And I hated this movie because the book is one of my favorites, the fact they left out Voldemort’s origin story, how and why he created his horrocruxes. The story about Kreacher and Regulus Black :( The love story between Ginny and Harry were more interesting than it happened on the movie. How they skipped the battle at the astronomy tower. Dumbledore's army and the Order of the Phoenix against the Death Eaters, even Hagrid fought. Snape's escape was more poetic and dark and in the movie it was so meeh. Dumbledore's funeral. I WILL NEVER FORGIVE YOU DAVID YATES. I could keep writing on how angry I still am about how they ruined my favorite book.

I remember when these books were being released and I read this passage. I was convinced that it could have been interpreted as "Severus, please...(don't)", or, more likely, he was imploring Snape to go through with it. Every year, he was hyped up to be a villain, with it always being a red herring. Dumbledore is constantly standing up for Snape and his allegiance. It wouldn't have made sense, narratively speaking, if Snape was a simple turn coat. I was happy I was right when Deathly Hollows was released on midnight. I read that all in one sitting.

Snape knew Draco had to do it so he chose to spare him the pain and took out Dumbledore for him. Looks at the color of the spell it’s a different color showing it was done out of love and mercy not malice or hate

it's the same colour and Snape was under unbreakable vow, he had to do it if malfoy couldnt
@jaanfo387418 күн бұрын
In the books it was planned between Snape and Dumbledore. Dumbledore was already dying, Snape was under the unbreakable vow, and they were hoping that since it was a planned death rather than a defeat the Elder Wand would not ally itself with Snape and its power would die with Dumbledore (the real explanation)…. What they didn’t count on was that the Elder Wand didn’t ally itself with the person who killed its last owner, but the person who defeated them in a dual. Since Draco had successfully disarmed Dumbledore he unknowingly became the master of the Elder Wand before Dumbledore died.
@Joeyhill-wj6js16 күн бұрын
He had to do it regardless as Malfoy couldn’t kill you have to mean it for good or bad to truly kill… also dumbledore said that snape must be the one to kill him to get true trust from Voldemort.. films and books are different I know but fuck books

So Snape’s reveal as the HBP tells us three things about the character. 1. He’s an amazing Potions master, which we knew already. 2. He’s of a half-blood lineage. 3. He invented the Sectumsempra spell. Is there more significance to the HPB title in the books that would make this reveal even weightier? I’m failing to see why this is a big deal.
@ethancryder857016 күн бұрын
As far as the plot goes it reveals the significance of shapes character, he’s of so much importance throughout the entire book/film and is driving force for the story. He simultaneously protects Harry from danger and Draco from danger while infiltrating the inner circle of Voldemort and gaining his trust. So the reveal is that it’s really his story this time around
@BrotherBear-ou8jc14 күн бұрын
He chose the name because he is a half-blood wizard and his mother's maiden name was Prince. Therefore he is a half-blood Prince. The real weight of this scenes comes from the fact that when Dumbledore says, "Severus... please" he is actually begging Snape to kill him as they had agreed, in spite of Snape's reluctance.
@poliwhirl616614 күн бұрын
In the book Harry uses the book all year for potions and attempts to figure out the identity of the “Half-blood prince” for most of the book. The reveal therefore has a lot more impact at the end of the book as we realize that this person Harry had been idolizing for an entire school year was Snape, the man he now hated most
@rmar6713 күн бұрын
@@BrotherBear-ou8jc Right. It was not “Please don’t kill me”, but rather “Please remember our agreement”.
@Abel-yq1yd6 күн бұрын
That's the problem with the movie. In the books HBP is like another character with the trio. Harry is obsessed with him and Draco which are the two most pivotal plots of the book which for some reason is sidelined in the movie and the final reveal that Snape was the HBP literally shocks you the first time you read it. The movie absolutely did not do the book justice.
@nuffyj861424 күн бұрын
Am I the only person who didn’t care who the half-blood prince was? The book (and to lesser extent the movie) tried to emphasize that it was a big deal so the reveal would be effective, but…it was a previously owned school book with some regular-ink notes in it…it’s on Harry that he did spells without knowing what they did. 🤷🏼♀️

It was the key part of the book the fuck
@nuffyj861411 күн бұрын
@ Rowling certainly wanted us to think so…but it was a pre-owned book with normal writing in the margins…why be so concerned? Bad previous owner or not…the book’s not doing anything…Hermione was mad he was doing better in class than her; Ron was mad he wasn’t the one to get the book; and Ginny just has a lot of baggage when it comes to magic books (which, let’s be real, this textbook wasn’t one, just a book about magic). It was all blown way out of proportion to make us go “ooh” at the Snape revelation. While reading, I *knew* it was going to come back because of how much attention it got, but I couldn’t understand why I was supposed to be so worried about it except that it was the title of the Harry Potter book.
@alexmaverick66478 күн бұрын
I mean, Snape is arguably the most important character in the story here, and so the title is a way to show his significance while not revealing it until you’ve read it or watched it. The identity of a potions book owner isn’t the point. The significance of Snape in this book (and the next) is the point.
