If you only do one song in swedish from the Carolus Rex album I would suggest En Livstid i Krig (A Lifetime of War), the live recording from Gothenburg. (The in-video subtitles are not the best but there are several better translations in the comments on that video and elsewhere online.) I would also suggest the alternate version of Gott Mitt Uns that goes Noch Ein Bier (One More Beer in german), just for fun. ;)

A lot of people suggest this. It’s already done haha. Imma pin your comment so others can see. I didn’t realize it was from this album at the time, or I forgot. kzbin.info/www/bejne/bnS3lquNjNudl8k

The first voice you heard was not Joakim. It was the producer Peter Tägtgren on vocals. Peter Tägtgren is an fantastic artist. He's a swedish producer but allso has the bands Pain and Hypocrisy. Peter has allso worked with Till Lindemann from Rammstein in the band Lindemann. Peter can sing, scream, play drums, guitar and bass. Sabaton has worked with Peter on three albums. Carolus rex, Heroes and The Last Stand. He has produced so many albums through the years. If you wanna hear some darker song with Peter in action. Listen to Hypocrisy newest album.

I've listened to this over a hundred times (no exaggeration) and never noticed this...and honestly I still can't hear it. What part of the lyrics exactly does Peter sing? Only the first line or the entire verse? Because I swear the "we're *ready* do die" and especially the "Breitenfeld!!!" are definetly Joakim. Like maybe the backing vocals, but you started the comment with "the voice you heard was not Joakim" so I have to ask...are you really sure? And if so I'm gonna need the source on that information (not out of doubt, rather disbelief)...well to the extend that you remember, just if it's from an interview or something from a making of.

The way they handle doing the songs in Swedish vs English is actually really cool. Instead of trying to translate it to English 1:1, they actually tell the story of the song from a different perspective. A really good example of this is listening to “A Lifetime of War” and “En livstig i Krig” back to back. It’s completely different lyrics - telling the story of the 30 years war on a different perspective. For that reason I would recommend listening to the English vs Swedish versions back to back, instead of going into one or the other cold. Even if you listen to the English one off screen first and then immediately react to the Swedish one and disclose that, it’ll be a lot more impactful.

Love watching your reactions to Sabaton, my favorite album is Carolus rex. Your input seems very genuine and its clear that you understand music which is why i keep watching you. Sabaton and Thåström are my 2 favorite bands from Sweden. As a Norwegian i am kind off jealous at the swedes when it comes to their bands and their music history😅

Carolus Rex, still with the old lineup, is a great album and the collaboration with Peter Tägtgren has more than worked out. It also sounds great in the Swedish version. Oh yes, the 30-year war.... you don't even want to think about it. First religious war, then territorial war.

On the latest US tour Sabaton mostly sung this song in Swedish and with Chris singing the first verse and Tommy the second verse. There is fan videos out with good sound quality. And Tommy wasn't in Sabaton when they recorded the Carolus Rex album

The verses were sung by Peter Tägtgren, their producer at the time. He's also the vocalist and guitarist of the Industrial/Heavy Metal band Pain. Sabaton seem to really like Industrial Metal bands cuz their current producer is Jonas Kjellgren, bassist of Raubtier, a band I can really recommend. Ironically, when Sabaton broke up in 2012, the first guy they called to play guitar for them was Pär Hulkoff, the guitarist and vocalist of Raubtier. However, Hulkoff said no because he was so invested in Raubtier but later called Pär Sundström (bassist and manager of Sabaton) that his current bassist, Thorbjörn "Tobbe" Englund was interested. Also, when performing this song live, Tbooe was usually the one who did the verses. Pär Hulkoff and Jonas Kjellgren, along with Mattias "Buffeln" Lind, drummer of Raubtier, are also the founding members of Bourbon Boys, a Country Rock band.

The Carolus Rex albums where cleverly designed. "En Livstid I Krig" is written in the point of view of a solider, while the English version "A Lifetime of War" does the 30 years war as a whole. Another song that does this is "1648" the song is about a siege. One version if based from the perspective of the defenders while the over is the attackers. Band members for this album Joakim Brodén - vocals Pär Sundström - bassist Oskar Montelius - guitarist Rikard Sundén - guitarist Daniel Myhr- keyboard player Daniel Mullback - drummer

Well, "Ruina Imperii" is in Swedish even on the English album, so you'll have no choice there :P Other than Ruina, I'd suggest "Lejonet från Norden", partly since the chorus is in Latin, so it's the same (well almost).

This song is awesome too if you think of the history of this while listening to it. As this about battle of Breitenfeld where the Swedish army is lead by King Gustav II Adolf where they took on the Catholic League and the Habsburg Imperial Army. The Swedes soldiers went into battle with the war cry "Gott mit uns" (God with us) yelling it constantly the whole battle. Spreading fear to the enemy as like the song says, the imperial army retreated 7 times. After seven hours of battle, the Swedish-Saxon army was victorious. So when you lsiten to the song it feels like you hear thousand cries of soldiers with their king yelling "gott mitt uns" while charging.

Im a Finnish christian. the first person in my family tree was a finnish soldier in the swedish army centuries ago. back then alot of people didnt really have surnames, so they just gave them to peasant soldiers in a line. thats how my family line was started. i resonate with this song alot, its made for nordic freedom, christianity and our self rule. even tho we were under the swedish rule for over 600 years, im glad we were under the rule of our nordic brothers. that is why our country is so prosperous even today. swedes werent too harsh on us, unlike the russians.

Nice reaction Dave! I figured you would like this one cause that melody has that same vibe as the their song Unions which you already reacted to. I just like the pacing of this one gets the adrenaline going. And yeah bro let’s go down the rabbit hole and do some Swedish versions. I recommend Carolus Rex for the Swedish version.

Yes the swedish version is better, especially live, i particular love the live swedish version from the DVD they made that was recorded in France in the city of Nante, where they actually sang it without Joakim being on stage but the rest of the band took turns singing different parts of the song.
