Not beer. It’s tea with honey and lemon for his voice. Freddie said he didn’t like to drink beer on stage, because it made him burp. And he thought that was rude to the paying audience.

This concert was filmed to be released as a movie in theaters. That's one reason the picture and sound are such good quality. There were two concerts over two nights. The filmmakers wanted the guys to were the same clothes both nights so they could edit them together. But they made Freddie mad the first night and he didn't comply the second night. They didn't want the audience to move around or sing along, which Freddie didn't like. If you watch the whole concert or the any of the encore, you will see Freddie in only short tennis shorts, a red bandana and no shoes. Moral of that story is... don't tick Freddie off.

@@dadwhatsfordinner yep, that's our Freddie. You may notice him turning his back to the audience and bending over at some point during a show. They had managers early in their careers who stole money from the band. When they found out, of course they fired them. That's is Freddie's way of telling them to, well, you know. He also wrote a song about them you will never see a video of, but it can be found in audio. I think the title is "Death on Two Legs". Freddie really expresses his opinion of that management team. Like I said, don't tick him off. And he never forgot.

@@dadwhatsfordinner btw, have you seen their Live Aid complete set yet? If not, it's 20 minutes of the best concert ever. Don't worry about the length, we Queenies love it. I think you can get the uncut version on the Queen Official channel. One thing to remember when watching it; Freddie had a serious throat infection and was told by his doctor he could do serious damage to his voice if he did the show. He later is reported to say it was like gargling with cut glass while he was singing.

@@donnalong402 Yes, “Death On Two Legs” is definitely an interesting track. It is one of the earliest diss songs and Freddie Mercury definitely made his feelings clear about their first manager. There are live versions but the official lyric video is the way to go. You will see the lyrics and definitely hear the venom.

Go down the Queen rabbit hole. You won’t be sorry! This is from 1981 Montreal. It is live. No auto tune. No prerecorded tracks. These guys were at the peak of their career. All genius musicians, songwriters and Freddie -greatest singer and showman ever. Another great concert is live in Wembley - It’s A Kind of Magic, Under Pressure, Love of My Life. Try HydePark 1976 -You Take My Breath Away.

As a new subscriber of yours. here's some basic facts about the Queen phenomenon.... Freddie Mercury was a perfectionist with all of their music ... the rhythm part, the drum sounds, all of it, lyrics usually came later. Roger Taylor the drummer was recognized as a child of 8 that he was an extraordinary drummer...& Brian May taught himself on a ukulele & then built that guitar he uses to this day at the age of 16 with his father out of old fireplace wood, his mom's knitting needle & parts from a bicycle because his parents didnt have the money to buy a good guitar !!! It took them 2 years to build !! It is known as The Red Special. Brian at other's requests, wrote a book about their project & now has a company that manufactures them. They are all highly educated men, Freddie graduated Art College. Roger went to a Dental school, John "Deaky" Deacon graduated with a degree in electronics & Dr. Brian May earned a Doctorate degree in Astrophysics, & just this December 2022 was Knighted by King Charles III of England earning him the distinguished title of Sir Brian May. And the man has been considered by most music know-it-all- critics as the greatest guitarist of the century. & on a par with Hendricks. Nobody that's followed Queen would disagree. I was intrigued by your courage to say you are displeased with the music industry today... not many admit that. Listening to Queen it is so refreshing to see how many are impressed with their superior music output of a quality long forgotten by current performers. It's a testament why 50 years later their music is so respected & loved & acknowledged to be so incredible. I hope you will seriously jump down the rabbit hole into the talents of these 4 extraordinary men who were DETERMINDED to get their music heard & barely had food to eat & crashed on friends floors for years & never gave up their belief that their music & Freddie's incredible 4 octave voice deserved a recording deal. Years of practice & disappointment paid off starting first with the song Seven Seas of Rhye, then Killer Queen & then the 6 minute masterpiece (all written & sung by Freddie) they fought to keep 6 minutes long called Bohemian Rhapsody made the world realize their music was extraordinary. A friend, radio D J of Freddie's named Kenny Everett was ordered not to play the 6 min song on his show & when he heard it from Freddie's visit to his studio, Everett played it on his radio show 14 times over that weekend & it is considered the GOAT song ever. Go down the Queen rabbit hole.... you'll never hear music like this ever again. Thanks...oh, & at the age of 44, Freddie wrote an entire album of operatic songs for the top Soprano Diva at the time MONTSERRAT CABALLE & as a child exposed by his parents to opera he expressed a desire to sing the songs with her at live concerts, which they did the year before he died at the age of 45. The operatic songs he wrote were mostly in English, 1 in Japanese & 1 in French!!! . Opera critics all over the world commended his songwriting & his singing with the Diva as beautifully done. One of the songs was used to open the 1992 Olympics !! The album is called BARCELONA, listen to it. It will amaze you as well, in fact no... watch the videos of them live onstage, you'll truly be astounded that a rock performer could write & sing an entire operatic album. I'll check back soon...

This is one of the greatest live performances ever. Freddie was a huge fan of Aretha Franklin and he wrote this song as a tribute to her and considered his composition better than Bohemian Rhapsody from the writing aspect. He loved Aretha's early gospel style singing especially her phrasing and he taught himself just by listening to his idol. Freddie never took singing lessons, but he could sing any genre effortless, with lot of energy, passion and emotions. Great reaction, thanks for it. Pls, check out White Queen at Hammersmith 75.

React to Queen and we Queenies will come running to your channel! Anything you could possibly wonder about, we can find the answer for you. This whole concert (Montreal 81) is fantastic and on YT. There is also a Commentary version where Dr. (Sir!) Brian May (CBE) and Roger Taylor (OBE) hang out and talk about the ins and outs of that concert and playing concerts in general. Getting to know the guys is fun as they are all so different, but equally brilliant in their fields. Queen is in the Guinness Book of World Records as the first complete band to have all its members inducted into the Songwriters Hall of Fame at the same time. Because all 4 wrote, as you go through, you will hear totally different styles and think, "This is Queen?!" and the answer will always be," Yes!" They refused to be boxed into one style or genre and it is their variety of sounds that brings many of us together when other bands stick to a formula. Boring! Have some fun with Queen and they will always entertain you and often have you thinking and wondering, "Who wrote this and what does it mean?" It means whatever you make it to mean. Happy New Year!

When Freddie joined, he proposed "Queen" - regal, audacious, grand. & designed the Queen logo you see on official Queen videos. The iconic look you describe is from the 80s and the arena shows, where they streamlined their look and sound. Early glam rock days from the 70s are a combo of complex compositions, layered vocal tracks, long hair and theatrical attire. Raw rock power performances like LIAR and STONE COLD CRAZY - via Queen official video, live at the Rainbow 1974. Trailblazers live and in the studio with a foundation and full nod to the Beatles. Freddie was a big Hendrix and Lennon fan, along with other artists (like Aretha, as this was his tribute to her).

Yes most definitely live and the songs would change very slightly each concert, Freddie wrote this one, and no its not all beer on the piano, the whole group wrote the songs, together or individually can all sing, play various instruments, built their own Amps curtsey of John Deacon, built their own Red Special Guitar recently knighted Sir Dr Brian May, all had solo careers running alongside Queen and they never stick with one style of music

Fantastic performance by the entire band. Thank you for your reaction and Happy New Year to you. This Montreal concert was filmed so there are lots of songs and the full concert on KZbin, etc. This had been Brian and Roger's band with a bass player/singer named Tim, the band was then named Smile. Tim quit the band and Freddie who had always really thought the band had a lot of potential, wanted to be part of the band, so he asked Brian and Roger if he could come in and play with them to see if he could become the new singer. Freddie hadn't really honed his voice yet but his piano skills convinced both Roger and Brian that Freddie should have a place in the band. Freddie, unhappy with the sound of his voice once he heard it on their demo, worked on his vocals and finally got them to where he was pleased with them. Freddie had a degree in Design, Fashion and Advertising and since Brian and Roger had already decided that they wanted to change the band name, Freddie suggested the name Queen. Rog and Brian weren't all that keen on the name, but Freddie was insistent saying that the name was sophisticated, regal and interesting. Freddie also changed up the look of the band. He told the others that they needed an image that would have people talking about the band and intrigued about the band before they even got on the stage to play. So Freddie essentially suggested the name of the band should be Queen and the others finally agreed to it. The band still needed a bass player so after trying out about 7 bass players that just didn't fit for one reason or another, John Deacon came in and played with them. He was immediately a great fit and was the perfect fourth member for the band, plus he had an advanced degree in electronics which would come in handy for the band as well. Freddie designed the Queen Logo which is based on the astrological symbols of the four members of the band. It still remains the official Queen logo and appears on everything that is officially Queen.
