When Jimmy released the Soul tribute album "Soul Deep" in 1990, it displayed his love for the soul classics and his career benefited fantastically. He released a follow up album titled "Soul Deeper" which is also very good. I recently attended the 30th Anniversary tour of "Soul Deep" and it was very tasteful but with that Barnes rock energy & production quality
