I'm your generation. I grew up on Allman/Clapton and all those early guitar gods. I've never heard a song with two such contrasting yet perfect solos. And of course, Miho and Haruna just blew the roof off. One of their greatest performances. Thank you for checking it out. Great analysis, and I'd say the term is "synthesis"--they have created a tapestry of all the old rock and metal classics.

"So, we start the song like Slayer, we move on thrashing like Metallica and even do a drop like 'Muster of Puppets'. Oh! and, by the way, the melo part will be a tribute to Gary Moore and then will throw a little Deep Purple electric keyboard! Easy peasy"..... Only Lovebites could come up with that!!!🤘🐺🤘

Thanks for the reaction. How is Lovebites not one of the world's most known bands is one of the weirdest mysteries of our time! You probably figured this video is on a fan site, not on their official channel, hence the small number of views. Even on their official channel, they only have around 90k subs, which is absurd. The only area where they need to improve is marketing. The band members try to do their best on social media (and hardcore fans always try to help and promote the band) but their label/publisher often gets in the way . Take copyright claims, blocking reactions... Do I need to say more...? I wish they were somewhat more flexible. This band deserves to be successful and known!

The answer is at least in part, that classic metal is not a very popular genre. Very rarely will you find a song that fits into the classic metal (Speed, Power, Thrash) in the Spotify top 100. Also, some classic metal fans are meatheads who value image over musicianship, and will not listen to Lovebites because they are wearing white dresses rather than black leather and studs. Having said that, the lack of effective marketing is also a big factor in them not being better known.

Love this song. Midori's solo into that breakdown with Miho's bass line and Miyako's solo is a thing of beauty. The main riff is addictive too. Who am I kidding though - I love all of their songs. It's just such a shame that their official channel doesn't post more, consolidate official videos, put out isolation videos of just Haruna drumming through a song etc (they have all these cameras on all these live DVDs), interviews, little jam sessions etc. I think it would build so many more views, but as it is, they put up and take down videos, don't post often, and leave it to other channels to sometimes post things, which is how you get this videos with low views on some other channel. The label is, as yet, also not prepared to really market them outside of Japan. They all each work pretty hard on their own channels and Twitter. They should have millions of views. Millions. One of the greatest bands I have found. Ever. I hope they get the success they are so well deserved. I know you said you get it, but I'm going to request more Lovebites reactions anyway lol. For a change of pace, I suggest Empty Daydream, live from 2019.

Totally agree with your analysis and I have to say that I always enjoy watching Asami on stage and the way she commands the crowds without ever saying a word a true stage general in my opinion not only can she hold her own with her band mates vocally but having complete control of the crowd at the same time she is definitely my favourite singer despite her critics. So yeah I agree LOVEBITES and Band Maid “don’t just set the bar they are the bar”

The Lovebites musicians have completely sold out both live concerts (2 x 2000 visitors) on March 11 and 12, 2023 through advance bookings alone. No tickets will be released to the general public. What a terrific comeback !!! Unfortunately, probably no larger halls in Tokyo were free in time. But it may also be that the girls are too modest. The five girls would certainly have sold out 2x 4000 seats. The people love them.🤘LOVEbites 🤘

Let's be honest here; Lovebites could play the entire Metallica catalogue with ease and take it to a higher level, heck they could do the same with Megadeath. But Metallica and Megadeath could not play the entire Lovebites catalogue even if we left out the piano parts. Midori and Miyako are too freakin GOOD.
@TheCyberMantis
@TheCyberMantis Жыл бұрын
Dream Theater and Symphony X could play all the LOVEBITES songs, no problem. But if we are comparing Lovebites to those bands... that tells you what level Lovebites is on. If Megadeth had a keyboard player, they could do it too. Kiko Loureiro is one of Midori's guitar influences. Dirk Van Buren is in a DEATH tribute band, so he can play all that stuff from Sean Reinert and Gene Hoglan. Dirk can handle Haruna's drumming, no problem. But that doesn't mean Lovebites is any less amazing. Lovebites is awesome. They are the future of metal. When all those wizard dudes are too old to play anymore... Lovebites will take their place. They will be the influences for the next generation. Heavy Metal never dies! 🤘🏼🐺🤘🏼

@@TheCyberMantis Dream Theater was the first band that I discovered 30 years ago that were masters at everything they did. With that said, John Patrucci would have to clone himself to play the Lovebites catalogue, it takes 2 highly skilled guitars to pull it off. So no to Dream Theater... Megadeath has had some very good guitarist, what 2 would you have harmonizing like M&M live on stage with out mistakes? Who would play Miyako's solos with the feels? Not going to happen.. I have never listened to Symphony X, could you recommend 2 songs for me to listen to that would show 2 guitarists playing technical harmonized solos at the level that M&M play? There are many great guitar players in this world, but these ladies have a chemistry that I don't feel is duplicated. Just because a band has 2 very good/great guitarists does not mean that they could duplicate Lovebites. Their song writing/composition and duel harmonizing solos set them apart more so than the high level of skill. If only skill counted then there are a few bands that could play the Lovebites catalogue, but skill alone would not pull it off.

If Gary Moore were to sit in on a session with SLAYER, it might sound something like this. Most of their songs are Power Metal, but they do have other great Thrashers, as well as amazing ballads. Check out these live recordings: SWAN SONG (+ Chopin intro), RAISE SOME HELL, and SET THE WORLD ON FIRE. Also be sure to watch the MV for JUDGEMENT DAY, the first song released from their upcoming album with new bassist FAMI.

Great reaction and even better analysis and review. Fresh and bright is perfect as each member has their own influences yet they blend them and then play them especially LIVE perfectly. Miyako's Gary Moore vibe always kills me and her and Midori are polar opposites who blend perfectly. They blend because of talent but also their relentless work ethic and devotion to their music and each other. Then pile that on the Miho/Haruna foundation and add the 4' 10" Asami dynamo who can deliver whatever the band needs and you understand why the Wolfpack is so fanatical. I hope they tour this year and maybe the rest of the world will finally get the treat we have had since we 2017, listening to one of the best band ever, especially LIVE.

I know you like to look down for notes and away just not to get distracted from the music. Darn it, you missed the best back bend in metal by Midori ever during her solo!! 🙂 I'm 62 years old and have been a metalhead for 50+ years (Zeppelin in 1971 started my journey). Thrash has always been my favorite genre of metal. Exodus is my favorite pure thrash band. Of course there are many others like Slayer, Megadeth, Destruction, and so many more. This song, and this particular performance, is honestly my all-time favorite thrash song. No distortion, incredible musicianship, and a solo run second to none in any thrash song I've ever heard. Midori does her Midori thing shredding, but then WHAT? Slow it down in the middle of a thrash song? Miho gives her bass line lead-in to Miyako's amazing and emotional solo you rarely hear in pure thrash. The riff is as heavy as any other song by Slayer or Metallica or whomever. This is probably the song I am most intrigued to hopefully hear live again with Fami at bass. Break the Wall is directly in Miho's wheelhouse, and she killed it. Would Fami add more deeper tone while playing multiple styles, yet keep this song "as is"? Miyako & Midori are the best guitar leads going today, and I will argue ever. Their solos are so well constructed, and they all take you on a journey. There solos never sound random, or soloing just for the sake of soloing. Every song they do is a metal masterpiece, and each song brings something a little different. I love your analysis!!

I am also 62 and your story is very similar to mine. My first favorite band was Grand Funk Railroad when Closer To Home was released in 1970, but then Led Zeppelin and Deep Purple soon followed. Then it was AC/DC, Queen, Van Halen, Thin Lizzy, Nazareth, Judas Priest and a boatload of southern rock bands (no Black Sabbath unfortunately). College is where I started listening to Iron Maiden and then later Megadeth, Anthrax and Slayer. I guess we will find out about how Fami does live in less than two months. Both shows are sold out (the capacity, though, is less than 2,000) and I would think that Break The Wall will be on one or both set lists.

Unlike most bands, Lovebites doesn't seek to reinvent metal, they strive to evolve it. Like an alchemist, they blend their many and varied influences from classic metal into a style and form that can be best described as Lovebites Metal. That being said, I'm going to offer a couple of suggestions that I don't consider Metal. One I would call hard rock, the other, 80's synth: Dancing With The Devil live ( kzbin.info/www/bejne/o3uqmH98ibWAe5o ) and Spellbound live 2021 ( kzbin.info/www/bejne/p3iamaqLlLd9pKc ).

Lovebites - taking the best of "old school" Power/Thrash/Heavy Metal to the next level since 2016! In other words: I fully agree with what you said. I don't know how familiar you are with Testament's debut "The Legacy" (it was my favourite album in 1987 and is still one of my favourite Thrash Metal albums), but the first time I heard Lovebites' "Break the Wall", the main riff immediately had me thinking: "Testament! "Over the Wall"!" If you want to see what I mean, go to the 34-seconds-mark in this clip: kzbin.info/www/bejne/oqLPeauMbrWpmcU This being said, it probably won't come as a surprise when I say that "Break the Wall" is one of my three favourite songs by Lovebites (thus far) - the other two are "Set the World on Fire" (which you have already reacted to) and "The Hammer of Wrath". Since you haven't reacted to the latter yet, here's a link to the live-version from 2020 (preceded by the Intro "The Awakening"): kzbin.info/www/bejne/paWti4OLeNysha8

TY so much again for your insight !! This was the 3rd song I heard from them, being their 3rd song on the setlist on the start of the European tour in the Netherlands almost 5 years ago. I went in completely blanc. Who’s playing?!? A new J metal band. The first surprise was 5 ladies entering the small stage, 30 seconds in the first song (The Crusade) I thought already this is going to be a great evening, after this song I was sold and after song 8 (The Hammer of Wrath) I was lost. Took me 1 live gig to become an addict. Best 15 euro I ever spent on a ticket. It’s exactly what you mention, the freshness and the different energy. Metallica had it some moments during Pinkpop 2022, eager to play, perform and happy to entertain, but it wasn’t the complete concert. 2023 In the Netherlands I didn’t felt happy and entertained. Maybe I’m spoiled by these ladies and expect their level of play, energy and pure happiness?!? A few more days flying to Bangkok for a holiday with my family, but during the last week flying to Japan to see the talented ladies live on their home soil. Hope my Thai wife believes I’m not having an affair (with 5 ladies) and up with a divorce 😉 Btw 32000 (100 times at least of myself) is ridiculous and a bloody shame, this song IMHO one of the best metal songs in recent years. Do metal fans around the world not have internet ??

Seeing that this band, Band Maid, Nightwish, are so little known in general and things like Machine Gun Kelly are cheered and recognized as "good" music does nothing but show me the decadence of the mainstream and what the general public wants to hear. And is so sad... Some may say it's nostalgia." the past was always better", but in this case Lovebites and NW are active bands. I'm glad to see that there are some of us who can still appreciate good music. We will continue to try to show it to the new generations.

Eric, I enjoy your reactions. :-) Offended by the number of views? Many factors play into that but since you know the industry then you know there's a lot of 'gatekeeping' going on - not surprising considering the tenor of the times we are in. Remember 'payola'? That's still going on but in different, less noticeable ways. To give you an example, in a recent interview someone who really knows the recording industry hesitated to answer a particular question ( re record companies influencing the numbers) from the interviewer saying he had to be real careful about answering that. I guess there could be consequences of some sort. Lovebites is a new standard but there are many who don't want 'their' lucrative standard deposed. Still, I think Lovebites, and even Band-Maid and others along the way will prevail in some way provided they don't get derailed by the greed of others whether in their camp or outside of it. Could say more but I think you get the picture.
