Hector can be reactive and unpredictable at times to other dogs with 'stalking' type behaviour, friendly with some. Lee changed the tools from a halti head collar to a slip collar (dingo). Lee also used a weighted backpack to simulate Hector having a job to do to slow him down.

You guys at Southend dog training are doing an amazing job, I have a dog reactive Dutch shepherd cross Belgium malinois that is 1 and a half, and just from watching your videos on Facebook I have learnt that I have to train myself aswell as training my dog and since realising that, a lot of progress has been made. I can now comfortably walk straight past the majority of dogs without a reaction, it’s took time and a lot of consistency to get to this point. And there is still a lot of work to do but You have helped me and my boy massively therefore I want to say a big thank you and keep doing what your doing👍🏼

Dogs need a leader to lead them every second and when we fail or miss certain situations then they feel they have to take control and make decision themselves which could end badly and creates a bad habit, even knowing this it’s still hard to cover all grounds in situation! I even have my bit I’ve failed but I learn from my mistakes and trying to correct it

The owner needs to stop touching his dog when he is anxious and stressed. I hope he was infiormed about its negative effect on the dog.

I tried a slip collar and it was terrifying. I had no control and she was crazy. She is spayed and over 2 years old. My walks are nerve racking experiences.

You don’t just put a slip lead on and expect it to work you need to do heel work with it with treats

Like all things, train in the house, then at your front door etc. If you are not getting the behaviour you want there, then no need to be scratching your head as to why thi8ngs are not working when outside. Perfect a heel in the house, then slowly slowly increase to outside and more challenging spaces. The issue is generally not the dog, its that we want the dream too early. It takes a long time to build up the right way, but then once you have it. - Best dog in the world . Not like these sad looking dogs that wander with their owners, effectively, "given in" from yanks on the lead. Slow;ly building up over months, we get a dog that walks with us with high drive and enthusiasm. !

@@a.rogatum Thank you for such a supportive and useful response! I will try but she goes from well behaved to crazy in a second when she sees a trigger like a cat or a barking dog!

@@peteinuk Think of it like a distance thing. Your dog is not going mental at a cat fr away. Take control of your environment and get closer each time your dog shows calm. I don't why you are putting your dog into positions where they freak out. If they freak out, you have put them too close, too soon.

putting them in a crate usually helps them establish those type of boundaries and lets them know that the house is somewhere to relax. Also showing them what’s okay to chew on while you’re there might help too. I have and still do hold the bones my dog chews on, sometimes he even “asks” me to.

@@valorielewis2858 … Because he grew out of it and then I built a playpen out of it and when he started jumping out of it I got rid of it completely. Also now when he is a size of a small wolf (19 months old GSD) I believe it wouldn’t be fair on him to be in crate when I’m at work or I leave home as he is just too big to be kept in crate for hours …

Jesus no offence to the owner but i think he should of got something like a labrador completely out of his depth. Nice video though the trainer is a pro

How so? Genuinely curious, only because my first impression was despite having much to learn he was handling him well. Or do you mean as a first dog, a gsd is quite a lot more than a labrador? Which I do agree with haha

@@SoulxSpectre Head collar with a nervy reactive dog isn’t ideal, asks if his dog can meet the other even though his dog is nowhere near ready so doesn’t understand his own dogs body language, castrated him because the vets said so. He seems a really good guy who wants to help his dog which is amazing but yeah i think he got himself too much dog for being inexperienced a gsd can be hard work.

@@b3njys235 fair enough, they are excellent observations and I can agree with them. Yeh he does seem a nice fellow, hopefully he'll be invested in learning and spending time on those deficits. He's certainly found himself some of the best trainers to help.
