You want to know what is a good read? The Book "Nothing Lasts Forever" by Roderick Thorpe from 1979. That novel was the the basis for Die Hard. The novel centered on a former Private Investigator named Joe Leland who goes to Los Angels to visit his Daughter at Christmas time. His Daughter Stephanie Gennaro is an Executive at the Klaxxon Oil Company. While attending a Christmas party they are taken hostage by Terrorists including their leader Anton Gruber. The movie was originally going to be a straight adaptation of the book, itself a sequel to 1968 movie (and novel) titled "The Detective" which starred singer Frank Sinatra as Joe Leland. Sinatra was interested in returning for the role but was deemed to old and so it was adapted into the Die Hard we know today.

4:58🤣🤣 I can't with these people. And some were like, "he's smoking around it". C4 requires a special detonator for it to explode. That's what those cylinders with the orange caps on the ends are that John pulled out of the bag. All I can do is laugh to keep from crying.

To clarify for everyone. Yippee ki yay was an old cowboy expression of enthusiasm, kinda like “yeehaw”. It was immortalized in a western style song written by Johnny Mercer and performed by Bing Crosby called “I’m an Old Cowhand (From the Rio Grande)”. You’ve probably heard it before in film or TV, and didn’t realize it. The song is as strongly associated with cowboys and westerns as cowboy boots, broad brimmed hats, and dusty saloons. So when Hans says “Mr. Cowboy”, John MacLaine responds “Yippee ki yay, mutha fuckah!” Because that’s a direct cultural reference. Edit: important to mention that Roy Rogers also performed this song.

What's funny to me is all these people reacting to a movie that is so old they know the line from it as a meme, but entirely miss the fact he was referencing a line from Roy Rogers that was even older, and was a meme in it's own right, before the term Meme had even been coined. It was a touchstone of Americana a generation before I was born that seems strangely forgotten by the Americans themselves...

American here. For anyone confused, "yippee ki-yay" was a term used by real cowboys in the American southwest in the late 19th century. All of Hollywood romanticized it during the mid-20th century when movies called "Westerns" flooded the film industry. This movie actually revived the phrase as it was dying. It was the American Western version of "Let's GO!"

Multiple reactors are like "omg he's smoking around c4" lol. Iirc c4 wouldn't explode with the cigarette, as i believe it would just burn. Pretty sure it needs a det charge to make it go boom, but then again I'm not a demo expert so i may be wrong

Yep, like Stallone, Pacino, Harrison Ford, and Mel Gibson. At this time Willis was nowhere near the household name that he is now. He'd mainly been doing comedic roles. They took a chance on him and it paid off. They even asked Sinatra to come back and play the hero because he played the lead hero in the movie version of the book that comes before the one DH is based on, but he was too old and turned it down.
