I was a very shy 17 year old when this album dropped. I heard 'How Soon Is Now?' and didn't feel alone in this world. Other people feel like I do! This song put into words and musical notes how I felt inside. I struggled through high school and trying to understand its psychotic social heirarchy. This song basically threw me a life preserver !

This song - which guitarist, Johnny Marr, described as The Smiths' "most enduring record" - is about their frontman Morrissey's crippling shyness. It has since become an anthem for the alienated and socially isolated.

The panned tremolo effect was Johnny marr's guitar going through two amps in stereo with a delay setting. Johnny only able to record the effect for 12 seconds at a time. The sound would be become unstable and washed out if it was longer. The other effect is done by bending and sliding the strings on the guitar
@wolf762x512 жыл бұрын
There's a great tutorial on how to do it if you're gonna play this song at a gig.

You can use a guitar slide for that effect. It's how Johnny Marr's current guitarist does it.

Love Spit Love (fronted by the singer of The Phychadelic Furs) remade it for the movie "The Craft" in the 90's, which in turn was the inspiration for using it as the opening theme for "Charmed," but the original from The Smiths can't be beat.

Love this song from early childhood and when it was used in The Craft and when a cover was used as the theme song for the tv show Charmed which I loved because I got into Wicca in the mid 90’s, edit actually The Craft used the same Cover by the band Love Spit Love and not the original by the Smiths which are one of the proto goth/emo bands
