Most of Lovebites songs are not really constructed with a traditional lead and rhythm guitarist roles. Miyako and Midori share both roles equally. While one is playing a lead solo, the other one switches to the rhythm role, then they switch roles for the second solo. They alternate those roles equally and come together with a duet.

Asami in the early days of the band did have some issues with slipping a bit to the metal scream, but she has worked on her vocals and now had incredible strength through an entire concert. She has great range and can convey a ton of emotion in her lower, more R&B style.

One of the cool things about Lovebites is that they don't just lock themselves into one genre. They play songs with a heavier, more Slayer-like or Metallica-like sound. Check out "Break the Wall" next. Use this link: kzbin.info/www/bejne/a4HGYYuBZdGBo7c

Probably missed you already did something of these happy energetic talented ladies. They are especially on my car playlist 😎Hope in the near future you’ll react to their ‘swan song’ and I’m looking forward to new material and how they will develop themselves. Hope also they come to the Netherlands soon again. (4 years ago?!). Probably treat myself to a gig in Germany and would love to see them invited to one of the big music festivals in the Netherlands 🇳🇱 I forgot to mention I call it ‘Happy Metal’ 🎸🤘

Hi, you really need to check out live videos like "Swan Song" (with the piano intro), 'Edge of the World', 'Set the World oin Fire', 'Frozen Serenade', ;'Break the Wall;'and 'Empty Daydream' to appreciate the range and versatility of Lovebites. They are the real deal and one of the most talented bands out there today. IMO Miyako and Midori are one of, if not the best, twin lead guitarists, male or female, playing today. BTW, Miyako is is also a professional performance level classical pianist and the guitar is really her second instrument. I am 78 and grew up with rock and roll from its beginnings and when I first heard 'Shadowmaker' back in the fall of 2017, I had the same tingling feeling up my spine as when I first heard Check Berry and Presley back in 1955.

Agree that Miyako and Midori both play lead and rhythm. But when songs composed by Mao which mainly in keyboards like Holy War, someone has to arrange the backing riffs before sent it to Haruna then Miho. That's where Miyako stepped in. When Miyako play the melody, Midori would play the harmony. Vice versa. But most of the time Miyako arrange the backing riffs, Midori adding fills and cool runs in verses. Take for instance the pre-chorus of Swan Song, Midori runs make it more beautiful and classy. Or Shadowmaker, the track has five guitar tracks, 3 for Miyako, 2 for Midori. Even Miho has 2 bass tracks, one I think for unison lines with guitars, one sticks to the drums

Yeah whoever told you Miyako was rhythm was wrong, both of them always play lead. The game between Miyako and Midori is probably the main thing in Lovebites, how different in style they are and how well they play together and combine. The fast, fire, wild shredder Midori, and the emotional, cold, measured Miyako. Miya is actually the main composer in the band, half of the tracks are hers. She also plays piano since she was three and has a deep understanding of classical music, we could say she is the brains in the band.

Miyako was asked to join mainly because of her piano skills... She is also main composer. What i likes about them as a guitarduo, is the difference between them. While Midori is a typical shredder, Miyako is leaning more against tone and more bluesy style. But they cover each other nicely, which makes them one of the finest duos around.

Non... No... Miho wanted Miyako in her group from the start... Miyako was also involved in 21G and then Sonic Lover... and she decided to stay only with LB... don't talk nonsense... and remember too that there was a third guitarist, Sena, who only stayed for their first concert...

Sorry, let me add to your comment.😊 "Swan Song" is best advised to watch along with "Chopin's Etude" . "Chopin's Etude" is a prelude to "Swan Song" . Both pieces of music are dedicated to warriors who fell in battles. Therefore, at the concert (Tokyo, February, 2020) "Chopin's Etude" and "Swan Song" are performed together ( everything starts with Miyako's piano and ends with Miyako's piano ) . Eric has already made a reaction to "Set the World on Fire" (January 10, 2022). You can watch it on his channel .

Thanks for another awesome review! I haven’t been a steady listener to metal and you’re an engaging guide. Your appreciation for the music pulls me in and I listen more closely to the music. The musicianship in Lovebites is awesome. They have a strong sense of the nuances that make a musical tradition. It’s interesting to hear how Fami, the bassist who joined in 2022, supports the band’s commitment to metal as she adapts to the genre and brings her own style into the mix.

Thanks for more LOVEBITES! Considering your 'reaction' approach, I am very interested in your analysis of a few LOVEBITES songs. I'll start with "Trio of Miho" (playlist linked below) is 80 minutes into the set, 13, 14 & 15 (13min 50sec total time) in a 16-song main set. "The Apocalypse > M.D.O. > Don't Bite The Dust" All 3, lyrics by Miho, music Miho/Mao. Apocalypse is full of those amazing transitions from Haruna & Miho. Quite progressive to me. Takes us to Hiroshima/Nagasaki 1945, musically & lyrically. I think M.D.O. is thrash. Expressive performances to accentuate Miho's lyrical series of 'harsh truths' and 'uncomfortable wisdoms' transcending her 30 years(!) (Most Devastating Observations) Need I say more than the title of song 3? again, as all LOVEBITES songs, so many transitions, so imaginatively written & precisely performed! (cuts at end due to near-segue into "Holy War" after 1hr 35min at this pace! & Asami much more vocal sustain than than this one from 2020 that was only second song! 2-song encore follows main set) These from same show as "Set The World On Fire" which was song 4 from start of show. (I think I'm past my 'digression' quota! &:-) I'm continuing 'cause the others are 2 single songs from their studio-LIVE anniversary performance of their first full CD release, Awakening From Abyss. "Liar": kzbin.info/www/bejne/noDJdIiXbNCchLs "Inspire": kzbin.info/www/bejne/q6CodXR_fbKWabM For me, equally impressive & enjoyable. Miyako's music with her friend Dr U's lyrics of betrayal, while Inspire has lyrics from Asami with music by friend Araken. Asami's empowering lyrics end with a repeated chorus of "Just Believe In Yourself!" and was the closing song at their first ever LIVE LOVEBITES performance in Nov. 2016. Both written before LOVEBITES & 'arranged' to suit their style. Again, relentless transitions in both songs, awesome solos & duets! These 2 have me baffled as to what "genre" they might be described as. Pop-Prog-Metal? Just seems like too much happening to say, 'metal' or 'rock' ... "Trio Of Miho" is here: kzbin.info/www/bejne/sIuQmpqAlt94jJI 🐺

Thank you for your reaction. I beg to differ with you that "Holy War" is symphonic metal.🤗 LOVEBITES is primarily heavy, power, thrash, speed metal. Miyako and Midori share lead guitar parts roughly equally in almost all of the band's songs. Therefore, it can be said that LOVEBITES has two lead guitars.

Thanks from Japan 有難う💛。 Lovebites is one of the best bands in our country. We say "Japan is the country obsessed by Rock Music". The history is very long and the obsession started in 1966 when Beatles visited Japan and held 5 concerts at Budokan. Speaking of hard rock / heavy metal music, a number of bands started to come to Japan since as early as 1970s : Led Zeppelin / Grand Funk Railroad (1971), Deep Purple (1972), Queen (1975), Kiss (1977), Cheap Trick / Van Halen / Scorpions (1978), Judas Priest (1978/79) and so on. Now, any type of rock can be enjoyed here, especially by many all-female or women-fronted bands. They are daughters of American / European rock, for sure. (Many are grand-daughters in terms of age.) Uh-oh, we also say "Japan is the country obsessed by Jazz". It had started earlier than rock 😄

Some time ago I was looking into data that someone had done using spotify 2021 numbers, ordering countries by the most listened genres, and on the 20 countries studied Japan was the only one that had rock among their top5. Rap, hip hop, trap, pop...for germanic languages speaking countries (uk, us, de...); and reaggeton, latin, pop for latin language speaking countries. Rock has disappeared, it's not on the mainstream anymore. Probably that's why a lot of us that love rock are looking into what's being done in Japan right now, in 2020s it's the only place where it still keeps having lots of strength.

@@Hadesillo Thank you. They say one of the reasons of recent uptrend of Japan rock involving female musicians / performers rests with BABYMETAL. In a popular TV program, Keiko, a lead singer of Show-Ya (a pioneer of Japanese all-female bands) and Saki (Nemophila) emphasized one thing saying "BABYMETAL is not a band (like Lovebites, Band-Maid, Nemophila etc.), but thanks to their international success many music fans in foreign countries have discovered female bands in Japan disregarding language barrier. BABYMETAL opened doors for us". Interrelations between Kami Band and those all female and women-fronted bands are interesting.

I don't know why that person called it an older song when it's from the last album they released "Electric Pentagram" older songs are "Don't Bite the Dust" "Shadowmaker", "Rising", and When Destinies Align" those songs are from 2017 thru 2018. The wacken concert was in 2018, Battle in the East was in 2018, Daughter of the dawn was in 2019, and Five of a Kind 2020, and that is where this song is from. That person obviously doesn't know his facts. That was not symphonic metal that was metal of the late 70's and early 80's by claiming this then Judas Priest, Iron maiden, and Queensryche were symphonic metal, no they weren't, Asami is not operatic at all by saying this you are basically saying she is just like the female singers of Epica and nightwish now that's operatic not Lovebites.

symphonic metal? Really..... sounds like power metal to me, as with most others. Who told you that Miyako is coming along, then they haven't heard very much of LoveBites. Midori plays fast, a bunch of 32nd notes. If that is what consider a lead guitar, I'm sorry for you. Go back to 2017-2018 and listen to Miyako, before the marketing guys came up with the "Golden Touch" or "Crazy Shredder" BS. Bottom line is that Miyako can shred with the best of them. Take in consideration that she taught herself to play from a book! After a stint as a classical concert pianist. I'm in no way trying to take anything away from Midori, she is a great guitar player, to say the least. But to say that Miyako is "coming along" really shows that some people should STFU. They don't know a damn thing about music.
