The “she” in the song is cocaine. A lot of his songs have a double meaning when he’s talking about a woman it’s actually a metaphor for drug addiction

When you said it has an 80s feel to it, this song is critically acclaimed for its Michael Jackson feel, very 80s-90s. He’s noted Michael Jackson as a vocal inspiration and it shows full display on I Can’t Feel My Face, the harmonies, the ad-libs and vocals are on point. The Weeknd has his own style. I don’t think you can name it, but whatever it is, he’s killing it. Just remember, this man did not get nominated for a Grammy this year and he deserves it, He deserves a Grammy.

About the video: The Weeknd always tells a story through his videos for each album. It is a continuation. The man that sets him on fire is also in “The Hills” video, as well as “Tell your friends”. There is a story about the guy himself which i won’t get into right now (i can over analyze and talk about this for hours) :D What i do want to say about this “Can’t feel my face” video, is that he is singing and pouring his soul out about his darkest secrets (drugs) and how people are not amused and seemingly bored throughout his performance, even with the catchy tune. It is only when he is set on fire that people actually start listening and dancing to his song, which is a representation about Hollywood and fans and popularity. Like, only when you have certain status and look a certain way you go completely mainstream (also when he is walking out of the club at the end still on fire you can see kind of a flash forward of a new Weeknd without the big haircut (he cut his haircut later before/ for the Starboy era).

I was cruising KZbin recently and discovered a Russian talent show contestant that did just that, with one of the best, most unique voices I've heard in many years. Her delivery was nothing short of magical and I searched out more and more and more, and...more chills. I was stunned to find that the first performance I heard was when she was 14!!!!
