agree with that comment as someone who was never a fan of the s1 characters and designs there's truth to this comment Liking shadow high more than rainbow high is not controversial lol alot of us do. No I don't think what makes shadow high great is exclusively the greyscale theres way more to shadow high than that and getting all of these spectacular dolls with fantasy skin tones cements that and further proves the creativity sh has. I disagree with collectors needing to lay off becuz "they're not the target" becuz technically MOST of the dolls we collect we aren't the target for, we just appreciate anyways. Now obviously no one needs to go in with hateful comments about these dolls or to those that like them. But if collectors don't like it it isn't just becuz it's "meant for younger kids" younger kids can have great designed toys too. I'd also like to add that G3s "edge" not being here right now doesn't mean it can't go there. Like the most gothic and steampunk styles were made for specific characters we haven't gotten in g3 yet and each draculaura leak keeps going further in that direction so just sit tight. Omg YES I recently discovered the precure dolls and do NOT appreciate the prices after shipping I think in regards to doll feet the best thing they can do is a slightly arched foot and special flat shoes that when worn give the illusion of flat feet while the foot can still fit heels. I think the best example I've seen if this is Lila Yamamoto and her Crocs. Like more of that type of ingenuity please. Also I think core G3 clawdeen is the same way but don't own her so don't know To me the main gimmick of lol omg surprise is the surprise itself. Unboxing the doll and opening the little packages. It's was such a good and unique gimmick that the further they move away from that and do other gimmicks instead is a problem and doesn't land. My fav omg unboxing experiences involved having to dress the doll. I don't think the Bratz are creepy unless you have one with terrible eye wonk. All other opinions I didn't comment on I agree with you and just didn't have anything new to add.

Times are tuff for many people so Marvell dropped the quality of the dolls so that even poor children could afford a doll and because manufacturing cost have risen! It use to be mattel would manufacture in poor country's the workers made 7.00 a week but that was a lot of money for them! Now the workers way higher rates like 10 to 15 a hour so mattel has to charge more for the dolls and producing them at at higher cost and lower gaulity they need to make money to cover the cost of past law suited

I understand that times are tough, and that manufacturing costs have risen. However, I think that the solution is not to lower quality and raise prices. I think that the solution is that big companies like Mattel need to have smaller profit margins. I know that they need to make a profit because that's the whole point of the company, but I think that they would be just fine with a slightly lower profit. A quick Google search told me that the CEO of Mattel has a net worth of around $21.4 million...he's gonna be fine if he makes a little less imo

As for monster high-I disagree with g3 being alt in its own way, they don’t seem to even get why some dolls looked the way they do , clawdeen for example had animal prints in her design as she’s inspired by punk and y2k fashion they weren’t just there cause she’s an animal that’s just what was popular in that fashion style , g3 however just slaps it wherever and as a result-she just looks like a normie obsessed with animal prints The only two who retained some of their alt fashion is draculaura and Frankie but even then their trying to make them more into normies as the line continues Ofc not all of the characters were alt but majority were, not just goth and punk but Lolita and scene too It’s not just cause their monsters, that’s not what made them altarnative sanders himself stated he created monster high after seeing how teen girls were getting into alt fashion, i mean ever after high had some monsters in it too but it’s not altarnative no one argued it’s altarnative same with Novi Stars which had aliens

So imo, regarding Monster High g1 and g3 I think g1 is kinda being under appreciated now. It’s not hard to see why g1 was so popular, it introduced a new style and level of detail and quality, and most of all, good characters. The characters had personality, unlike many doll lines at the time like bratz and Barbie. And of course, the more alternative nature of g1 had many people hooked. I love both generations but atm I’m feeling like g3 is a bit overrated. Like I love the representation so much! It’s very nice to have a doll line with so much of it. But some of the dolls lowkey suck hard but some g3 fans think they’re so cool. Some of these dolls, if they were from g1, would have been heavily heavily hated on. I see more and more people hate on g1 every day, when most of the issues g1 had, g3 shares. Except for the problem of representation. I think we are forgetting that g1 is also years older. We are moving forward with representation and even back then g1 was pretty representative for it’s time. But then I see people say that “g1 stans” are the ones angry about g3 when I’ve been seeing more and more hate on g1. Idk I think we’re just a bit blinded by g3 representation than design and quality because I feel some of the quality and design is bad, if not worse than g1, which it shouldn’t be since we are years later now and should be better. Nonetheless, I am very excited about g3 but I feel like we have had a lot of misses so early on and it kinda makes me a little disappointed. Just my opinion tho so idk

The represention in g3 honestly isn’t any better, for example them making clawdeen light skinned and biracial when she was a brownskinned monoracial Black girl in g1, not to mention how they straight out had lagoona call herself “spicy” and have her nationality change from Colombian in the movie to Honduran in the cartoon even making her act all feral and aggressive when she wasn’t like that in g1 even having her be obsessed with novlas just cause she’s Latina now even tho she’s 16 and novlas are more popular with adults, as a Latino myself it’s extremely uncomfantable it just feels like they throw in any latine caricature they can think of and homogenize the culture-people even pointed out how her monster ball dress is inspired by Spanish dresses which isn’t even in latin America THATS straight out in eroupe It feels like fans praise Mattel for just doing the bare minimium when a lot of the rep in g3 isn’t any better then g1 and at times worst, then making Frankie nonbinary and Twyla autistic doesn’t erase issues such as them hiring a racist director for the movie or hiring a white woman to take care of the racial represention
