Thanks for the flag, lol. Biggest hit by Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds. I value Nick Cave as a singer beyond measure, but also as a songwriter. For Kylie Minogue it was a kind of breakthrough, although her career had already been extremely successful for a long time, she was taken seriously and respected for the first time by critics and music listeners outside of pop. She is a former protégé of the hit factory Stock Aitken Waterman. The song tells of a man who kills his lover. It is a parable about the transience of beauty, because "all beauty must die". It appeared on the 1996 album Murder Ballads, a collection of traditional and new ballads in this genre.

@@perrosol-ns4cc8ot4t You are welcome for flag, Michael. Go see if you recognize the scenery on your Spotlight Trophy. 😏 Thanks for explaining a little more about Nick and Kylie. Great for a stage play narration. 😁

One of the first songs I heard from the band. I like how their voices sound together. It is not an everyday song. More for calm evenings sitting by the fireside. :)

Nick cave biggest selling song. And Kylie minogue is the only female artist to have five decades of number one albums in the British U.K. album charts

@@craigproctor9560 Wow, 5 decades?! I dont follow her, so I didn't realize she is well over 50 years old. 🤔 Thanks for commenting.

@@tazzznphilly IKR? It's some kinda witchcraft or something. I remember her cover of Locomotion well (Carole King and her husband Gerry Goffin or Gofford or whatever, first hit by Little Eva who babysat their kids, then Grand Funk Railroad) Kylie was 3rd to hit with it way back in the early 1980s.

It's based on folklore about two perceptions of desire and obsession and yes a narrative of Eliza unaware of the imminent demise of her existence. Also referring to Shakespeare's death of Ophelia, so definitely that stage plot kind of vibe. Cheers and enjoyed your reaction 🙏🏽

This is from an album called "Murder Ballads" which "does what it says on the tin" 😁 The songs on that album are all kind of narrative and most of his work tends in that direction - his vocal also generally tends towards talk-singing so maybe he isn't for you but he really is a quality artist so you ought to try a few more of his numbers before you make that call

I think the reason I really enjoy weirdass shit like this is watching folk festivals on PBS all the way back when it was NET. IDK if this is traditional or new, like Michael describes Murder Ballads, but I would not be surprised to learn it's an ancient classic, like so many morbid old folk songs I loved since I was a kid. The creepy video only enhanced my enjoyment.

Hi! Nick Cave wrote this song especially for Kylie Minogue, with whom he had been planning a collaboration for some time. However, it is clearly influenced by the traditional Irish murder ballad Down In The Willow Garden, which can be found in the repertoire of many folk musicians, but also, for example, the Everly Brothers. In that respect, your assessment is not so far-fetched, because the influences are clearly audible. Otherwise, you seem to be an exception, because what has always surprised me is that Cave never really made it in the USA. So far I haven't found a real answer. This song with MV is also a symbol of this. While Australia, England and continental Europe succumbed to his morbid charm, he never really made it in the USA, although the critics in the major American periodicals were positive to euphoric in their reviews. An adaptation to American tastes has not yet been successful, although Americans love their Jim Morrison, Lou Reed and Leonard Cohen. The new Bad Seeds album The Wild God was released at the end of August. A gem, but I don't think it will be a success in the USA.
