Good talk with many good points that are still valid today (maybe even more than back then). But while I understand that satire has to be exaggerated, I disagree with two examples of him: 1. Considering shooting down airplanes with muslim extremists was done in the aftermath of 911. Knowing that a plane will be used to kill people and that the passengers would die anyway was the assumption. Bombing a city with Nazis inside is something completely different. No one discussed bombing mosques just because there were extremists inside. 2. I would consider honor killings to be worse than what's described as family drama (if one wants to put both horrible things on a scale and compare them). Honor killing is in any case selfish and because of one's ego. Family drama can also be someone so deep in depression and helplessness that he/she sees no way or future for the family to have a good life. Of course that's also bad because many times, the family isn't asked and could most probably go on with life even better without the person taking their lifes but it somehow feels worse to me to kill because of a hurt ego.

Although I really appreciate his cabaret, I find his rhetoric very one-sided. He would reach the minds he is trying to reach better if he gave more space to the difficult nature of the Abrahamic religions and the existing differences between the cultures. It is shocking how vehemently many people in their comments reject Mr. Rether's statements in their entirety without differentiating or nuancing them. Which only confirms many of his statements. Religion is a relic of a stage of social development that has long since been completed and to which we continue to cling like a drowning man to a sinker. Nevertheless, people who want to practise their religion should be allowed to do so as long as they do not harm other people.

As a German, I sadly have to say, this show did not age well... We Gemans have been very tolerant to everyone who came here. Unfortunately, we now have the radical Islam on the streets in Hamburg and elsewhere, publically promoting the Kalifat. Nowadays we have a big problem with Islamists. And even if we can make a difference between Islam and Islamistic Fanatics, the fanatics don't make any determination. We are all non-believers, that have to be extinct. The Islamists don't care about anyone, except Islamists. I personally don't want a Kalifat or the Sharia ruling over here in Germany. But If we don't stop it right now, we will lose the culture-war against radical Islam. To be honest, that is also true for the UK and the entire West.

I can see why you think of yourself as tolerant. But try this: Go out on the street and declare Germany a Einwanderungsland. Try it today. Try it 10 years ago. People will scream at you as if you lost your mind. Germany was never tolerant in rural areas. Never tolerant unless you came to work for low wages doing jobs nobody wanted to do anyway. Nobody wanted to rent their flat to Africans 10 or 20 years ago. Clearly it would be stupid to rent to a drug dealer right? There is a reason why immigrants with higher education do not pick Germany as their number 1 destination. Think about it. In the US or Canada you live there for a short period of time, you get citizenship far easier, you can put the flag on your house and it is frowned upon to step up and tell you "wait a minute, you are no real American, you are *enter ethnic background here*" In Germany it is completely normal to meet the third generation of immigrants and congratulate them to their german language skills. They are born here but always reminded how we see them as not part of us.
@spittylama5 ай бұрын
How can you say that Germany has been very tolerant? It took ages for a faschist party, the NPD, to be prohibited. The NSU murders are an absolute shame of the justice system and the executive branch. And don’t get me started on systemic discrimination in the country. I think Germany has done the bare minimum to integrate the people into the workforce as long as they were willed to be exploited (along everyone else in the low wages sector). The protest calling for a Kalifat were around 1300 people. To be clear the protests of Friday for Future were 10 times that and for multiple years on a regular basis in multiple cities across the country and we still are plagued by widespread climate change deniers and the passivity of our politicians. The fear of migrants simply is that more effective in the narrative. Were we as a society have failed is to integrate migrants into a German identity. This need of belonging is being exploited by demagogues and fundamentalists
@karlhaensel5 ай бұрын
"The culture war against radical Islam"? Wow. Hagen's words are still true. There is a lot more extremism in Germany besides islamic fundamentalism, especially from the far right (Reichsbürger etc.). With all the hatred - whether subliminal or open - that has been shown against Islam (like shown by Hagen Rether), we have made it particularly difficult for the liberal forces within Islam to win people over to their side and thus to our side, the side of our constitution. We should not make this mistake again. Extremists against our constitution must be fought, no matter which direction they come from. However, placing a religion under general suspicion for this only helps the wrong people! Like all extremists, the islamic fundamentalists rely on hate to get followers. Don't give them that power! Just let the rule of law be tough on them!
@RabenmundK5 ай бұрын
Well, since we also have rightwingers who want to get rid of Homosexuals, Trans people and foreigners with the argument that we are "a christian country", it is in my opinion insincere to claim that it is just a problem with Islam. The Gastarbeiter from Turkye didnt go to the streets to demand Sharia law or a Kalifat also, so that argument about "the Muslims" falls flat.

Strangely AfD is really weak there. It is really odd how rural areas vote for AfD because of things they have never seen or experienced. And of course there are major problems, but AfD blows them out of proportion, making things worse and of course they have no solution to anything.

As a former green voter and NOT an AfD voter, I am completely in agreement with all the headlines Hagen tried to drag into the dirt….it’s all come true now! Just as in the UK, where hundreds of thousand pro H@m@s demonstrators put fear into the hearts of Jewish citizens, or in France, where due to Islamic immigrants from former colonies the Jewish population has diminished noticeably…. Islamophobia was a word that has been introduced by Iranian intelligence, and it has worked very well for decades…no more…..!! We want to feel safe in parks, walking back home in the city after partying…that’s nearly impossible due to the massive danger the uncontrolled immigration by males from Islamic countries has done to not only Germany.
