That is the perfect word to use for many of her performances. Thank you for expanding my vocabulary ashley, Now I gotta try to work that into my conversations from now on ? It was very difficult to watch your emotional connection to this performance by Angelina, though I felt all that emotion myself...again. Every time I listen to her performance for this concert I am blown away by the utter beauty of her, her voice, the orchestra, this performance. I'm not sure our ears can feel more love than this. The recipient for this year's award was Narges Mohammadi, an Iranian dissident, now in an Iranian prison for her outspoken messages and activism for women's rights. Narges' two twin children spoke on her behalf at this event prior to Angelina's singing. They are Angelina's age and haven't seen their mother in years. She was able to speak with both before her performance. I'm sure this performance was a very poignant moment for Angelina--one quarter Iranian herself, and whose grandmother Mery is full Iranian. I loved everything about this performance, and I loved your reaction. There is so much going on in Angelina's life right now, having just released her EP, "Old Enough", soon to be followed by the LP. And she turns 18 Wednesday. I hope you will start doing more of her new work which matches in quality what you just heard. Please take care.

Many thanks for reacting to this highly emotional performance by Angelina Jordan. Once you understand the backstories, it becomes even more beautiful. I thought "Unchained Melody" was a odd choice for this event, but have since learned the history of the song. More on that later. Certainly Angelina was thrilled to be performing back in her home country of Norway, where she is a national treasure, but this performance goes way beyond that honor. She first performed at the Save the Children event at the 2014 Peace Prize event, when she was 8 years old. Narges Mohammadi was this years' recipient of the Nobel Peace Prize. Narges, is currently on a hunger strike while imprisoned in Iran, for being an activist for women's rights. Her two children spoke on her behalf at this event. Most of the performers were Iranian. We know Angelina's grandmother, Mery Zamani, grew up in Iran and was a prodigy for painting and poetry. We can imagine the conversations Mery had with Angelina about Narges. This performance had to be extremely meaningful to Angelina and her family. I hope all the angels will spread the story of Narges and her mission, with the hope for change. In 1954, Alex North was contracted to compose the score for the prison film Unchained (released in 1955). North had a melody he had written in the 1930s and composed and recorded the score when he was asked to write a song based upon the movie's theme. North asked Hy Zaret to write the lyrics. After first refusing, Zaret and North together wrote "Unchained Melody. Zaret refused the producer's request to include the word "unchained" in his lyrics. The song eventually became known as the "Unchained Melody" even though the song does not actually include the word "unchained". Instead, Zaret chose to focus on someone who pines for a lover he has not seen in a "long, lonely time". "Unchained Melody" comes from the film centered on a man who contemplates either escaping from prison to live life on the run or completing his sentence and returning to his wife and family. So indeed this song fits along with Narges being in prison and her two children, and the rest of the people who embrace freedom, calling for her release.

Please react to some other recent performances from her EP called 'Old Enough', if you already have not done so. Wonderful and sincere reaction to this beautiful performance! Angelina inspires me to do what I can to help make the world a better place, so I am asking all angels and others to spread the story of Narges Mohammadi. Angelina was recorded here at the Nobel Peace prize ceremony in Oslo Norway, performing this beautiful version of Unchained Melody. She paid tribute to Narges, who is currently on a hunger strike while imprisoned in Iran, for being an activist for women's rights. Her two twin children, who are 17, spoke on her behalf at this event. The more people who are aware and call for change, the more likely the leaders of Iran will set her free. Acts of kindness are inspirational, as Angelina always reminds us. We angels, and all others must honor Angelina, and those who represent our values, by doing all we can to help, and be kind to others. Even the smallest gestures can make a difference.

Other 'angels' will tell you all the details about the imprisoned woman. Angelina was magnificent and we were captivated by her performance and what makes her so special is besides her soulful voice which transitions into a form of pure love when we listen to her is WHO SHE IS. Thank you for this reaction. From the very first time I started viewing your reactions, it became obvious to me that you are an extremely sincere, loving and beautiful human being. Your reactions are so heartful, visceral and authentic. Angelina has always had the uncanny ability, more than practically any other singer I have ever known, to wring the maximum emotion out of any song she sings, so it is no surprise that with this magnificent, transcendent performance, she can so easily evoke the type of emotion you displayed. Don't worry, it happens to all of us. But it is even more poignant when you understand the profound significance of this particular performance, and the reasons she poured that massive amount of gentleness, pathos and reverence into it, so much so that it was almost like listening to a prayer. For a wonderful synopsis of the history, meaning and significance of this performance, may I respectfully direct you to the brilliantly and beautifully constructed video by James Thiel: kzbin.info/www/bejne/imfMood5hcp8fJY

So enjoy your reactions to Angelina. You always connect with her emotions. Like all of us, all you can do is sit there and listen. No need to say a word... I’ve been listening to “Unchained Melody” since 1955. Long before the Righteous Brothers covered it in 1965. The song was waiting for this moment and Angelina to come along. Written for a movie where a prisoner is longing for his wife… This is the real deal now. A real tragedy. Angelina is singing for the Nobel laureate. A women’s rights activist who is sitting in an Iranian prison facing 31 years of sentences. She hasn’t seen her family in 9 years. And, they’re sitting there in front of Angelina as she sings... Imagine the emotion… Angelina presents this song softly, delicately and respectfully. A completely different presentation than she did last September in Portsmouth. She could have easily sung the song and the ending with more power. But, she was delivering a message of loss and longing to loved ones who were right there with her. Absolutely the right artist, in the right place at the right moment.

I love the way Ms. Jordan can transport us to the remembrances of the past, but let's not forget that this young living legend is a contemporary, a masterclass artist that is continuing to experiment with tone and technique to create a newness in music, that will dominate world music for decades to come. It will be Ms. Jordan's creativity in lyricism and musicality, that will captivate the world in the coming years. Rb

Thank you, Deadgrl Superstar! It's SO nice to FINALLY see one of my favorite reactors again! I don't know where everyone else went, but LOTS of "newbies" reacting lately! There's a longer version (13:29) which includes a brief history of Alfred Nobel from whom the Peace Prize got its name, the story behind Narges Mohammadi, the female Iranian human rights activist who was awarded the Prize this year while she is in prison for standing up for women's rights in Iran (and abolishing the death penalty), and her twin 17 year old children who accepted the award for their mother. At the end of her performance, Angelina says, "Oh my goodness, please, I don't want you guys to cry when you hear it, but, you know what? We'll cry together because I was so emotional. Like all this love, I was just breathing it in, I was just like inhaling it. It feels so amazing. I have no words to explain how happy I am...." kzbin.info/www/bejne/imfMood5hcp8fJY

I knew you would get as emotional as I did when I first listened to this transcendental performance from Angelina. Having sung at a Nobel Peace Prize tribute for the second time being such a young artist is outstanding. Her treatment of the song, the pure feeling, caring approach towards the prize recipient and her family was truly a mark of Angelina's huge heart. Narge Mohammadi, the recipient is currently in prison in Iran for her human rights activism, so when you listen to the song in this context it really sounds like a prayer from Narges to her loved ones ♥
Has never been anything to compare with the grace and charm of Angelina Jordan, especially at the Nobel Peace Prize celebration. Aside from the fact she sings beyond belief as an out of this world angel. The respect, the charm she shows each song is always there. The elegance of her performances, including those graceful hand movements, confirm to me she is truly a gift from God to show us how to live in peace and with human humility. She mesmerizes, freezing my soul into tranquility..

Your looking great deadgrl. Here's some additional info about our Angel. In 2014, a little Norwegian girl was named and codified, a national treasure by both the King of Norway and the prime Minister. That same year, she sang for the Nobel peace prize winners all at the age of 8. In 2023, that same girl, now almost 18 will once again grace the Nobel peace prize stage and sing for the recipient once again. That young girl is none other than Angelina Jordan. Angelina at the 2023 Nobel peace prize concert. Angelina Jordan just made history. Angelina is the only solo singer under the age of 18 to have performed twice at the Nobel peace prize concert. Angelina singing, "unchained melody" accompanied by KORK. When I learned the story of Narges Mohammadi, this years recipient of the Nobel Peace Prize, and the history of the song "Unchained Melody", I fully understood why Angelina Jordan chose this song. Enjoy!

You mentioned several different artists that you have heard covering Unchained Melody, but you didn't mention the cover by Bobby Hatfield of The Righteous Brothers on The Andy Williams Show of Oct. 25th, 1965. Since that date Bobby's cover has been considered The Gold Standard and in the last 59-years it has never been equaled. Check out The Righteous Brothers doing a live take of a tune called You've Lost That Loving feeling; the most played song on American radio of the 20th century. Over 8,000,000 times in 36-years. Good Stuff!
