80 law enforcement officers. Refusing to go in for 43 minutes as they and the families outside could hear children and teachers being shot. THATS the real story. THEN when they "went in", it took 48 minutes to get to the shooter. Pathetic. THATS the real story.

The real story ist, that these things don't happen anywhere else in the world as frequently as in the US. Your problem is a societal problem, the biggest problem being a hardcore pro gun lobby and a mindset regarding guns which is completely outdated. Not some cop overwhelmed with the situation when it already happened or not enough armed guards.

and that just goes to show that professionals who have been trained couldn't stop the killing. Giving teachers guns may help a little. Having a security guard may help a little. Carolina’s argument is problematic in so many ways. Faulty Claim 1: We focus too much on the guns, and not the person. We don’t blame a car when someone gets killed in a car accident. The reality is that we do blame the car, and that’s why the government has mandated so many safety measures, from anti-lock brakes to third brake lights to side air bags. Through the years, we’ve come to respect the damage and carnage that a car can inflict, and that’s why we’ve made them safer BY LAW. We also make cars safer by restricting access to those who have proven that they cannot drive responsibly. So if you have a DUI, your driving privileges are temporarily revoked, and ultimately taken away after a certain number of violations. Faulty Claim 2: Evil will find evil, so preventative measures will not be effective. Yes, it’s true that evil people will do evil things, but when we make it harder for people to do evil things, less evil happens. Patrick goes over the timeline of events leading up to the shooting, and he states that the gunman BOUGHT a gun in the days prior. Now, what if we made it harder for the gunman to purchase the gun? What if we had a background check that could take into account his threatening social media posts, and the text messages he sent to the girl about posting his gun pics? It’s reasonable to say that if more stringent background checks were in place, the shooter would not have been able to purchase that gun. And while he may have found other ways to inflict evil, perhaps the carnage would not have been so great because he would not have access to an automatic weapon. Faulty/Hypocritical Claim 3: Politicians are using this event to promote their agenda. Well, that’s true to some degree. However, Carolina is doing just that by talking about gun control and defunding the police (which most of us can agree has very little to do with preventing mass shootings). It’s very clear here that her first priority is to defend gun rights and the Second Amendment, and she’s using this opportunity to do so with an extremely weak analogy between how we view guns and how we view cars. It’s just a very weak analogy. I wish you guys would have called her out on that, and I’m a bit surprised you guys let her get away with it. I commend Patrick for bringing the conversation back to focusing on solutions, because that’s what we need. When you have a wound, you need to take any measures necessary to stop the bleeding, and perhaps hiring armed guards to protect every school is something we might need in the short term, as drastic as that might seem. In the meantime, why not make it harder for evil people to do evil things, just like we make it harder for drunk drivers to drive cars? More stringent background checks would help that become a reality. The timeline of events in Uvalde proves this to be true.

Literally took the word out of my mind. I can’t believe the panel even responded with “oh yea such a good point”. This is not literal, but everyone has a car, we use them every day, for all intents an purposes, we have the same one, and we aren’t killing 20 people with one car. It’s not remotely the same. What was this kid going to do if he couldn’t buy the gun? Hit up the local black market? Order the parts and build the gun? There are many ways he could still make it happen, but like you said, it would definitely be a deterrent. One point that I don’t necessarily agree with is the authorities being able to comb your text messages and private Facebook messages simply because you are applying to purchase a gun. That’s too much

From Dr. Park Dietz’s mouth to God’s ear: “When we engage in an obsessive questioning of why a shooter did it, we are granting their [sic] exact wish.” Dr. Dietz, a forensic psychiatrist and researcher, has personally evaluated many mass murderers and has provided expert testimony in numerous criminal trials. His conclusion (and here I quote from Hamlet rather than Dietz): “Though this be madness, yet there is method in’t.” What Dietz has found is that there is a common motive behind these mass shootings. The details vary in each case, but these shooters obsessively blame others for their problems and fantasize about the attention and historic notoriety that their savage act will provoke. The key to ending, or at least minimizing, the plague of mass killings, is to deprive the shooters of what they crave most: Fame. This is precisely what The New York Times gets wrong (along with most other news media) - and don’t think they don’t understand the risk. We’ve been on this merry-go-round of violence long enough for anyone with a lick of sense to realize that publicizing slaughter begets copycat slaughter. Don’t put the killer’s face on the landing page of The New York Times’ website. Don’t analyze and interpret his scribbling, social media posts, clothing, or graphic symbols. After John Wilkes Booth’s accomplices in the Lincoln assassination plot were executed, one Washington newspaper wrote, “we wish to know their names no more.” Exactly - that’s the posture we need our news media to adopt. Of course, this stands in opposition to the media quest for ever more clicks and eyeballs.

We need to deny the killers of the fame they seek. And we also need to deny them of life in prison, and use the death penilty for these cases. The cases with video and first person accounts should expidite putting these people to death. Im tired of hearing of mitigating factors like he had no father, drug problems, bullying etc. These are no reasons to limit the penilty for killing another person. Guns do one thing; solve a situation or kill a perp. They are not going to solve the unacknowledged crisis of sociopathic young men that we are breeding. Social media has been one of the largest catalysts for creating a generation that derives values from virtue signals and are completely apathetic to real world problems. Good discussion on possible solutions. Hopefully they take action to implement the easier/faster solutions first. Another idea would be tactical robotics at every entry point. Basically another set of “eyes” to supplement the guards blind spots. However that robotic device or small figure may look is limitless and up to the human imagination. We can put a robot on mars, launch an origami telescope into space and even construct a particle accelerator that can detect a black hole gravitational wave, so this small robotic figure as mentioned shouldn’t be impossible relative to these. Violence in schools like this will never be fully solved, however to limit it as much as possible, I suggest the following: 1. Create programs easily accessible to the public that provide free and high quality gun training, and the amount of hours one has in that program should determine the level of firearm they can purchase (sorry but there does need to be some regulation) 2. Require all public schools to lock doors leading outside during school hours 3. Require education for students on how to spot, report, and prevent an event like this before it happens 4. For every 250 students in a public school, there should be 1 trained armed guard in the building. So if there are 1,000 students, there should be 4 armed guards for example.

@@Nochenoso slavery comment makes no sense in this context. It was never a constitutional right. You have to put slavery in a philosophical and historical context for the comment to be relevant. The whole concept of individual rights is relatively new and western. Nothing wrong with debating if guns should be a right or not. Discussion of the practicality of individual rights including the rights to own guns is legitimate but, This is mostly a philosophical issue that revolves around individual rights between safety vs security. Many argue freedom is paramount while others want safer lives. Both ideas have good and bad consequences. This argument goes on in the US always as well. Not everyone believes in gun rights. I don’t own a weapon but, I think people should have the right. I think the potential consequences of oppression of an unarmed citizenry outweighs safety concerns. Of course the extreme examples of this are nazi Germany, North Korea and communist China. Of course many European countries enjoy relative freedom without arms. A legitimate discussion could include why this is the case. But, one thing is very overlooked. Murder is murder and death is death. When you have almost 350000000 in a country bad things will happen everyday. School shooting is extremely rare. It’s just the media is capable of capturing everything that goes on in every town everyday. The odds of driving to school is more likely to end in death than attending school. The odds of playing school sports is also more likely to end in serious injury or death. Even leaving your child at home is more likely to end in a deadly accident. People make risk benefit analysis with there own children all the time. It may sound cold but, every picks and chooses their tragedy or risk tolerance.

You guys were so close to the answer and brushed right over it, literally. The answer is simple. Mental illness. The state of mental health in our country these days is atrocious. There are so many people from normal average blue collar people to White collar Wall Street people to vets to college kids and even counselors and therapists and psychologists since psychiatrists themselves are all looking for psychiatric or mental help of some type. There are not nearly enough providers. As someone who suffers from depression and is in the active hunt for a psychologist myself to help me deal with some serious tragedies and internal turmoil, I can tell you first hand how hard it is to find any psychiatrist or counselor of any type, let alone one you fit with well, and forget about getting one of a high caliber or a supreme pedigree. Not unless you have enough money where you don't suffer from the kind of problems that I've got. You just have to take whatever one you can find and make it work for however long it will work or until they drop you because their schedule is too busy. Next, we need to take the financial incentive out of the prison and jail institutions. There are far too many people sticking their hands in the honey pot and making money off of the people they send to jail directly. It's fucking disgusting. I also have experience in that area of society as well. Once you take away the incentive to financially profit I bet a huge portion of the incarcerated population drops. And who gets incarcerated? Drug addicts and people with mental health issues. Drug addicts are another issue. Not because they're drug addicts but because we have no structures or any kind of support system set up for them at all. People have no idea how long it takes to actually truly recover from drug addiction. The longest rehab you will find reasonably in the United States last 6 months at the very longest. If you are, let's say for example, addicted to methamphetamine, it takes your brain up to a year to repair the synapses and damage done to it. Not to mention the every single second of your life struggle from that point on which is what it means to be a drug addict. People can't afford to move out of the way they live most of the time so they end up going right back to the same old places with the same old people doing the same old things and end up in the same old institutions with the same old problems. That's the problem. We also need to remove the stigma from people who have addiction problems. You'd think by now ppl would understand that it affects anyone, regardless of social status or any other factor. Yet, we still treat addicts like homeless muts with leprosy. Look into how people with mental illnesses and drug addicts are treated over in Europe, the Netherlands specifically. Their rehabs are like resorts where they actually have time and staff to devote to each person to get to the actual root of the cause of the addiction and do whatever they can to fix it. It is a complete 180° treatment compared to the revolving doors we have as rehabs here. So those things, overall mental health for the whole population, and I would also tie that with encouraging the nuclear family where both parents are in the home with the kids and raising them together. That's another huge part of it. Also, take the money out of incarceration and rehab facilities, as well as reverse the stigma in both areas and I would also propose that we need better training for police officers, not more of them. At the beginning of this comment I said this answer was simple. I don't mean that. It is far from simple, what I should have said was that there was one main reason. And I believe mental illness filters off into many if not all of these other topics. If there's a person whose brain isn't working right, they aren't going to act right either. The nuclear family must be upheld and the devices need to be either extremely limited or done away with all together. Social media is the end of the cyst of what implies. And I think they knew that was going to be the case all along. Perhaps not at the very very beginning, maybe they had virtuous goals, but they sold those morals a long time ago.

In good faith I ask those whove deemed this situation a policing scandal - what makes it so? I lack much of the information needed to perform such an analysis and make such a broad statement. Is this not true for everyone else? Why is this such a scandal? Did police send a crisis negotiator? Theres still many unknowns so its impossible to know what the logic was, but let's take a guess; the police got a call from a grandmother and then went into pursuit of the grandson. He wrecked and ran into a school. The police had no information to believe he would start executing kids in the school. They likely assumed a "rational actor" going into school was doing so to get a negotiation chip or hostages. So they probably thought to evacuate everyone they could and at the same time to not rush in at the risk of this grandson making any brash moves. So they want to get a professional hostage negotiator in the belief that it would save the most lives. The only piece of information that changes the equation is if the girl he told of killing kids at a school relayed that info to police. If so, you would think there would be enough bayesian priors to take the risk of going into the room. If not, than it's likely protocol to not just rush into a room with that many hostages. It's a terrible predicament for police. Then as parents came along, it makes sense police wouldn't want non-police citizens (parents or not) to Rambo into a classroom which they possess external control over with potential hostages. The police have a protocol for these situations. It certainly wouldnt contain a section that allows for regualar citizens to do something like this. Maybe there protocol needs to be changed given complex circumstances, but it's tough to say without having it in front of us. But the sad reality is that nearly anyone can go into a school, daycare , after school program, park, or most places in society and start killing people if they are that messed up mentally/morally and already hell-bent on killing. Police alone are not enough of a deterrent or mitigating factor to stop these situations from happening. It will take a multi-pronged approach of mental health, operation security, parenting, moral guidance, and some common sense forms of gun control. Unfortunately, this will be framed as a gun control issue but its much, much more. Our societies spiritual, moral, parental, and mental health is deteriorating. If this kid was hell-bent on killing kids he could had made many homemade explosives and killed just as many people if not more. What's worse is with the advent of 3d printers anyone can make guns. And generally if you got rid of the legal registered guns than it would provide asymmetric power to criminals who possess non-registered guns over society. It's a difficult situation. For sure. I dont have the answers. But eithor do the pundits and politicians who are often just virtue signaling to their liberal base who also have no clue the 2nd, 3rd, and nth order effects. As an independent left-leaning minded person I've seen to many conversations and debates get derailed by lack of good faith and trying to politicize an issue into a linear solution when it needs a complex multi variant one. Both sides are truly guilty of this. A quick example is guns for the left and drug law policing on the right(albeit many factions of the right seem to be changing on this). I'll finish by saying this is why free speech is insanely important and is the lynchpin of an effective democracy.

Either way the fact it's even discussed shows to what level the normalization of guns within the American society is. The response is always more guns. Good luck but I really think nothings going to change, we can only hope we don't see more copy cats because there is no way to control it if enough people decide they just want to shoot up a public place, school, place of worship, mall etc. it's an out of control situation that you just hope doesn't erupt.

FIRST POINT OF ACTION - No NRA lobbyist money to any Government or political member anywhere in America. All political Men & Women from the top, down can no longer take any money from NRA. Then move forward from here. It all starts with Governments.

The NRA has been an near insignificant for almost 10 years. I know many people like to point at them as the boogeyman, but you are highly incorrect if you think they have ANY blame for this. And no I'm not a member. This is a problem of democrats turning down every single measure everyone else has tried to suggest while screaming nothing is being done.

Great debate, Thank You! If I may add, I would like to see schools that have security systems in place in case there is breaking at night that there have surveillance cameras all around the school perimeter, that there is actually someone checking these cameras, I agree with the guards but that are there to work checking bags, etc. It is concerning to men to visit schools am not see security measures in place. Or they have them only during school hours…. I’ll give a couple of examples, I went to an event at one of the schools in my area, It was a play for three nights in a row, the doors were open to the public, there are no guards at the entrance or in the hallways… I happen to have been volunteering that day, I could have hid in one of the classrooms spend a whole night there, no buddy checked for me if I was a volunteer or not. Also, after school programs for adults, continuing education classes…. There is no one, checking or taking assistance of who comes and goes…. Again, it’s very easy to hide and sit the night. This to me is un believable!!! And I thank God, thank the universe because there are more good people in this world than they are bad, it saddens me and it scares me for my children and our country’s children. It seems to me that whenever this tragic events happen, we all get in protection mode, do this do that, change this… etc but we fall complacent and comfortable and we seem to forget so quickly and don’t continue to enforce our changes and safety measures with the most vulnerable. Please, make a change and keep the change in place! It’s unfortunate but these are the time we live in. We are a at war in our own society. God bless!

Thank you for sharing this topic, my question is? From what I understand by law that all school property doors are to be locked at all times with cameras.... And it seems like there was no one attending the front door when this incident occurred. I know everyone's pointing at gun laws, but where is the responsibility of the school superintendent, security, about making sure the school doors were locked with cameras prior to this event again thank you great topic 🤝

Guns are not the problem. Look, politicians in government buildings are protected with guns. Banks are protected also with guns. Therefore, schools should also be protected with guns, because children are more important than politicians ! That's why the 2nd Amendment says, "the right of the people to keep and bear arms shall not be infringed". Protect yourselves with guns, folks. Don't be defenseless against criminals.

@@goosecouple no one is against that. But mentally ill and felons should not have the right to just purchase a deadly firearm just because no one wants to compromise. Do you give the keys to your car to someone who hasnt drove in his life? Well same thing for mantally ill people, why would want them to have guns? No logic at all

Catalina is absolutely Correct with her First Statements. Evil Beget's Evil. Depends on Your Understanding of Spiritual and Religious Study and HOW much Study You've done, there are People who are Born without a Soul or with an Evil Soul. (Don't Hate on Me because I've Studied many Subjects most People have never heard of). My Entire Childhood I NEVER had any Friends. I WAS the Kid EVERYONE Picked on, taunted, physically attacked and then I'd go Home for even worse Psycological and Physical Attacks from my Parents and Siblings. DAILY! I Dreaded Weekends, let me tell You! NOT ONCE! NEVER! The thought of Killing or Hurting anyone NEVER Crossed my Mind! I I'm sure God had to have at least 10 Answering machines for the amount of messages I was sending! Here I am at 55 now, I still Don't Hold Grudges or bring up past Issues with anyone. That's all water Under the Bridge. It's Gone- I don't agree with Everybody flipping out that Society needs to lose Our Freedoms. There is something Unstable Mentally in these People who do these kinds of actions. Parent's for some reason fail to recognize Antisocial behavior. Parents need to be interested enough in their child to daily sit and Converse, pay attention to what Your Child is telling You. Just Be there! As a Society? The Media Must Stop GLORIFYING and giving these Mentally I'll People such a Center Stage Recognition-FOR THE ACT THEY COMMITTED! That recognition is what they NEEDED since Birth that they never got. That Glorification also Inspires the Next Mentally I'll person to think- Heya- I CAN be FAMOUS Too!

I was wondering if Valuetainment would be willing to help with the production or at least the help setting up and will offer a percentage of or a contract to return double in return when the podcast is self sustainable. Please Lmk.

I am alway the helper in my family and friends. When I ask for help from them I always recieve none. I'm just to that point where I'm willing to ask anyone because this is my dream career that I want and the sort of career I want to do until I retire. I only need help with the business and technical ends. I am great at ideas like a comic much like Rogan. Perhaps its being born within 12hrs and having many of the same problems with overcoming self esteem and what our youth and family life aligned. I know I wont be a Joe Rogan. But I do want something that can blossom my life and not be stuck as an employee working minimum wages and no benefits but a 401k. And this is my passion. Speaking with people to find solutions is my passion. I however am too passionate I'm sure any elections i would participate would be rigged to disclude me from running like Tulsi Gabbards run for president went.
