If you didn't grow up in this time period (I was in High School when this concert happened) it can be difficult to understand what this, the crowd's energy and size was all about. This was the Monsters of Rock concert that was organized after the fall of the Berlin wall, and collapse of the Soviet Union. Western albums for these groups had been black market for decades and the people of the former Soviet Union finally saw that change. It was a crazy period of hope after what we thought was the end of the cold war, and this was just one of those iconic moments of the energy of that period. Again, it is just hard to understand unless you were around in the time period before and during all these events. It was an amazing period at that time. Sadly, I rarely see reactions to this video/concert, that even mention what exactly led to this moment/concert but it is important to have that context to truly appreciate it.

The song is about God punishing slavers in Egypt during passover, they were accused of being devil worshippers but they actually hated addiction, war & slavery they didn't hate God at all. Blessings from Puerto Rico.

Thanks for your reaction. You think that it's a big crowd ?--we only see the part of it facing the stage. If you want to see it all, look for Monsters of rock Moscow 1991 riots. It's what happened when the show started & before the bigger bands came on stage. It's a bit violent & bloody, though. But you'll see the whole 1.6 million crowd by helicopter. Nice sweater, by the way--I lived in Sherbrooke from 1986 until 1992. Have a nice day.

Hi Verdy, Metallica is one of my favorite bands (until the "Black Album"), thanks for reacting to them 🤘. In fact this song is included in the album Ride the Lightning, for me the best album of the band along with Master of Puppets. Maybe you could listen to this full album, it's much more digestible than their first album and songs like Escape, The Call of Ktulu (Lovecraft wink 🐙) or Fade to Black you will surely like. It is a masterpiece of thrash metal. 😵💫

J'aime vraiment tes réactions aux différentes musiques que tu découvre, je te suis pour chacune d'elles. Pour Metallica les meilleures albums à mon point de vue sont Ride the ligntning, Master of Puppets et And justice for all.

This show is interesting just for the fact that it was the first time Russia let in bands from the west. It is probably safe to say that most of the Russian audience here didn’t know any of the songs by any of the bands they saw. Given this, it would be worth your time to check out another performance of this song so you can see how an audience that actually knows Metallica and their songs so you can see how audiences usually react during this song. This is always one of the huge sing along moments in their concerts, and the Russian audience were clueless because they’d never heard this stuff before. No need to do a reaction video to it, but check out a different version, especially a more recent one, hopefully in the US or Canada and you’ll see what I mean. It is a sight to see, and is even better when you’re in the house with everyone. Crazy energy. James had to coach them here, but he usually doesn’t have to because all the fans already do it all on their own.

That’s not Cliff Richard and Elton John played there in the 70s in the 80s Billy Joel ,Uriah Heep also there was the Moscow music peace festival in 1989 that had Bon Jovi, Ozzy Osbourne, Scorpions , Motley Crue ,Cinderella and Skid Row

@@robertphelps1574 My mistake! This 1989 show was what I had in mind, but did not remember that it was 1989. For some reason I thought this Metallica set was part of that festival. Foggy memory, hehe.

Watching the band feel it too. They totally knew this was some next level shiz. Had to uphold back in the west too, that heavey metal genre is an expression to be moved by, like any other other music or art. But this band wrote about the worse possible situations to be in and still be alive, living hells.. taking stories and trying to feel it, then show it to you... or be there when if you're living it? We were meant to watch this footage and be moved.. Cheers Clayton for bringing this up bud!

Hey Verdy I don't know if you know this, but there was over a million people in that crowd, it was after the fall of the Iron Curtain & Russia was just dying for Western culture!!!!!!!

If I can give you an honest suggestion when they suggest you performances in the comments that are not from 85 92 their peak live search for the live version of the same song in that time span I can swear on everything it will be 1000 times better such aggression and best live performances just can't be compared to any other period of Metallica live

It's kinda like a biblical song from Them if you really listen to the lyrics it " Goes to Kill the first pharaohs son "
@jonlate45812 жыл бұрын
Not 'kinda,' it's taken directly from the book of Exodus and the story of Moses and passover. The band was watching the Charlton Heston movie The Ten Commandments, during the scene where the green mist descends Cliff said something about it looking like creeping death. That's where the song comes from. I'm no bible scholar but all the lyrics refer to that.

Interesting to see the black album bashing considering that's the album that made them historic legends in music, rather than just the best of their genre to be all but forgotten a few decades later. I prefer the earlier stuff too, but black album was a) their best produced album, and b) the album that sealed their legacy.
@jonlate45812 жыл бұрын
The Black Album was great, it just got WAY overplayed. Everything after that was really hit or miss for me, with way too many misses.
@JL-fg2vk Жыл бұрын
@Jon Late definitely overplayed, if I never hear nothing else matters again, I'd be fine with that, only because I've heard it too many times. In my opinion any 1 of the first 5 albums is better than anything since, which is sad cause it means they all, even james, blew their wad 30 years ago :(
