One of the most heartbreaking moments of the show. Poor Hodor's mind perpetually locked in the moment of his own death since he was a child.

I think that this time around, it's not the character's death that gets you, it when you realize how Hodor got his name.

And becoming "Hodor" because he was saving his friend's life... and probably experiencing the immense pain of his own future death.
@clonexxАй бұрын
Yes. It’s heartbreaking not only because Bran bridged his past self to his future self which broke him and gave him his name, but also that his past self was witnessing, and likely feeling, his own death in the future. That massive trauma explains why Hodor became the simple, gentle giant he did. His brain couldn’t come to terms with what he experienced, so it sort of walled all of that off and left a small portion in tact. Enough to function, do simple tasks and just be a good protector for Bran.

First of all! This made me appreciate Ned Stark for taking in HODOR and making him one of the family! And most importantly probably the only person he trusted with his kids! Anybody else would have probably treated HODOR like garbage! HODOR sacrificed himself for the Stark Kids! This was one of the most gut wrenching episodes ever! 🙏🏻

The 3 Eyed Raven possessed him. Bran's abilities were not only warging and green sight but the Raven's ability to transcend time. By warging him in the present while in a vision of the past Hodor as a child experienced his own death. And all he could think was the command given by Bran. Hold The Door. Forever imprinted on his brain.

So, I guess in the show they make it less obvious. Bran was doing the Three Eyed Raven thing, visiting Winterfell in the past. When he realized they needed Hodor to, “hold the door” in the present, he warged into past Hodor’s mind, to control present Hodor to keep him at the door so the rest of them had time to escape.
@testodudeАй бұрын
I think he made Hodor / Walder simple minded while was still a boy to be sure he wouldn't move away / get married / wander off from Winterfell before he needed him for this one moment. His terrible purpose. I guess the realm was at stake, so cool.
@NickN568 күн бұрын
Just shows how powerful 3 eyed raven is. He can see past present and future
@r4zoruss3218 сағат бұрын
@@testodude he didnt. he was as suprised as the people that witnessed it in reality. he was in a vision and at the same time he was warging into hodor to knock him out of his panic attack. the girl screaming got transferred into brans vision and because he was warged into hodor the young hodor also heard it. he propably connected with his future self, and his brain that expierienced its own death got damaged and the last command it received before death got imprinted on the part of brain thats responsible for speech. hodor wasnt smart but he undestood what he saw, he saw that he would die a painfull death in a storm by holding the door to save his friend. thats why he panicked everytime a storm came. the actor of hodor himself said that hodor understood whats going to happen and that he wasnt mad at bran for what happenned and wanted to fulfill what he saw to save him.

Not many shows can make you care for a character who is largely irrelevant to the central plot and only utters one word for several seasons.
@drewkrassny7498Ай бұрын
It's been years since the last time I watched GOT but I just realized watching this that as hodor carries Bran around all over the place while he's doing his warg shit he's literally holding the door(Bran) to the truth of the past, present, and future
@testodudeАй бұрын
"he's having a seizure?" No, Bran and the 3 eyed Raven can work outside of time. One of them warged Hodor in the past as a boy, destroying his mind, to set him up for this moment for most of his life. To me, it's unclear if Bran was responsible for the warg, or if he just observed it happening in the past. 3 eyed crow did like to pull strings. If it was Bran that did the warg, it's also unclear if the warg was intentional, but I think it was. I think he made him simple to take his free will away (Old Nan said his name was Walder in the book / Wylis on the show, not Hodor) to be sure he stuck around Winterfell until he needed him for this purpose.
