The book you didn't know existed and absolutely don't care about? Yeah, I read it, so here's my 30 min essay on why you were completely right to not read it in the first place!" This is amazing. About the part where it's often romanticized when guys grab the girl by the arm and either keep them in place or drag them around, I don't really get the appeal either. But what I do know is that actually seeing it rather than seeing it in your head when you read immediately kills any sort of romantic aspect you think it might have. This might be a little tangent but in Korean dramas, this happens A LOT. So much so that you literally can't have a drama without featuring that kind of scene at least once. It's meant to be cute when the guy is slightly frustrated and deciding to take control of the situation or whatever but it comes off as extremely creepy and almost abusive. It doesn't help that the women in the situation are often directed to look wide-eyed and caught off guard, dragging their heels behind them so their love interest inadvertently looks like a serial killer. Lol. Just my two cents on that.
@PunkHime895 жыл бұрын
bloodywonder16238 Eh, I’ve seen discussion go around on the internet allot, but to be completely honest I don’t find it off putting at all. Nor do any of the females I’ve seen dramas with. I mean, yeah you could take it that way, but it’s a really easy grip to get out of if you really want. Maybe it’s a cultural thing? I mean it’s not a turn on, but it’s not a turn off either. It doesn’t come off as creepy or abusive to me, just overconfident? I’ve seen dramas where the female breaks out of the grip (always by just lifting the arm) and it a huge form of rejection. So it feels like it represents some sort of closeness to be able to do that.
@bloodywonder162385 жыл бұрын
@@PunkHime89 Yeah, I do agree with you that it's really a cultural thing and that the women would definitely show more distress had they not been cool with it. It's a trope because people like to see it. The ideas connected behind the trope sometimes feels off to me. Definitely not all cases of this the guy comes off as abusive but it's still an odd dynamic to see it in tandem with the woman looking like she's being dragged. If they guy grabs the woman's hand and they both walk at a similar pace, it reads as her consenting. But when there's a push for the woman to look blindsided and innocent, as though she can't fathom why the man could possibly be doing this, it's a little weird. Well to me anyways. I hope I didn't come off overly sensitive or anything, I'm just looking at this from an analysis standpoint.

bloodywonder16238 I understand, and I do realize that the idea of consent is very integral to the trope. Is it, is it not consent? I really just wanted to show one side of a conversation that seems to always be focused on the other side.

@@PunkHime89 I'm glad you did! There's always two sides to things and discussions like this is why I like to comment. Tbh, I actually didn't mind this trope when I was younger. It's just one scene and I know why people have it in the show. The male protagonist has to look cool and all that. It's only after seeing it some 200 times and the trope got tired for me that I put some thought into it. I've seen quite a fair share of these types of dramas. Now I'm just at a point where it is just weird to me, and maybe a little too hammy. Though I will say I don't mind the gentle guiding guys do when the girl is crying or whatever. Consent is a finicky thing that has no black or white. Well, I mean if the girl says no, it's no but with nonverbal interactions, unless she actually fights back or something, it's very difficult to come to a concrete conclusion. There will always be this bit of doubt. This hand grabbing thing just got more complicated than I thought haha.

bloodywonder16238 Lol, it is complicated! And yeah, I don’t watch dramas all the time since I’m not a huge TV person, so the trope hasn’t bored me yet. YET, lol. It’s like the whole surprise kiss... annoys me so much! Unless they are in a relationship, kissing someone just to make your feelings known is a no go! 🙅🏻♀️It very much fall under consent/no consent, since it all depends on the other persons reaction. But I can see why others would think it romantic, if their experience was positive.

There's really nothing cute about abusive relationships. My dad and mom taught me better than that. LIKE what is Sophie thinking??? Also, it looks like your mother decorated your house from the same place my mother did.

"Rescuing the Bad Boy" is in fact about taming a bad-behaved dog so that it be a good boy. That's why it has a dog on its cover.

@@armin2changs what is what? Lime and lemon? They were used (and are now on the rise again) to tag explicit scenes (lime was mature content and lemon really graphic stuff) as a way to let people know what they were in for. Now that tumblr has banned all sexual content they're used again to cover up anything that would otherwise be deleted by tumblr stuff. I think there was grapefruit too, but can't remember what that was for :)

The draw of "bad boys" is for the older women who still internalize their men's flaws. If she loves him right, he will quit being a self-centered asshole or something. It's actually super tragic, like Colleen Hoover.
