people need to stop viewing dates from the perspective of the events/places themselves. you're going on the date to meet and get to know the other person, if you have ulterior motives like wanting to eat for free at a fancy restaurant because you expect your date will pay, you don't deserve to be taken out on dates. the location should only serve to enhance the connection between the two of you, like an activity you can do together, or maybe help inspire conversations.

I think the problem with the take of “not disregarding someone who has a fundamental value difference (ie children)” is that so many people don’t talk about values with potential partners and then end up knee deep in a relationship with someone they aren’t actually compatible with. Value conversations are important and they are important early on. Cause not everyone, specially women who want children, want to waste time with men or partners that don’t want the same things as them.
@jessicas253
@jessicas253 4 ай бұрын
Amen! I always brought the topic up very early - even while still being young. Life is too short to waste it on people who don't have the same values and goals. And it's much easier for everyone to go separate ways again when you're not too emotionally involved.
@karisfunkartist
@karisfunkartist 4 ай бұрын
Agreed! I think too many people stay in relationships when they have major disagreements in fundamental values or desires and then end up feeling unfulfilled in their relationship and/or resent the other person OR it ends up in divorce/difficult break ups. As someone in my mid 30's, I expect that anyone I date knows 100% if they do or do not want kids (I'm lesbian) and do not want my person to change their mind just because I don't want kids. If it's something that they still desire at this age, I will not be the person who takes that from them, and would rather neither of us waste our time and feelings developing something that will just lead to greater heartbreak or resentment. I think people are often afraid to have these conversations (and stick to their core desires) early on, moreso due to fear of being alone. I'd rather say no to people that I know right away we have a major disagreement on, and spend that time and energy finding someone who matches my goals and desires (and I have, she is wonderful 🥰). I think the fear of "what if voicing my opinion and saying what I really want means this relationship will end?" Territory is dangerous. Because if you're even asking the question, it's likely because you're not compatible in the first place and it probably *should* end.
@CrashSable
@CrashSable 3 ай бұрын
My problem is that children are such a big part of your life that literally anyone who says they've made up their mind one way or the other are a huge red flag. I'd love to have had children by now, but there isn't a single ex that I would trust to raise my child so it's never happened. You should be dating the person, not the child you hope you'll make with them.

Not wanting kids should be a deal breaker for continuing to date. We cannot have people rolling around thinking it’s a not a big deal, let’s just keep dating “you might change your mind”. Why wait until til I’ve fallen in love with someone to let thing I knew was a deal a breaker on day one, break both our hearts on day 1001? If you want to be friends then say that but it’s weird to preteen that every date is an open ended start to a friendship that could be a relationship. Yes you should be friends with your partner but the purpose of dating isn’t just to make friends so if that’s what you want you have to specify. Continuing to date someone with opposite life goals because you might end up friends is kind of cruel.

@liv9194 it CAN happen, but you certainly can't treat anyone saying something like they WILL change their minds or even like they are likely to/should. Way too many women are told (myself included) that they'd change their minds, or partners go into relationships/marriages assuming it would change, just to be shocked when it doesn't. Of course it CAN, but you cannot agree to those terms of the relationship then be shocked when they don't change.

I met my husband online, and everybody even says how wonderful and loving and happy our relationship is. It wasn't a Tinder meetup, it was on some obscure dating site that stopped existing 6 months after we started dating, and there was no trace of the site after another 6 months. It sounds like one of those shops where you buy something super cursed by paid no money for it, and when you go to return it you find out that there was never any shop. But in this case I didn't get something super cursed, I got a husband that loves me so much that when we hug it feels like all my broken pieces fit back together again and when I look into his eyes or hear his voice all the chaos and bad things and stress of the world just melts away and stops existing for a while. My life's been so much better because of him, not because he wants me to be better, but because I want to be better for him and I know he'll always support me on that.

Amanda has the literal worst takes when it comes to anything dating related. From the Smoshcast, to Reddit Stories, to Reddit Stories ON Smoshcast .. anytime there is a story that involves relationships, she takes the trophy for "worst take." Amanda: I've been held at gunpoint twice and have night terrors and PTSD and take self defense classes because of my own insecurities and fears. Also Amanda: JUST SURPRISE YOUR ONLINE DATING APP PARTNER. Don't even ask! Just show up and be spontaneous! Asking if there is anything he can do to make it less scary or more comfortable is LAME and the kind of thing a loser would do!

I love Amanda so much but I could not disagree with her more about the icecream guy being boring! As somebody more into cutesy stuff cottagecore relaxed nature who had bad anxiety growing up and bad experiences with guys this guy being straight forward and recommending something like ice cream. As a 26 year old now that sounds perfect! Its respectful and sincere. But some women prefer "stronger" men who take charge and are direct. Especially someone like Amanda who is tall, outspoken and direct a lot of men would feel threatened or tiptoe around. While the woman would want to feel secure and taken care of. Its less this guy was boring or dating wrong but they simply were just not compatible. Somebody too soft spoken for one person is absolutely perfect in somebody elses eyes. Amanda is clearly speaking from past annoying experiences especially as somebody so proud and direct. While I've been on dates where I felt walked all over. But if their parent started demanding without even asking what it is, I'd do it just to teach the parent a lesson. I kind of agree with Shayne and Amanda on the first Reddit reading on like being chill and not having hard conversations initially. However, I think it's essential to have some hard conversations in the first 9 months to a year because kids, finances, moving in, and other topics are such big topics that if it's a hard no or a hard yes then those are fundamental things that can break or make a relationship. Because if it's something y'all don't foresee changing then it doesn't feel like time is "wasted" or that someone is feeling strung along on hoping.

After a little bit of research, apparently they do that sometimes to prevent others from taking money from it, and it's common when people pass away, but they also don't tend to warn people which is AWFUL. Okay Arasha is hilarious and really thrives in this podcast/open conversational format. So witty and quick and hilarious.

Arasha is such a great addition every time she's on! And i love these subreddits. i think an interesting idea would be exploring more internet content like what websites everyone was on as a kid and whatnot. I need to know who was on girlsgogames and someone explaining the papas series to amanda
