Originally three guys who started as street musicians and now fill stadiums. They perform live with a nine-member band and make an effort to support female musicians. They have the incredible talent to embrace an entire crowd, whether it’s 100 or 50,000 people, and invite them to join a wildly energetic jam session. If seen them couple of times live.

The band AnnenMayKantereit is the sur names of the 3 founding members, Christopher ANNEN Henning MAY and Severin KANTEREIT. All three are multi-instrumentalist. They formed in 2011 right out of high school in Cologne (Koln) Germany. The lead singer is Henning May (pronounced My) born January 13, 1992.

Great reaction, guys! Lots of keen observations. Like noticing all the lady musicians on stage. The all-male core band Annen, May and Kantereit made a conscious decision to have female backing musicians on their tour to increase the presence of female artists in pop concerts. Since 2022, they've also had a female bass player, Sophie Chassée (despite her French name, she's also German), the girl he introduces at 6:32. Have you noticed how virtuosically Henning May conducts and “plays” the audience? Almost as if it were another instrument. In an interview, Henning May once described himself as an “emotional pyromaniac” on stage who loves to ignite and control the emotions of his audience. This is a prime example of this. Before the song's “grand finale”, he says: “I know, I know, soon you'll all go home and have a Kölsch [the local beer in "Köln" - Cologne]; but that's all ‘soon’. NOW, now you still belong to us. So, please!” It is not a spontaneous ad lib, but a well-calculated retarding moment to inspire the audience anew for the upcoming finale.

Woohooo another reaction to one of my favourite German bands!!! ❤Saw them onstage in Hannover last year and it was an incredible experience!!! Every song is good, but maybe you try "ich geh heut nicht mehr tanzen" (Proberaum Session!) because it so much fun and I would love to see your faces while listening! Why are they so natural and seem like you can just hang out with them and have a good time? Well, those guys started out as street musicians and became famous by posting songs on youtube they recorded completely raw. One Mic, one Camera, one room or one street and ONE TAKE! They are just natural musicians and as down to earth as possible. Something you can rarely find in todays industry!

The town "Köln" is over 2000 years old... you might know it as "Cologne"... and if you still don't, then you know the term ´cologne` when it comes to perfume = Eau de Cologne Köln or Cologne is the fourth largest city in Germany and is known for its world-famous cathedral, carnival, chocolate and of course its perfume (4711 or the competitor Farina = countless French-sounding brands, all of which are German and produced in Cologne :-) Cologne not only has a Roman history, it also has the most Romanesque churches in one place. Ah, the letter Ö. Just say „burn“ but with a K instead of the B, and an L instead of the R. That’s Köln. Cologne. The city where AMK were born, and went to school, and started playing. They are local heroes here, and that stadium holds 50,000 for football games. Greetings from Köln. They have one of the many unofficial anthems of the city, „Tommy“. A song about a guy born in Cologne and living in Berlin, who wishes he was back in his hometown. It’s unashamedly sentimental and emotional, which resonates very much with the people here. People from Cologne believe you can’t be as happy anywhere else. It’s a vibe.

AMK was my number one on Sportfy wrapped, so yeah.. I get it :) And since you asked, this actually is my favorite performance of theirs, and my most listened song from last year also. I just love this song & especially this live performance. Henning May (the singer) is in his thirties (33 next January), this particular performance is from summer tour 2023. This band has been around for over ten years now, though: they met in school and have been playing together since. Please react to ANY of their music, but my recommendations are: for more covers, try "Can't get you out of my head" (Kylie Minoque cover, my personal favorite), for live performances "Lass es Kreisen" and if you want something more somber & heart-breaking.. well, anything really - but maybe "Du bist anders" Proberaum session, or "Ozean" (Henning's version). And almost nobody ever reacts to "Alle Fragen", which is IMO one of their best work, and utterly heart breaking. Just keep 'em coming, there is not one bad song so you can't really go wrong. And yes.. we all love Henning May.

The name signifies the three main artists, Annan, May and Kantereit...not one guy. They sometimes perform as the three of them but regularly have a whole ensemble of musicians.

"Köln" is the name of the 4th biggest German city, located in the very west of the country. It's one of the oldest cities in Germany, going back to a settlement in ancient Rome, where the name comes from. In French and English, the city is usually known as Cologne. ;)

AnnenMayKantereit - Ich geh heut nicht mehr tanzen (Proberaum Session) -You will enjoy that one. Especially when you check out the lyrics, afterwards. Simple, but with enough meaning that people argue about what it means on the internet. As most of their songs. Proberaum Sessions are the best versions IMHO. Cleaner than the live version, but more free style than the album. PS. That voice? Exactly what you think. A bit of talent, lots of work, but also a lot of smoking.
