The Life and Times of Scrooge McDuck is a comic book written by Don Rosa who is the animator in the video. Don Rosa is very famous in Europe for his Donald Duck stories, but not that famous in the US. He did not invent Scrooge, but Don Rosa is a huge fan of Carl Barks, maybe the most famous Donald Duck writer, who did invent the character. This album was inspired by the comic book I mentioned earlier, not for a film or series. It’s just something Tuomas had in him that he needed to get out. And it is a fantastic album, so you should check out more of the songs👍

Don Rosa won an Eisner Award (sort of an Oscar for comic books/graphic novels) for the series, which is now thankfully back in print. Toumas has joked that this is probably the first time anyone has bothered writing a soundtrack to a graphic novel, lol.

The lead singer here is Toumas' wife Johanna. The guitarist is Mikko Iivanainen (not Emppu sorry!) and his wife, also Johanna, was the second vocalist. There is a project comprising Tuomas, Johanna and Troy called Auri which is so good too. There is a video of Tuomas and Don Rosa being interviewed about how The Lifetime of Adventure came about. Tuomas answers in Finnish with subtitles, Don in English so it's a little disjointed but it's an interesting story. It's called Aku Ankan toimitus haastattelee: Tuomas Holopainen ja Don Rosa.

The Aku Ankka (Donald Duck) magazine is still very popular in Finland. The team behind it is amazing. There has been a character "Hopolainen" named after Tuomas Holopainen. Goofy is "Hessu Hopo" in Finnish. Tuomas himself has written lines to that character. There was another character "Hymynen" in the same story. Hymynen, hymy is the Finnish for smile, was named after Jouni Hynynen from the band Kotiteollisuus. He has written lines to his character. Tuomas plays keys, again after many years, on the upcoming Kotiteollisuus album. Jouni announced the good news by posting a picture of Tuomas playing the keys with the text: "The cantor is on the premises." When Don Rosa visited Finland, Tuomas was there, of course, and told him about his long time dream to write music inspired by Don Rosa's book. He was wondering who this guy is, a metal musician? He did not know what to expect. I think it was mayby years later when Tuomas contacted Don Rosa again and said the recordings of the album will start soon in London. You can find an interview with Tuomas and Don Rosa on YT. Check out "Kotiteollisuus Himosfestival 2010". My favorite is the song "Satu Peikoista", starting at the 43:43 mark. Tuomas on keys! (Jouni's current wife, the actress, Mari Perankoski, used to be my mothers tenant. She plays the role of a hooker in one of Kotiteollisuus' music videos.) The main vocalist in this song you just reacted to is Johanna Kurkela, Tuomas' wife. This was recorded in 2014, they got married in 2017. It was a low key wedding. You might want to watch "Rakkauslaulu" Live version. The song is her biggest hit. The album version has 12 million views. Rakkauslaulu = Love Song. Tuomas and Johanna have created crossword puzzles that have been published. Just for the fun of it.

Don Rosa is a superstar when he walks the streets in Europe, while being virtually unknown in his home country. And he isn't the original creator of any of the disney characters. He is, however, one of the most beloved comic book artists in the entire world, and such a lovely, lovely man all around. Saw him in Bergen (Norway) a few times, signing books and selling his home grown chillies from Kentucky. God, I love that man and his work. Edit: Scrooge McDuck appeared in comics first. Created by Carl Barks. And while the design is simmilar, Scrooge and the professor are different characters (Scrooge is just Donald with sideburns, when everything is said and done, design-wise).

Tuomas talked about the idea for giving back to Disney cause it's been a life saver for him since early childhood. He dreamed this and then he had that dream come true. He made an whole album 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻

A Lifetime of Adventure of Scrooge McDuck is Tuomas' favorite book so he wrote the soundtrack for the event it will be made into a film (which still hasn't happened) and every song on the album is worth listening... his personal favourite song he said is "The last sled"

Very happy that you enjoyed this song. This one is very important to me as a song and this album is just fantastic look into Scrooge McDucks life in Klondike. As Erwin below said, that lady singing in video is Tuomas's wife Johanna who is an amazing singer (and absolutely one of the most kind and amazing person!) and her voice suits these songs so well. She also sings in Auri that Tuomas and Troy (from Nightwish) are part too!

Tuomas wrote an album for his side project Auri, that has his wife johanna, singing, and Troy from nightwish. The album contains this song, the Klondike and I think 6 other songs. He said in an interview that he wrote this album the same time he wrote nightwishes album, endless forms most beautiful.

Scrooge McDuck was created way back in 1947 while Ludwig von Drake was first introduced in 1961. Also Don Rosa wrote and illustrated some of the best Uncle Scrooge comics there are.

The Don Rosa's graphic novel of Scrooge McDuck is a phemonal piece of art that was very important to Tuomas as a kid and continues to be as an adult. Not too surprising as these stories are massively beloved among the Finns and other Europeans. It is a shame to us that he's not getting the same recognition in his home country. If you're interested in graphic novels (Like the Watchmen from DC) then you absolutely need to check Life and Times of Scrooge McDuck. It is far grittier and darker than DuckTales. It does have it's own share of silliness and over the topness as well of course.

Scrooge McDuck was created by Carl Barks, with first appearance on his Donald Duck comic book story ”Christmas on Bear Mountain”. Barks is _the_ most legendary DD artists and Rosa is his successor. Highly recommend their work for anyone regardless of age. 🦆👌🤘

Disney did a reboot of Duck Tales recently, and it is currently still airing. They keep dropping hints about his background, but during his lifetime, he has defeated and befriended Greek Gods, and along with his nephews, represented humanity against the Norse Gods in a WWE style anything goes wrestling match against Ragnarok to stop the end of the world. He also managed to accidently curse his parents and siblings with immortality. He is full of hubris and vanity, but he isn't wrong when he believes he can do almost anything. He is a professional adventurer, in the current show, Goldy was his old partner, but in the current day, they had a falling out. He is apparently also responsible for the Santa Claus of his world using reindeer and leaving presents for children, although, in Scrooge's version, he wanted to give them all coal and leave them a bill for it, so Santa's version was better. Scrooge had a falling out with Santa because he felt like he never got credit for the elements he added to the mythology. They finally worked things out this past Christmas, where Scrooge finally understood why Santa does it.

Donald and Scrooge are huge thing in Finland. Tuomas is also big fan. Most of us now midle aged are learned to read with those comics. Also me, first just watch pictures and after that "mommy i think i can read"

Also the beautiful woman who sings in beginning, that darker haired beaty is Johanna Lead vocalist of Tuomas's and Troy's other band called Auri. And Johanna is Tuomas's wife also. 1 more remark. If that would be younger Emppu, he'd had to been brought there by time machine from year 1999-2002, and he would have his signature ESP EV-1 guitar. Not that what ever Iivanainen played. U really have thick skull when u try to understand how much music Tuomas has done, and constantly thinks/writes during concerts even.

I thought von drake was Donald's other uncle, from fathers side. But as i just checked, Disney cant decide how it goes..He is also said to be married to Donald's mothers sister..or related by fathers ancestors. But, he has appeared several times in comics at same time as Scrooge, so different people. And yes, i take my Ducks seriously.

Thank you for this review! Rosa was the successor to Carl barks, the originator and best duck artist . We are very lucky that Don Rosa existed, was a fan and stepped into the breech. Barks had his style which Rosa could imitate flawlessly, but gradually incorporated his own style into the art. I'm 72 and still follow Scrooge...

Okay, there's a wikipedia entry for this album. It isn't just one song, they made an entire album called Music Inspired by the Life and Times of Scrooge. The man with the glasses is Don Rosa, who made a graphic novel called The Life and Times of Scrooge McDuck, which is the inspiration for the album. Apparently some of the songs on the album are sung in Scottish Gaelic.

Don Rosa was visiting Finland and in a signing session Tuomas was there and introduced the idea to Don. Don was suspicious if he ever will hear about the guy but gave his contacts. Tuomas pursued the project and Don was really in to it then. He gave Tuomas some of the original scripts (seen on the video) to inspire. After the album was ready and Don Rosa heard it for the first time, he was all in tears of joy.

This is an awesome video but you got many facts wrong. Scrooge was indeed not created for a Christmas Carol but was a character before that, he was created by Carl Barks whom you mentioned in the video. Don Rosa was just a fan boy who made new comics based on Carl Barks's one, one of them was the The Life and Times of Scrooge McDuck which this song is inspired of. DuckTales was also an adaptation of the comics by Carl Barks!

You are wrong with your knowledge about Scrooge. His first apperance was in comic from Carl Barks called Christmas on bear mountain. He was suppose to be one time character, but popularity of him blew Disney out their heads. And Von Drake is totally different character.
