Although she began her career in theater at the young age of 9 years old, Lea Salonga grew into prominence for playing the role of Kim in the musical, Miss Saigon which initially was presented at the West End in London in 1989. She won the Olivier Award for Best Lead Actress in that musical the following year. In 1991, she reprised the role on Broadway which won for her other distinguished awards as the Drama Desk, Outer Critics Circle and Theatre World Awards and becoming the first woman of Asian descent to win the coveted Tony Award. Her career took off after that with singing parts in Disney's Aladdin, Mulan, a recording career and gracing many concert stages around the world such as Carnegie Hall in NY, the Royal Albert Hall in the UK, the Sydney Opera House in Australia, the Esplanade in Singapore, to name a few. And yes, she played two parts in the hit musical, Les Miserable in two different decades first, as Eponine, then, as Fantine.

I've watched at least 50 reactor video's of Lea singing this MASTERPIECE and I rank yours right up there as one of my favorites! She is on a level reserved for only a few artists. LOL, at 75 yrs old, I didn't grow up hearing her, ( if memory serves right) my first time hearing her. What a lovely voice, good stage presents. Thank you for doing this. Lea was not in the movie. She performed the role of Eponine on stage. Lea later played Fantine in the 25th anniversary of Les Mis, her rendition of “I dreamed a dream” is also the gold standard. You should watch that video from Lea also. Look for her video from Ms. Saigon and her song “ I’d Give My Life For You” amazing performance. Also she does a great duet with the amazing Rachelle Ann Go of the song “The Movie in My Mind”

late here but this is tops. Lea started at 17 /18 as the star of the play Miss Saigon.... that was developed by the same folks that developed the play ' Les Miserables' ( from a famous 1840 era French novel ). this part is from the ' 10 th Anniversary concert of 'Les Mis' ( DVD, Utube ) which was an all star type Show on London stage. every single actor is tops, it is a master class in Broadway singing. Ms Salonga had a rather small part, actually but Her talent is as the others in the show, awesome. very strongly suggest everyone should watch the 10 th Anniv. show, some of best 3 hrs You'll spend.

I loved this concert performance. Two songs I'd love you to react to from this show are "A Little Fall of Rain" with Leah and Michael Ball (have the tissues ready) and Michael Ball singing "Empty Chairs at Empty Tables" (have another box of tissues). Leah originated this roll on stage in either the West End of London or in New York. This was the shows 10th Anniversary celebration. She also starred on Broadway in Miss Saigon.

I hate to be that person, but I feel the need to clear some things up. :) 1. It's Lea, not "Leah." 2. Lea didn't originate the role of Eponine. She first played Eponine on Broadway in 1993 (January-March), performed at the 10th Anniversary Concert in October 1995, and in 1996, performed in the U.S. national tour in Honolulu (September) and in the West End production.

Samantha Bark was in the Movie. Lea played Fantine and Eponine in different productions. You really want to be blown away listen to her duet "Movie in My Mind" from the 25th Anniversary Celebration of Miss Saigon. Flawless. She was not in the movie.

Lady Luck I remember commenting to your reaction to Katrina's Reflection cover of Mulan to which Lea is the original Disney princess (singing voice) and together with Alladin's Jasmine.....when it comes to musical theater achievements lots of us told you about her being a multi awarded talent in the long standing musical Miss Saigon on Broadway and West end to which she was the first ever Filipina to win a Tony award and this together with her stint at Les Miserables as Eponine and later on as Fantine. She now is a veteran Icon in Philippine music industry that is level up with Regine Velasquez and both are huge inspiration to new female artists that you've mostly reacted to and some your now favorites. LL...if you ever do something "out of the box"...I recommend watching this entire performance of the 10th anniversary concert of Les Miz. It is a who's who of great Broadway and West End voices. There are a few moments that are actually staggeringly beautiful. Lea Salonga is a world class Broadway/West End star and legend in the Philippines .

I believe you reacted to Lea Salonga (pronounced LAY-ah Suh-LONG-ah) singing with Il Divo previously. Lea is amazing. Started performing in theater in the Philippines at age 7. She played the leading role in the musical ANNIE at age 9, her first album released at age 10, she hosted a musical tv show with her brother during ages 12-14, and there were films, concerts, albums and tv appearances until she was 17. She was a freshman in college (17 years old) when she auditioned for the original MISS SAIGON and won the role after a worldwide search. Lea originated the lead role in London at age 18, won the Olivier award at age 19, starred on broadway at age 20 and won the Tony, Drama Desk, Outer Critics Circle and Theatre World Awards. Lea is the singing voice for 2 Disney Princesses: Jasmine (“A Whole New World”) and Mulan (“Reflection”). She has tons of other credits, but those are some of the highlights thru age 28! Lea is 51 now. This performance is from the 10th Anniversary Dream Cast concert of LES MISERABLES. Lea wasn’t in the film or original cast, but replaced on Broadway during the original run becoming the first Asian (and I think the first person of color) to play the role of Eponine. There wasn’t a lot of that kind of non-traditional casting going on in the early 90s, so it was a big deal. And with 10 years of people who had done LES MIZ in London plus other productions all over the world including Broadway - the fact that they chose Lea for the 10th anniversary concert is a big deal. Many of the other leading roles were cast with people who originated the parts in London or Broadway. I really hope you react to more of Lea.

Your reaction didn't surprise me - it gets everyone that way! This was at the tenth anniversary concert for Les Miserables, at the Royal Albert Hall in London, with a hand-picked 'dream cast' from the musical. Lea was the first Asian to play Eponine in the Broadway production of the show, but this was a special concert performance - so, just the songs, not the story. Later on Lea played Fantine in Les Mis and came back to sing Fantine's song 'I Dreamed a Dream' in the 25th anniversary concert. The movie came later, with a mostly different cast, and I think the emphasis was more on the story and the drama than the singing. But anyway, Lea wasn't in it.

Salonga was a replacement for Eponine in the Broadway production. She was too old to play the character by the time the movie was made. Salonga became famous playing Kim in "Miss Saigon" at the age of 17 in the original London production and later played the character on Broadway, winning Oliver and Tony Awards.
