You guessed it right, "Elvenjig" is a recent, fully instrumental addition to "Elvenpath", which is a track from their first album "Angel Fall First" (1997). I think that this musical construction appeared in the preparation of the "Decades" tour in 2018, in which Nightwish performed a selection of songs from their entire career, at the completion of 2 decades of the band's activity. I think this explains the reaction of Emppu, who sang the complex final solo again, after all this time. I really liked your collaboration with Just Jen, I hope you two will relapse one day :)

Thank you very much! For both the compliment and the guidance on my trip. I won't call you Captain Trips! And I think I messed up and said Marco when I meant to say Floor. Their music fires off so many references in my head then a tsunami of names start crashing in my brain. This is why I forget my son's lunch. Cheers! Eric

Elvenjig is one of those songs where I just close my eyes and easily picture a whole Celtic party in my head, just like with I Want My Tears Back. While Elvenpath is the fairy-tale world where my characters live. Nightwish and Celtic music have become my daily soundtrack while I do my creative writing, their music woke up my muse, from her 10years hibernation

Hey Eric, I enjoyed your reaction. Your remarks about the 'danger zone' for singers took me back to your reaction to 'Ever Dream' with JustJen. Floor has stated more than once that this song is hard to sing for her. The danger zone you referenced, is just around the corner in this song. Being the talented singer she is, she does very well to avoid sliding into the danger zone, but it does take a lot of effort and control. It's impressive, but honestly, so is the musical ability of all bandmembers. This performance of 'Elvenjig/Elvenpath' proofs that, yet again.

Do you know what makes Eric such a GREAT reactor where Nightwish is concerned? Let me count the ways: 1. He ALWAYS appreciates Tuomas, always mentions him. Nightwish begins and ends with Tuomas. He understands that. 2. He appreciates the whole band equally. 3. He doesn't repeat himself very much.He always gives good examples from his own experience why he appreciates Nightwish. 4. He has a pleasant voice, he isn't LOUD and in love with his own voice. 5. He doesn't preach about things. 6. He dares to show his emotions. 7. He seems humble and considerate. 8. He is consistent in his reactions, he takes his time, doesn't rush things, doesn't come repetitive. 9. He seems to like pretty much all Nightwish, not that it's necessary but I can relate.😁 10. He doesn't rank the Nightwish members. 11. He pays attention. 12. He is paying attention to their names and the spelling.😁 + he doesn't shamelessly beg money just because he is watching videos that other people make. From what I've seen he might sell jewelry or do business with the firm but it's a another product you get with your money, so that's cool. I don't sub to reactors because I want more quality from the channels that I sub.In too many cases Nightwish is just a means to an end: You give me the money and I'll react to Nightwish.EASY MONEY. Takes away from the honesty and sincerity of the reaction. However: If I ever would sub this channel would be it. I always come back to check on this channel and some Nightwish reactions I've watched many times. I fear ( 🙃) for the day that he has run out of Nightwish material and doesn't do them anymore because he has been that good.I feel little uncomfortable adding my comment but I will. Eric deserves it. Have a good day Eric. You are awesome the way that you are. :)

Little fact: Floor did this song in Bogota while battling heavy flu... Now, that is her level of commitment to the fans! Kai's drumming is crazy good in this one. And Emppu's guitar playing was pretty complicated, but impressive never the less. This song hit me hard , especially that first verse : "The sheltering shade of the forest Calling come in silence Accompanied only by the full moon Howling of a night wolf And the path under my bare feet The elvenpath" . I remember (it was like 16 years ago), I walked home through the woods after work, it was already dark. And suddenly a full moon appeared behind the clouds, and then, this verse Hit me (I think it was also Floor's voice). It was awesome..Thank you Eric for that memory 😌 Now....you heard Early Floor in Revamp, but let's take this way more back, For example: Dreamflight- After Forever kzbin.info/www/bejne/fXOvnJhqr8qNq6s or this great Iron Maiden Cover by them: After Forever - The Evil That Men Do - ( Iron Maiden ) back in 2004 kzbin.info/www/bejne/o53SoIBrmNNmg8k (I must warn you , the video quality is poor , but sound is Great). NWSU 🤘😎🤘

I concur pops up on all sorts of channels when I'm watching Nightwish reactions. I often say "ah, you're a fellow Wyldeside watcher!". Love this song in this performance. Elvenjig is trad arranged by Troy for his old band and rearranged by Nightwish. Now played with Elvenpath which is a very early song from the first album "Angels Fall First" - a 7 song album that came from the initial 3 demo songs and grew to that album. Even in the very first album Tuomas was showing his genius. Lots of technical trickery from Marco and Emppu at the start to get weird engine sounds and so on. Yes Emppu isn't struggling znd it isn't z real effort. What I see is more concentration than usual. Back in the early days Tuomas said “He’s a funny guy. He can’t stay in one spot for long, he has the shortest attention span ever. If you teach him a riff he forgets it in five minutes however often you go through it.” Emppu has come a long way and is one of the best I can bring to mind, a true master. I'm pleased someone agrees with me (?) that Marco is one of the best male vocalists in metal today (obviously excluding the deceased like Ronnie James).

Elvenpath" Hearing music from the deepest forest Songs as a seduction of sirens The elf-folk is calling me Tapio, Bearking, Ruler of the forest Mielikki, Bluecloak, Healer of the ill and sad Open the gate and let me follow the uncarven path The way to the lands Where as a hero I stand The path where Beauty met the Beast Elvenpath It's the honesty of these worlds Ruled by magic and mighty swords That makes my soul long for the past Elvenpath The moonwitch took me to a ride on a broomstick Introduced me to her old friend Home Gnome Told me to keep the sauna warm for him At the grove I met rest-the folk of my fantasies Bilbo, Sparhawk, goblins and pixies, Snowman, Willow, trolls and the seven dwarfs The path goes forever on [Repeat chorus] As I return to my room And as sleep takes me by my hand Madrigals from the woods Carry me to neverland In this spellbound night The world's an elvish sight

And BTW @The Wyldeside with Eric Clark ty for mentioning that Rock Academy Reunion docu about Floor at Tampere. I've suggested it to you recently and maybe others did as well. My comment here is to make sure you get to the right version of that video. I provided the link to the right one, since there are other versions with more views which get out of sync after a while. Didn't mention that in my suggestion, hence my little addendum here. The link again is: "Floor Jansen in Dutch show Reunion (Tampere 2015)" - kzbin.info/www/bejne/sIPUoqCXadCKf8k Cheers from Amsterdam!

Emppu had lots of intense lead parts on early NW albums, and the difference to the modern supportive chugging is quite notable, so it's no wonder that he seems focused when revisiting old songs. It's a bit like trying to pull off the relentless antics and athletic feats of a 20-year-old as a middle-aged man. 😄

Elvenjig is a folky intro they added to Elvenpath in live performances. It’s a twist of a song called “Jigs” from Troy’s previous band, Iona. Elvenpath is the first song of the first album of Nightwish, back in 1997. This is the link of the song “Jigs” by Iona. At 2:07 starts the same melody. kzbin.info/www/bejne/raebYZ-ug69rl68

Super interesting reaction / deep dive from you. To me personally, this songs is very close to a masterpiece - because: It takes me 55 years back, to the early mornings when I was out in the forest by the opening with water holes, heath - the fog laying over the plants and water, the butterflies, nymps and insects, trying to catch the first sun light to get heated up. Then comes the wind making the fog dance and create figures, imaginary Elfs and others - creating stories in my head. The cold and varmth feelings on my skin.. Nightwish - I know it's Tuomas that composes - but this is a 6-person creation, giving me these experiences in my mind - memories from my childhood. And Floor - vocalizing emotions and creating or rather enhancing the memories reproducing the thoughts from back when I a kid. I am there again - I can almost touch it. To me, It's phenomenal how they all 6 are able to create these moments from the past in my mind - they all add something unique that matches perfectly into my old fantasies. **** Probably a bunch of rubbish to many people - but I guess they have others just as strong and personal experiences with this song. *** Super cool double reaction you made with Just Jen - she is so filled with info about Nightwish, that's almost unbelievable. Especially in that short amount of time she had known them. She is very special in the best possible way.

More than progressive, for me, is more power metal.. and the theme of Elves..Dwarfs... leads me to The Lord of the Rings... in fact I guess that was Tuomas' inspiration. They are 2 separated songs... they put it together for this tour, if I'm right. I always enjoy your reactions/ analysis... and always jump right into if I see a NW song.🤘🏻...in this case, I agree with you....IT takes you to your childhood years...44years old metalhead here😅 Aaaaaand you can envy me ..I was at that show 😄😜 Much love from Argentina!

"Spam, Spam, eggs and chips", "Spam, Spam, Spam, eggs, chips and Spam". Monty Python... Emppu pointed you out, as you were looking down in the handy dandy notebook... Markos smile when he's with Floor. Emerson, Lake & Palmer moment on the synth, Emppu starts the next section. Tuomas regularly refers to familiar sounds and words. Stephen King? Dark Tower > referred to in another song... "Poet and the Pendulum"? Genesis, Peter Gabriel.

Music like Elvenjig makes me envision a party of magical creatures around a large bonfire in the middle of a Sylvan forest, hearkens back to my fantasy RPG roots.

You are not mistaken at all. There are a lots of LOTR influences and of course Jethro Tull influences (I'm a long time JT fan). Ian Anderson is a Scottish salmon farmer and Troy is from Cumbria. There's no way that there's any connections between those two pipers. And the Nightwish Finn's sure know JT too about as much as l do. 😎👍

One of the most difficult solos in Nightwish can be seen in Buenos Aires Gethsemane. Gethsemane is more neoclassical metal song. When you mentioned Van Halen, I couldn't not remember Emppu's former side project Brother Firetribe, an AOR 80s sounding band that is very guitar and keyboards driven. PS It's nice that Nightwish used visuals that look similar to the Helcaraxë (or maybe I'm just projecting my own Tolkien geekness). Showing an appreciation for JRR Tolkien that is unfortunately not as common as it was just a few years ago. These two songs work great together, Elvenjig is great at setting the mood for Elvenpath.

Hey Eric, many greetings from Germany! I love your deep insight and understandig of the Music and the kind how to share your thoughts with us. Many thanks for that, it is much appreciated. But one Tipp: Dont miss the Song "Ghost River" from Wacken 2013! Its the most asthonishing counter singing with Marco and Floor, who represents the dark and the light. Very impressing!

You know it's very interesting and I know you haven't seen most songs from this particular concert but this is the one concert where Emppu has his own moment to shine...... And they're not like 10 second solos......

I feel that those who react only to the tracks, instead of seeing the performance, are missing fully half of the beauty. These are meant to be performances, beautiful shows, not just "music." They're very much more than the sum of their parts. Also, I feel that if there's a band to relight that spark of the child in us, it's Nightwish. Yes, you made sense XD

I've only been a NW fan since the pandemic so obviously a huge Floor fan, but in falling down this rabbit hole came across an Annette song so beguiling... Don't see any requests for her era much but would really love a reaction to "Slow, Love, Slow", the Annette version, when it's time for something completely different. Thank you, my favorite reactor!

It's always interesting to watch your analysis, you seems to find many aspects what I have not even thought about...But I can tell that lyrics of many songs (Nightwish) are some what based to old legends and old poetry from book "Kalevala". Example on lyrics of this song you can find "Tapio" who is God of Forest and "Mielikki" who is wife of Tapio. What comes to Metal music, my opinion that roots of Finnish metal and specially symphonic metal, can be found from early of 80's. Funny coincidence is band which was front line of this genre, had name "Yö"...what means "Night" and 15 years later we got NIghtwish. Here one popular song from that band,English version. kzbin.info/www/bejne/aX_IiqF_gtSYoKc
